Breast Cancer Survivor Betsey Johnson Creates Pink Products for the Cause

Though Betsey Johnson says she “wouldn’t know a trend if it was kicking me in the face,” this October, she’s helping to set one: creating cute wares to benefit charities during Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The designer has her own line for the cause — goods include socks, a tank, gloves, earrings, a charm bracelet and more — and she recently partnered with Yoplait and Chambord to spread the word, starting with an event at her Soho store on Saturday, where she kicked off BCA month.

A breast cancer survivor herself, Johnson says she knew she wanted to contribute to cancer charities through her design work as soon as she beat the disease. “All I wanted to do was talk about it,” she tells PEOPLE. “[But] I was too scared to talk about it until I was clear of radiation.”

Target’s Next Designer Collaborator: Jason Wu

Jason Wu for Target

On the heels of a successful (and somewhat crazed) Missoni collection launch, Target today announced its next fashionable collaborator: Jason Wu. The designer launched his collection in 2006 and is adored by celebrities — including Michelle Obama and Reese Witherspoon.

“The exciting thing about this limited edition collection of affordable women’s wear and accessories is that it allows me to reach a wider audience and bring my designs to people who may not have been able to purchase them before,” Wu tells WWD. “My collection for Target is chic and wearable. I think women everywhere will enjoy it.”

The collection will launch on Feb. 5, 2012, and will reportedly feature clothes and accessories that are easily convertible from day to evening: sophisticated, feminine dresses, mix-and-match separates and playful accessories.

Kanye West’s Runway Debut: Critics Weigh In

Kanye West ClothingCourtesy Karla Otto, Inc.

Kanye West showed his first-ever collection in Paris Saturday night, as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Lindsay Lohan and Anna Wintour watched eagerly from the front row. Set in the City of Light’s Lycée Henri IV, it was a runway show filled with leather, fur and lots of skin — and the critics weren’t so impressed.

Wall Street Journal style columnist Christina Binkley wrote that the show was at time “painful,” and recalled the Flinstones when referencing one particular breastplate. And though she “liked the perforated black leather” seen on several garments, she didn’t love the way it was used. “A vast quantity of luxury materials can’t blind people to a lack of creative marksmanship,” she wrote.

Eric Wilson from the New York Times agreed somewhat; he wrote, “it was obvious that most of the clothes suffered from a poor fit.” Women’s Wear Daily, on the other hand, was a bit kinder; it called the show “neither triumph nor train wreck” and said “it had the earnest veneer of a beginner, which was sort of endearing.”

The Secret Behind Kate Bosworth’s Effortlessly Chic Style

Sure she’s known for her spot-on fashion choices, but how does Kate Bosworth always manage to look so polished? Just ask her stylist and longtime friend, Cher Coulter.

“She’s got this effortless approach to style, and never overdoes it,” Coulter tells PEOPLE of the actress. “She’s also fun and fashionable and willing to take risks. She’s simple, chic and always looks happy in what she’s wearing.”

Naturally, Bosworth stays up on the latest trends, but surprisingly comfort plays a part in her daily outfit selection, too. “We like to get creative with current trends, but Kate has to feel good and comfortable,” says Coulter, who partnered with the actress to launch JewelMint, a subscription-based site that curates earrings, rings, necklaces and bracelets for shoppers based on their personal preferences. And that’s one reason the jeans queen can always be seen rocking denim.
