Kim Kardashian’s Friends Weigh In on Her ‘Beyond Gorgeous’ Wedding Look

When asked about her upcoming wedding to Kris Humphries, Kim Kardashian said she’s trying to keep it “as private as we can.” But her friends are so excited for the reality star’s big day that they can’t help but share a few small details. Longtime pal Brittny Gastineau spoke to PEOPLE recently at the Noon by Noor launch event in West Hollywood, and said she expects her friend to look like “a princess” on her big day. “Kim is so beautiful, so anything will look great,” she said, adding that she’s seen a sketch of the infamous wedding gown. “It’s gorgeous. Beyond [gorgeous]. She’s going to be amazing.” Publicist friend Jonathan Cheban agreed. “I think we’re going for over the top,” he said of her look. “If they’re going to film [the wedding], the world is going to want to see something really exciting. It’s Kim. She’s not a movie star, she’s not a pop star, she’s a reality star that everyone’s obsessed with and everyone wants to see.” Calling the bride-to-be “cool as a cucumber,” Cheban said she’s prepared to give her fans what they want. “To not give people a huge [ceremony] for them to awe over would be almost bad. It wouldn’t be nice,” he explained. “I think people are expecting it. I think if it were a little elopement ceremony people would be very disappointed.” From the sounds of it, the big day will be anything but. “I’m so excited,” Gastineau gushed. “It’s literally like the royal wedding.” –Reporting by Vanessa Diaz

Eva Mendes is envied by women everywhere for her glowing skin, coveted curves and silky hair. But behind every beautiful woman is an essential set of beauty tools, and the Thierry Mugler muse says she counts on some tried-and-true favorites to give her an all-over glow. First up? Blush. “I like … cream-based products and NARS does really fun blush and bronzer,” Mendes tells Style.com. “I like to mix those.” And while she may be drawing attention to the apples of her cheeks, she’s trying to draw attention away from other areas. “Dark circles are hereditary in my family, which can be useful when doing a role when I’m supposed to be tired and depressed,” she jokes. “But in my everyday life, I try to minimize that” by using Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer, she says. To keep her skin clear and healthy, Mendes swipes on Dr. Hauschka facial toner, because “it’s so clean and so simple,” she shares. “It’s not drying in any way.” For nails, she counts on Essie polish in ‘Mucho Dinero.’ “It’s so elegant,” she says, laughing at the name. “What about this says mucho dinero?” Luckily, she doesn’t have to spend mucho dinero on her shampoo and conditioner, both from the Pantene Pro-V Medium-Thick Solutions line (she’s a spoksemodel for the company). “It’s classic and you can get it anywhere in the world,” she says of the brand. “I tried to cheat and go more expensive, but I came running back with my tail between my legs.” Tell us: What are your beauty must-haves? –Kim Peiffer, with Justine Harman

Vanessa Minnillo’s ‘Very Emotional’ Wedding Dress Decision

When Vanessa Minnillo ventured out for that wedding dress shopping trip every girl dreams of, it didn’t go as expected. Minnillo, whose birth mother hasn’t been in her life for more than 20 years, struggled with not having her mom there with her on that special day. “Normally this is something you do with your mother, and my birth mother hasn’t been in my life since I was 9,” she explains emotionally to PEOPLE. “I have been okay with that up until now but for some unexplained reason, it really overtook me. I felt lost, confused and sad. It was very emotional.” With her matron of honor, friend Jennifer Birmingham-Lee, by her side, Minnillo worked with Monique Lhuillier to try and find the perfect dress. “This was the hardest decision in the whole wedding planning … probably because I didn’t have the support of Nick [Lachey],” Minnillo says. “We decided everything together, even his [Dolce & Gabbana] tux. For the first time, I felt a little bit alone.” To gain some clarity, the bride-to-be decided to ask for her groom’s opinion. “I said, ‘What do you want to see me in when you marry me and I become Mrs. Lachey?’” she recalls. And much to Minnillo’s surprise, Lachey didn’t give a generic male response and instead, was eager to say, “Something traditional with a little modern flair.” So following their chat, Minnillo headed back to Lhuillier’s Los Angeles boutique … and the rest is history. “Literally the next day I went to Monique and tried on my three dresses for the zillionth time. As soon as I put it on, I knew this was it.” –Jennifer Garcia

Leighton Meester Appreciates a Good Sample Sale

Her Gossip Girl character Blair Waldorf is often spotted in pricey designer dresses — hello, Jenny Packham — but Leighton Meester says she prefers to save a few bucks when she shops. “The last time I popped out my credit card I bought [a] Proenza Schouler dress,” she tells PEOPLE, adding that she picked up a few others that same day during a sample sale for the brand. “I love sample sales! Proenza always has the good ones, and is one of my favorite designers. Most of the Proenzas in my closet are from sample sales.” Not one to splurge too much, she’s also a do-it-yourself type, currently redecorating her own home. “I’m buying tons of magazines, too, like Elle Decor, and I’m addicted to them now,” she admits. “Even though one day I will be done decorating, I’m still going to be buying them because I love looking at them.” Tell us: Are you a sample sale shopper? –Reporting by Paul Chi

Hailee Steinfeld’s Miu Miu Deal ‘Feels Appropriate’

Hailee Steinfeld proved she was confident with her place in the fashion world when she inked a deal as the new face of Miu Miu, and though she’s only 14 years old, the actress, who has been known to wear a slew of top designers on the red carpet, says her work with the brand suits her (and the Miu Miu audience) quite well. “Honestly I think the best part about this collection and the campaign is the fact that it’s so sophisticated — it’s timeless,” she recently told Fashionista.com. “And I think for younger girls like me it works. It feels appropriate.” And as for how she felt about transitioning from actress to model for the campaign? It was a breeze for the True Grit star! “It’s kind of funny because when I was younger I did a lot of print and then I went more into acting so I had a little déjà vu when I went back to it, doing the whole modeling thing again,” she said. “I had such an amazing time filming, especially working with Bruce Weber.” Steinfeld joins a crop of young new stars who are also lending their fashionable faces to designer campaigns, like 13-year-old Elle Fanning, who was recently announced as the new face of Marc by Marc Jacobs. –Kim Peiffer
