The jury is still out on her hosting skills, but one thing is certain: Jane Lynch sparkled onstage at the Emmy Awards Sunday night. The Glee star, tapped to host the awards in June, wore four David Meister creations throughout the evening, complementing her tall, slender frame.
Lynch arrived on the red carpet in a custom strapless evening gown in aubergine chiffon with a ruched bodice. Hitting the stage after her rousing opening number, Lynch appeared in a pewter tissue lame keyhole frock, supported by what she said were “triple Spanx.” Midway through the three-hour show, the hostess changed, opting for a rose jacquard ball gown, complete with crystal beaded pockets. And to cap off the evening, she wore a metallic sage jacquard halter.
In August, Lynch told PEOPLE she’d worked with Meister to create her “nontraditional gowns.” And at the HBO after-party Sunday night, the designer said she was an easy client. “The reason I really love her is that she is so organized,” he told PEOPLE at the Plaza at the Pacific Design Center. “We started working on this nine weeks ago. We had finished our fittings by the end of August and this past week we just did little tweaks. That never happens!”
Meister, who actually created five gowns for Lynch to wear, said he asked the actress to submit a list of “dislikes” before he got to work. “We both, at the beginning, were like, ‘No pantsuit,'” he recalled. “I wanted to keep it simple, yet glamorous and sexy, because everyone expects a pantsuit.”
But beyond that one request, Lynch let Meister work his magic. “She was so cool to work with,” he shared. “Very laid-back and very funny and very open.” Tell us: What did you think of Lynch’s Emmy outfits?
