Call it blonde ambition: both Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron recently lightened their locks for their new film, The Paperboy.

Kidman appeared on the New Orleans set this week with shockingly bright blonde hair (perhaps a wig?), a big change from her recent reddish hue. The actress vamped up the look on Wednesday with lots of makeup, wearing a half-buttoned blouse, tiny denim shorts and sky-high heels.

Efron, normally a brunet, appears to have added some subtle golden highlights to his flowing hair, giving him a sun-kissed look that matches his rugged tan.

French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier has dressed some of Hollywood’s most fashionable faces, and more recently, the stars’ stylish kids through the launch of his children’s line.

But now, the designer is dabbling into the world of underthings with a provocative lingerie collection created for La Perla. The partnership between the two “was bound to happen,” Gaultier tells Wedding Style Magazine of his collaboration with the Italian lingerie house. “Lingerie is part of my DNA: I have always used it in my collections. With La Perla, I have found a perfect partner.”

The pieces — from Madonna-inspired pointed cup bras to curve-hugging slips — were created to make a powerful statement for women. “I would like to give women freedom to be who they are,” he says. “I personally think women are the stronger sex; that they are more intelligent and much stronger than us men, and I always wanted to show a strong woman who seduces because she wants to.”

Her hair was the topic of much debate during the 2008 presidential campaign, and now, the salon responsible for Sarah Palin’s signature styles is the subject of a new TLC reality show, Big Hair Alaska. Premiering this fall, the two-part special on the Beehive Beauty Shop “goes inside a busy hair salon in Wasilla, AK, where the personalities of the owner and her staff are as big as the hairstyles they create,” according to TLC.

The 1,400-sq.-ft., bright pink salon was featured in a 2008 profile in the New York Times, which delved into Palin’s hairstyle evolution. “She’s very involved in her look and how she’s perceived,” Beehive owner Jessica J. Steele told the paper. “We would talk a lot about how if she looked too pretty or too sexy, people wouldn’t listen to her. How important it was for people to see her as an intelligent, smart woman. It was comical when her hair was down, how big a difference that would make, especially when she was running for governor.”

For her first foray world of music video direction with Best Coast, one of her favorite bands, Drew Barrymore had one singular vision: “How do we make the most killer video?”

Drawing her inspiration from movies — “I love The Outsiders, The Warriors and West Side Story,” she shares — Barrymore confesses to PEOPLE that her preparations for a the video were exhaustive. “Ugh. I’m Tracy Flick to the nines,” she admits, referring to Reese Witherspoon’s iconic Type-A nerd in Election.

Not so nerdy? Her cast. Barrymore, a veteran child actor herself, assembled a veritable who’s who of up and comers including Kick-Ass‘s Chloe Moretz, Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Posey, Community‘s Donald Glover, The Secret Life of the American Teenager‘s Shailene Woodley and Alia Shawkat, the “muse” from her feature directorial debut, Whip It. She included Miranda Cosgrove as well, hoping to make a departure from the actress’s sweet iCarly look. “I really wanted to change up her look — the makeup, the clothing and the attitude,” Barrymore says. “She was willing to play.”

It’s been an exciting year for the Duchess of Cambridge: a royal wedding, a North American Tour and now, a spot on Vanity Fair‘s International Best-Dressed List. Her first appearance on the list came in 2008, and a whirlwind of fashion successes since has earned her this illustrious second nod. Kate has gained worldwide recognition for her signature mix of high and low fashion, recycling looks, wearing accessible labels and dressing down for daily tasks. Though she also knows how to make a glamorous entrance — a skill that will serve her well as a member of the royal family.

Some other highlights of the annual list include President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama, named together as a well-dressed couple; expectant French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy; and newly married Princess Charlene of Monaco. From Hollywood’s royal ranks come actors Justin Timberlake, Colin Firth and Carey Mulligan, plus musicians like Lady Gaga and Janelle Monáe.
