Abercrombie & Fitch to The Situation: We'll Pay You to Stop Wearing Our Clothes

Jersey Shore is a mega-hit for MTV, but some brands aren’t quite as amused by the crazy antics of the show’s fist-pumping, drink-guzzling cast. Tuesday night, retailer Abercrombie & Fitch posted a statement to its website proposing what it called a “win-win situation” to Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino: stop wearing our clothes and we’ll give you some cash.

“We are deeply concerned that Mr. Sorrentino’s association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image,” a representative from A&F’s brand senses department wrote. “We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans. We have therefore offered a substantial payment to Michael ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino and the producers of MTV’s The Jersey Shore to have the character wear an alternate brand. We have also extended this offer to other members of the cast, and are urgently waiting a response.”

In July of 2010, Sorrentino spoke to New York magazine about his booming popularity — and ironically, the products that were taking off thanks to his name. “‘The Situation’ — my name, or my character — is known worldwide now,” he boasted. “Abercrombie & Fitch, their most popular shirt, they told me, is ‘Fitchuation.’ I mean, where did they get that from? Obviously from myself.” Tell us: Do you side with Abercrombie, or with The Situation?

I would be embarassed if a brand publically said they didn’t want me to wear the brand because of the way I acted. Which is true in the Jersey Shore cast..they are such a sad joke.

“Everybody knows him or his character”? Really? I never heard of him before today because I hate reality shows!!! I think A&F should take a good look at who really wears their clothes. I hate their stores also. Creepy, cavelike and everything always wrinkled.

I agree with Natalie’s comment about the oversexualized image that AF promotes. The store probably sells most of their clothes to teenagers but the image they promote is not acceptable. As a Mom I wouldn’t allow my child to wear anything that “the Situation” or his cast mates wear/have worn. But unfortunately, in an age of reality stardom, once their 15 minutes is up, there will just be another group to lower everybody’s IQ!

I think the human race should pay him to not be one of us anymore. He – and MTV – are making humans look bad.

Oh, and MTV – Aren’t you MUSIC Television? Bring back the music, Christ. Sadly, I’m old enough to remember when MTV actually had music on it.

He may be garbage but so is Abercrombie and Fitch-the way they sexualize their catalog and young models. AF is garbage to me-the quality, style and price!

If they didn’t want to call attentio nto the association, the wouldn’t post a PRESS RELEASE ON THEIR SITE about it. An easy, no-cost publicity grab by A&F. I bet they don’t end up paying him anything, because they already got what they wanted out of this ploy.
