Tom Brady on His Long Hair: ‘I Don’t Take it Too Seriously’

Gone are the days of those questionable ponytails, but Tom Brady‘s hair is still on the long side. However, the New England Patriots quarterback is less focused on his locks lately, now that the football season is in full swing.

“I don’t take it too seriously,” he told WWD of his hair while hosting an Ermenegildo Zegna party at Boston’s Copley Place on Tuesday. “I just like to change it up.” Case in point: he teased a friend, “Look at this guy, same haircut for eight years. There might be some cute girls out there who’d want to see something different.”

Brady has changed his own look over the years: once your typical guy with a short cut, he experimented with a Bieber-esque swoop before growing it longer and eventually sporting the aforementioned ponytail. And while fans had strong opinions on the changing styles, Brady’s wife Gisele Bündchen let it go. “He does what he wants,” she said at the Met Gala in May. “I love him no matter what — short, bald, fat. It’s all good.”

She’s said that dressing up for the red carpet used to freak her out, but actress Carey Mulligan has a distinctive style now — just blame it on her day job. “I was kind of a tomboy and was never massively into fashion,” she tells PEOPLE of her former look. But thanks to walking the carpet for awards shows over the years, the actress has developed a love for putting on fancy frocks.

“We have such a fun time trying things on,” she says of picking out looks with her stylist and close friend Samantha McMillan. “It’s literally whatever I feel comfortable in.”

She does have one fashion rule she refuses to break, however. “I never wear anything above the knee,” she says. “I wore a dress above the knee once and it was to the Met Ball. I just hated it! The dress was amazing but I just can’t do it. I’m pretty conventional.”

Dakota Fanning just celebrated her move from Los Angeles to New York at her first Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, but the star is busy tackling an even bigger milestone now: starting her freshman year at NYU.

“Going to college is a bit different than going back to high school,” the new student told PEOPLE recently at a Marc Jacobs bash. “You can kind of wear whatever you want, and I had a uniform in high school.”

But don’t think you’ll catch Dakota, who’s living in a Manhattan apartment instead of the dorms, taking on sloppy student style. “If you ever catch me in sweatpants in class, that’s not good,” joked the star. “I’ve tried not to dress like that.”

However, the former Angeleno did come prepared for the East Coast temperature changes — sans sweatpants. “I knew to bring a lot of coats, and my Hunter rain boots,” she shared. Still, Fanning admitted that shopping for school is intimidating. For instance, “What pencil case do you buy for college?” she asked.

The Philosophy Behind Zooey Deschanel’s Quirky Style

She’s charmed viewers and critics with her FOX series The New Girl, but long before she hit the small screen, Zooey Deschanel was charming the world with her one-of-a-kind style.

However, the actress says there are a few secrets to pulling off her signature vintage look. “Wear what looks good on you,” she tells Refinery29.com. “Also, fabrics have gotten a lot more comfortable in recent years, so new clothes with vintage cuts are also a great option for practicality.” Not surprisingly, she also names Diane Keaton as one of her style icons.

When she’s not rocking vintage, though, the actress finds herself wearing a few key pieces constantly, including “Band Of Outsiders jackets, Paige jeans and dresses from Modcloth.com. I also love J.Crew for basics.”
