Michelle Obama Reveals Her Fashion Motto

Miss Piggy InStyleCarolyn Kaster/AP

First Lady Michelle Obama may be a major fashion plate, but she’s not choosing her daily looks based on labels — it’s all about practicality.

Speaking to reporters Monday during a roundtable at the White House for her Let’s Move! campaign, Obama revealed her personal style motto. “I have to wear what I love,” she said. “I have to feel good in it. My day-to-day wardrobe choices are very practical. I’m like, ‘What’s the temperature?’ ‘Am I going to be sitting in the grass?’ ‘Will I be playing with kids?’ ‘Can I sit on the floor?’”

The First Lady explained that her key concerns are generally about her shirts bunching up or not covering enough of her back, because “if I bend over [I'm] worrying about that … embarrassing shot,” she joked.

And though she chooses her casual clothes — H&M, Gap, Talbots, Target (which she wore Monday, above) with a purpose — naturally, she also shops for what she really likes. “It’s like my music,” she explained. “Everything in my closet is something that I love, so that I can make choices based on what makes sense, knowing that I’m going to love whatever it is. I think that tends to be my philosophy.”

Pour Moi? Miss Piggy Poses in Prabal

If she can’t have Kermie, at least she can have haute couture. Miss Piggy smiles for the camera in a spread in November’s InStyle, wearing custom looks from a myriad of hot designers like Jason Wu, Brian Atwood and Prabal Gurung.

“I didn’t want to dress Miss Piggy in anything that would take away from her bold personality so I went with a simple, classic dress and neutral color,” Gurung tells WWD of his belted white duchesse silk dress. “The Empire waist really complements her figure.”

Piggy agrees. “Simply beautiful, yet deliciously exotic and enticingly romantic. Yes, I’m talking about myself — as well as this fabulous frock designed by my new BFF Prabal Gurung,” she jokes to InStyle.

In the issue, which celebrates her upcoming Muppets movie, out Nov. 23 (she plays a French Vogue editor in the film), Piggy also talks about finding your own sense of fashion. “Style is about expressing your inner self, capturing your personal ethos,” she shares, “and, most importantly, spending someone else’s money.”

He’s been known to steal his daughters’ clothes, but Steven Tyler will probably back away from their closets now that he’s inspired a line of his own. The Aerosmith frontman and American Idol judge is the face and muse of Andrew Charles, a sportswear line with an edge available now at Macy’s stores.

Announced as the face in August, Tyler has been busy shooting ads for the campaign, which costar his daughter Chelsea, who models complementary women’s looks. “I love working with him,” she told PEOPLE last week during a bash for the brand at Macy’s in New York. “It’s so relaxed and we have a lot of fun with it, and I really love so much of this line. I’m happy to be supporting it.”

Amanda Seyfried’s ‘In Time’ Secret: Stunt Heels

Amanda Seyfried In TimeFlynet

In the upcoming thriller In Time, Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried stop aging in their mid-20s — but that doesn’t mean the young actors are determined to stay youthful.

“I’m perfectly fine with aging,” Timberlake told PEOPLE during an event at the SLS hotel in Beverly Hills on Sunday. ”I look back — as a lot of my younger years have been documented — and I can honestly say I would not like to revisit … a couple of outfits that I wore in ’99.”

For Seyfried, playing a perpetual 20-something may have actually aged her. “It was kind of an unhealthy thing to be doing every day for two months,” Seyfried told reporters of spending much of the film running at full speed in high heels.

But Seyfried had a Hollywood secret weapon: stunt heels. “I had many pairs,” she explained. ”They are half the size of the original design.”
