Abercrombie & Fitch to The Situation: We’ll Pay You to Stop Wearing Our Clothes

Jersey Shore is a mega-hit for MTV, but some brands aren’t quite as amused by the crazy antics of the show’s fist-pumping, drink-guzzling cast. Tuesday night, retailer Abercrombie & Fitch posted a statement to its website proposing what it called a “win-win situation” to Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino: stop wearing our clothes and we’ll give you some cash.

“We are deeply concerned that Mr. Sorrentino’s association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image,” a representative from A&F’s brand senses department wrote. “We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans. We have therefore offered a substantial payment to Michael ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino and the producers of MTV’s The Jersey Shore to have the character wear an alternate brand. We have also extended this offer to other members of the cast, and are urgently waiting a response.”

In July of 2010, Sorrentino spoke to New York magazine about his booming popularity — and ironically, the products that were taking off thanks to his name. “‘The Situation’ — my name, or my character — is known worldwide now,” he boasted. “Abercrombie & Fitch, their most popular shirt, they told me, is ‘Fitchuation.’ I mean, where did they get that from? Obviously from myself.” Tell us: Do you side with Abercrombie, or with The Situation?

A & F is worried about their image? Interesting statement from a company that targets teens with ads that have been dubbed as soft porn.

How come New Jersey never gets any respect? Why do they make shows like that? At least I am glad to say that I have never once watched even five seconds of it.

I find it ironic that A&F is all of a sudden trying to play the conservative card. For years the advertising for their brand has been extremely racy and considered by some to be borderline soft-core porn for having young teenage models in nothing but their underwear. Which again is ironic since their are trying to advertise clothing…with models who are wearing very little clothing. I’m personally not a fan of either A&F nor Jersey Shore, I just find it silly that A&F of all brands would be doing this.

Honestly, who WOULD want to be associated with the cast from the program? I am from New Jersey and have lived in Sweden for decades, and when I watched the show I was baffled to see such ridiculous waste of space nobodies that supposedly were from NJ.The show is a joke, and so is the cast. Even Walmart should be next in line to protect their brand….

i think the situation is an embarrassment to human kind..a&f may already be discriminating but they have reasons to ban the situation…it boasted like a&f has sooo much to thank him….

I am not a huge fan of “The Situation”, but I think this is extremely rude of A&F. If you are going to pick and choose who can and can’t wear your clothes, you shouldn’t be making clothes! People should be free to buy and wear whatever they want. This makes A&F comes off extremely stuck up and personally, I don’t think they have anything to be stuck up about. Their clothes are extremely cheap and all look the same. I hope they loose a lot of business from this.

This is funny. I side with A&F. The cast is ridiculous. I disturbs me that people actually watch that !@*#.

I will pay People to stop reporting on The Situation

That is crazy…its ok that they sell thong panties for little girls…but they don’t want Jersey Shore wearing their clothes…seriously.

I think Aeropostale should pay Gary from Teen Mom to stop wearing their clothes. Waaay worse than the Fitchuation.
