Walking Tall: Leighton Meester Prefers High Heels to Flats

Leighton Meester ShoesJustin Campbell/Startraks

Leighton Meester‘s label-happy on-screen alter ego, Blair Waldorf, is content to pick up the closest pair of Louboutins she can find. Off screen, however, the Gossip Girl star said she searches for shoes “that really speak to me,” regardless of designer name.

“If it’s my daily kind of shoe, I usually go for the same type of style, like a platform with a thick heel,” she explained. “But I think variety is important.”

Speaking to PEOPLE Tuesday night at the Roger Vivier Fall/Couture Showcase to benefit Music Unites in New York, Meester said she actually prefers heels to flats. And when searching for shoes, her top requirement is “definitely not comfort.”

Wearing a J. Mendel dress, Bulgari jewels and Vivier shoes — which she called comfortable — Meester admitted that there is one time of day when you won’t find her in platform heels. “When I’m walking the dog, I wear sneakers,” she revealed, “because they look and feel better.”

Coach Taps Designer Hugo Guinness for New Accessories Collaboration

Hugo Guinness for CoachCourtesy Coach

“I am inspired by what I see around me in the city and in the country,” muses designer Hugo Guinness. “Something overlooked and perhaps unusual to see in a picture, the everyday things of life that we tend to ignore. That’s what appeals to me.” So the designer is taking that inspiration and turning it into something great: a limited-edition collaboration with Coach. Guinness created illustrated bags and handbags, wallets, key rings and small leather goods for the brand, each featuring a whimsical illustration like a New York City coffee cup or a pair of handcuffs. Prices range from $68 to $398, and items will be available on coach.com and at select Coach locations beginning in February.

She may put on the ritz for the red carpet, but when it comes to daytime dressing, Katie Holmes is all about building blocks.

As a guest editor on WhoWhatWear.com, the star highlights her must-haves for fall, including a cropped blazer from her own line, Holmes & Yang. “It has a great fit and goes with my jeans or over an evening dress,” she says. And though the stylish topper has a hefty price tag of $2,125, Holmes insists it’s a worthy investment: “I wear it about four times a week.”

What to Expect on ‘Project Accessory,’ Premiering Tonight

Molly Sims Project AccessoryRichard McLaren/Lifetime

We know the drill: designers receive a crazy challenge, they have less than 24 hours to create an amazing garment, and in the end, someone is in — and the rest are out. But while Project Accessory, premiering Thursday night, borrows some similarities from its big sibling Project Runway, host Molly Sims promises that the two shows are nothing alike.

“It’s a whole lotta something else,” she tells PEOPLE. “On Project Runway, they’re all talented, and making clothes through these difficult challenges, but we put another challenge on top of it. Some of these people have never made some of the things they had to make — shoes, jewelry. They haven’t worked with wire, or metal, or made a stiletto that a girl has to walk down the runway wearing. It’s incredibly challenging.”

The 12 contestants on Project Accessory make three different types of items throughout the competition: handbags, jewelry and shoes. “Sometimes they have to make them at the same time, other times they get to choose,” Sims shares.
