Zuhair Murad: Miley Cyrus Defined My Career

Looks like Miley finally got the memo! While not always synonymous with career-defining style, Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad credits the star with catapulting him to the big leagues. “We got many calls, many e-mails, some of them just for congratulations and some of them for orders,” he tells nymag.com of the elaborate gown Cyrus wore to the 2009 Academy Awards. “It’s a very special art,” he says of his handmade creations, designed for “women who love fashion” and buy pieces “to be special, to be different.” And though A-listers flock to his capricious designs, including Jennifer Lopez, who wore his sequin-dusted gown to last year’s Met Gala (“People were crying,” he insists), Murad is forever grateful to his first high-profile fan. “Many, many, many celebrities at the same time start wearing my clothes,” he explains. “But the biggest occasion, the first one, was Miley Cyrus at the Oscars.” –Justine Harman

Kellan Lutz Works Justin Timberlake’s Old Do

Looks like Kellan Lutz is curling more than just his biceps. The hunky Twilight star appears to be bringing back Justin Timberlake‘s sexy curls — and we like it. At a recent event in the Hamptons, Lutz showed off a luscious do reminiscent of the curly look Timberlake sported when he was still singing with ‘NSYNC. Since he’s normally the type to go straight or spiky, it’s a big change for the actor — but not necessarily a bad one. It might even be his hair’s natural state! Tell us: What do you think of Lutz’s new look? Caroline Slutsky

Whitney Port’s Pre-Party Primping Routine: Push-Ups!

Whitney Port Does Push-Ups
Michael Simon/Startraks

Many Hollywood actresses spend hours in the makeup chair, getting themselves primped and prettied when they are headed for a night out on the town. But not Whitney Port! She hits the floor for some muscle-pumping moves instead. “Push-ups get me pumped,” Port told PEOPLE at the debut of Superdry USA’s South Street Seaport store on July 13. “I’ll do them before we go out at night.” After all, it’s all about fitting in fitness whenever you can, especially for a world traveler. Port, who recently got back to the United States after spending some time in London and Dublin, says she’s “hardly exercising” when she travels, “which is not so great.” So she compensates by squeezing a little exercise into her daily schedule, even if it’s while she “listen[s] to music and [has] a drink” before hitting the bar or club. Her friends have even come to accept her unusual nighttime routine. “Before it was like, ‘No, please don’t do that,’” laughs Port. “And now it’s just like, ‘Okay, go for it!’” Tell us: What do you think of Port’s pre-party fitness regime? –Hannah Kay Hunt

Lady Gaga’s New Job: Philip Treacy’s Hat-Making Intern?

Lady Gaga interns with Phillip TreacyWeirPhotos/Splash News Online; Inset: Startraks

Milliner Philip Treacy has received much buzz for his one-of-a-kind fascinators, especially those worn at the royal wedding. And now he’s reportedly sharing his sacred hat-making skills with one of his biggest clients: Lady Gaga! Treacy tells the U.K.’s Observer that Gaga, already a fan of his work, is ready to be his next apprentice. “She plans to,” Treacy reveals of her intent to intern with him. “She’s already visited me.” After requesting to work with the designer last spring, it appears that the collaboration is finally beginning. “This is what happened: one Monday morning, four burly bodyguards arrived — Lady Gaga’s security team — to check out the security of the building,” Treacy explains. “I looked at them as if to say, ‘What?! Who is going to take a pot shot at Lady Gaga?’ Anyway, she is young, talented and peculiar — which I like.” Given that Treacy’s hats are sometimes controversial — namely the love-it-or-hate-it headpiece worn by Princess Beatrice in April, which netted $130,000 for charity at auction — it seems only fitting that Gaga would be interested in his creation process. “A person carries off the hat,” Treacy says. “Hats are about emotion. It is all about how it makes you feel. I like hats that make the heart beat faster.” Tell us: What do you think of Lady Gaga interning for Treacy? –Kim Peiffer

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Behind the Scenes with Dakota Fanning for Oh, Lola

Though her Lolita-esque ad set tongues wagging, in a behind-the-scenes video for Dakota Fanning‘s Oh, Lola fragrance campaign, the spritely starlet looks every bit the bubbly teen. Handpicked by designer Marc Jacobs to front the fragrance, a spin-off of his wildly popular Lola scent, Fanning shot the ad in Los Angeles in February — a process seen in the exclusive clip above. “I’ve been a big fan of Dakota since the first time I saw her in a movie,” Jacobs told WWD last month. “I knew she could be this contemporary Lolita, seductive yet sweet.” Oh, Lola, available exclusively at Bloomingdale’s stores through July, features notes of raspberry, peony and vanilla, with scents like pear and magnolia mixed in. Bottles of the fragrance start at $48; Fanning’s ads will hit magazines next month.
