Emma Stone: Confidence Is the Key to Beauty

Emma Stone on Inner Beauty
Dale Robinette/DreamWorks

Emma Stone looks totally gorgeous when she’s ruling the red carpet, but playing determined writer Skeeter Phelan in The Help gave the actress a new perspective on the importance of inner beauty.

In an exclusive interview with YouBeauty.com, Stone explains her character’s evolution. “I think at the beginning, understandably, she is deeply affected by her appearance and her mother’s disapproval of it,” she says. But she “was lucky enough to have [her maid] Constantine, who reminded her that she was beautiful and smart and could choose her life.”

Skeeter’s plight is a familiar one, according to The Help‘s hair department head, Camille Friend. “So many of us grow up and say our hair’s too curly or too straight. We’re constantly told in our lives we’re not good enough based on our hair … Skeeter’s the same girl,” she says.

No, Jane Lynch won’t be wearing formal versions of Sue Sylvester’s tracksuits when she hosts the Emmys next month, but she is willing to try some unconventional couture during her stint onstage.

“I think I’m going to have a couple changes,” Lynch told PEOPLE of plans for a variety of looks as she emcees TV’s biggest night. “David Meister’s designing them — I might be wearing a tux, but he has some great ideas for nontraditional gowns.”

However, the Glee star — who’s also a nominee as outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series — definitely won’t be dabbling in the design plans. “One of the things that I’ve learned is I don’t go into areas that I know nothing about,” she laughed. “I have a great producer, I have great writers and a terrific designer. I’m just sitting back and marveling at their talent.”

Sarah Silverman’s Style: Comfort Comes First

Sarah Silverman may know more about punchlines than prêt-a-porter, but that doesn’t mean she’s not a fan.

“I’m not a fashion-y person, but I do love looking,” she told PEOPLE at the 10th annual InStyle summer soiree. “I love looking at pictures of beautiful things.”

Rocking a high-low ensemble comprised of TopShop shorts and Chloé booties, the comedienne expounded on the rules that govern her eccentric look. “I like comfort,” she said. “If I can find something that looks nice that’s comfortable, that’s definitely how I go.”

A reasonable price tag is also an attractor. “I’m not into labels and stuff,” she said, before admitting that her brand of frugality is hereditary. “I’m like my dad, you know … He always says, ‘My Timex works just as good as your Rolex … and it can go under water’.

What do teenagers love? According to 14-year-old Lourdes Leon, it’s fresh and fruity scents, dramatic nail polish colors and of course, pretty party dresses.

The budding designer, who oversees Macy’s Material Girl line with mom Madonna, recently unveiled the latest offerings for the brand, including more denim, party dresses, outerwear, lingerie and makeup.

“I really like the vanilla body lotion,” she told PEOPLE while experimenting with some of the beauty buys. “It smells really good, fresh, like you just rubbed vanilla essence all over you … which is good!”

Another favorite? Labyrinth nail enamel. “I think it’s cool,” she said of the sheer, sparkly polish she was sporting that day. “You can wear it to school without it being overly bright, which is nice.”

Lauren Conrad Designing ‘Investment Pieces’ with Paper Crown

Lauren Conrad Paper Crown

Fashionistas dying for a taste of Lauren Conrad‘s newest clothing venture, Paper Crown, are in luck: it’s in stores, including Nordstrom and Planet Blue, as of late July. The collection is full of signature Conrad styles like girlie dresses, tailored shorts and jackets, and no one is more excited about it than the designer herself.

“I’m having so much fun with it,” she told PEOPLE at a recent Alice + Olivia bash in West Hollywood when asked about the line and her lower-priced collection for Kohl’s, LC Lauren Conrad. “We wanted to do something that’s just really well fitting, staples that you can build around.”

The holiday collection is up next, which Conrad said was designed with certain occasions, like holiday parties, in mind, and pieces will continue to be in the $140-$300 range. “I consider them investment pieces,” she said. “We wanted them to be very classic feeling but still special.” Tell us: Have you shopped Paper Crown?

When stylists Emily Current and Meritt Elliott came together with Kate Spade New York for the launch of their collaborative accessories collection, Westward, they knew they had the perfect launch party hostess in pal Emma Roberts.

So the actress, a client of Current and Elliott’s since age 14, joined Kate Spade New York’s Creative Director, Deborah Lloyd, at Hollywood’s Petit Ermitage hotel recently to toast the unveiling of the designers’ satchels, clutches, duffles and wallet.

“I think Emily and Merritt have such great style,” Roberts told PEOPLE at the bash. “They’re on the same page but also have such great tastes that they do bring different things to the table. I love that they mix expensive with inexpensive and vintage with new; that’s such an art that I definitely don’t know how to do.”

Roberts, joined by rumored boyfriend Chord Overstreet, was supported by other style-savvy celebs including Jaime King, Michelle Trachtenberg, Gia Coppola, Sasha Spielberg, Zelda Williams and Ali Landry for the cocktail party and sit-down dinner, where guests gushed over the soft leather and suede bags.
