Check Out Rachel Roy and Amar'e Stoudemire's Cute Courtside Clothes
Rachel Roy likes a challenge. So when searching for people to collaborate with on her Macy’s line, Rachel Rachel Roy, she seeks out artists whose skills are different than hers. In the past, she’d teamed with pro surfer Karina Petroni to create shoes, but this year, she found herself drawn to someone a little more … masculine.
Roy tapped basketball star Amar’e Stoudemire to design women’s clothes with her, leading to the recently launched Rachel + Amar’e collection for Macy’s. The line features cute T-shirts, jackets, vests, shorts and more perfect for the girl who likes to hit the court — or take things in from a courtside seat.
“He loves fashion,” Roy tells PEOPLE of her partner in design. “He works so hard at what he does. And when you have a brand in fashion, you have to have a good team and you have to work hard … harder than you’ve ever imagined. And he did that.”
Stoudemire, who tells PEOPLE he was “totally involved” in the process, approving sketches and pitching ideas, also brought his eye for athletic wear to the table. “I don’t know anything about basketball, and I figured lots of girls probably didn’t, either,” Roy says. “So that’s how the collaboration kind of started.”
Available for a limited time, the line features pieces in popular team colors and stylish standouts like a fabric-manipulated jacket with leather sleeves, which Roy “loves.” Find the complete collection for $59-$229 at Macy’s and rachelroy.com.
