Cheryl Burke Gives Her Assistant a Makeover on ‘What Not to Wear’

Cheryl Burke knows how to dance. And after spending years in the spotlight, she knows what to wear — or so she thought. It turns out even a seasoned pro could use a tip or two sometimes, and so could her assistant.

Burke and pal Jenny McCarthy surprised their assistant Becky with a makeover from Stacy London and Clinton Kelly on the long-running TLC series, What Not to Wear. “I fooled her,” Burke tells PEOPLE. “Becky thought she was coming with me to shoot a dance campaign. We got to New York, we’re shooting the ‘campaign,’ the cameras turn to her and Stacy and Clinton come out. She’s crying, bawling her eyes out, because she’s such a huge fan of the show.”

Beyoncé’s Surprisingly Simple Style Essentials

She may be running the world, but even Beyoncé relies on some beauty basics to keep her looking gorgeous around the clock.

“I really do try my best to take care of my skin,” she tells InStyle. “Like most women, I sometimes forget to wash the makeup off before going to sleep, but you pay for that mistake.” To fix that occasional faux pas? “I drink a lot of water and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize,” she says.

When it comes to styling her curls, the singer is all about simplicity. “My favorite is still a high ponytail,” she says. “It’s clean and classic.” Though that’s not to say she hasn’t experimented with other dos, too. “I’m not going to tell you the numerous hairstyles I’ll never try again because I know you will look up the photos,” she jokes.

However, it might be more surprising to hear that the fashionista has an affinity for the most basic of clothing items: T-shirts. “I can never have enough,” she admits, adding, “My favorite is a simple white tee.” There is one not-so-plain item she’s rarely seen without, though — her sky-high heels — but Beyoncé says that at the end of every day, her weary feet catch a break. She shares, “When I get home, the first thing I do is take off my stilettos!”

DEAL OF THE DAY: 25% Off of Moni Moni Handbags

Discount on designer handbags

It’s no coincidence that stars like Halle Berry, Ashlee Simpson and Jennifer Love Hewitt love Moni Moni’s classy, stylish bags — the leather is pure luxury but the style is all downtown-L.A. chic. And the mix of the two styles comes naturally to designer Cinzia Moniaci, who was raised in Italy but now lives in Southern California. Her style philosophy is that a great bag must fit the three Cs: “capacity, comfort and chic factor,” and that’s evident in all of her supple, soft and studded designs.

In unexpected colors or with thoughtful, stylish details, the bags are fun enough to spice up your wardrobe but classic enough to wear throughout the seasons. Start shopping with a discount (making this sexy satchel $372) by clicking here.

Would You Try Dramatic Winged Eyeliner Like Katharine McPhee?

Katharine McPhee Eyeliner
Johns PKI/Splash News Online

My, what big eyes you have, Katharine McPhee! The smoldering Smash star made a bold beauty statement on the red carpet in New York City last week, sporting exaggerated winged eyeliner at a party celebrating the grand opening of the New Balance Experience store. The dramatic look, complemented by minimal makeup and a simple bun, really made her eyes pop.

McPhee is one of several leading ladies to work the look lately: Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba and Olivia Wilde have all tried the cat-eye look, and that extra bit of black liner is practically Lauren Conrad‘s trademark beauty move.

But tell us: What do you think of the winged eyeliner look? Would you try it for a night out? Or do you prefer to keep your eyeliner on, well, your eyelids?

Is Lady Gaga Going Ladylike?

Gone are the green highlights, the sheer dresses, the face masks and the leather … is Lady Gaga growing up? The singing star stepped out several times over the weekend looking polished and — dare we say — demure!

Friday, Gaga wore a black one-shoulder cocktail dress from Versace’s fall/winter 2011 collection, her hair brushed and blonde, her heels plain black. Saturday, she left a recording studio toting a black Versace clutch and donning a sheer, yet tasteful, one-shoulder black chiffon evening gown. Then Sunday, Gaga impressed again, this time in a yellow snakeskin print cocktail dress, also from the fall/winter 2011 collection, belted and paired with Christian Louboutin heels.

In June, Gaga declared she’d be wearing strictly Versace for two solid months. Though she’s deviated from that promise, wearing Ferragamo and Yves Saint Laurent, too, perhaps she’s finding her way with the Italian fashion house? Or maybe that best-dressed title is causing her to make a fashion flip-flop. Regardless, we want to know: What do you think of Gaga’s new look?

Tyra Banks: I’ve Seen Kim Kardashian’s Wedding Dress

Kim Kardashian might be “very calm” in the final days before her wedding, but she has her celebrity friends to thank for that. After the bride-to-be chatted and posed with model pal Tyra Banks on Sunday at the 2011 Do Something Awards in Los Angeles, Banks revealed to PEOPLE that she offered Kardashian some guidance on wedding dress choices.

“I gave [Kim] the advice of going with a silhouette that the world isn’t used to seeing her in,” Banks said, “So we’ll see.” As for exactly how Kardashian is going to look in her Vera Wang gown on her wedding day, it seems she and her close pals already have a pretty good idea based on photos from some elaborate fittings. “What she showed me was so beautiful,” Banks, who wore a color-block jumpsuit by her seamstress Claudia Díaz, told PEOPLE. “It’s interesting because they were pictures from a fitting, but it actually looked like the wedding, like her hair was done. So it was like a real almost dress rehearsal and she looked absolutely beautiful.”

Jessica Alba’s Dirty Little Style Secret? She Hates Fittings!

Jessica Alba Maternity Secrets
Giulio Marcocchi/Sipa

For most women, the idea of having a professional stylist is a dream come true; for Jessica Alba, it’s just a part of the gig.

“Trying on clothes — it’s just not super fun for me,” she admitted to PEOPLE recently during a fitting with stylist Brad Goreski. “I can’t think of anything I would rather not be doing. I’d rather get spa treatments. Get my nails done and go to lunch with my girlfriends.”

So when it comes to finding that perfect red-carpet look, Alba employs shortcuts. “I know what will work even before I try something on,” she said. Goreski concurred: “She doesn’t change her mind … Once you set something with her she knows it and it stays that way.”
