Mary-Kate, Ashley Olsen Give Needy Children Some Functional New Footwear

The Row for TOMSDarren Yokota

Talk about happy feet! Children in Honduras were recently treated to one-on-one shoe fittings with designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who visited the Central American country to deliver footwear on behalf of TOMS. The actresses partnered with the charitable brand to create a limited-edition line of shoes through their label The Row; in celebration of the collaboration, they brought brand new pairs of TOMS’s everyday walking shoes to needy kids from three different communities outside the city of Tegucigalpa. The sisters were joined by a group of volunteers, and when they weren’t fitting feet, they visited classrooms and played soccer with the locals. “Having the opportunity to be a part of something so meaningful has made the collaboration with TOMS special to everyone at The Row,” Mary-Kate told WWD earlier this year. The TOMS + The Row shoes themselves, available in gray, black and plaid for $140-$150, are made of Italian wool and cashmere blends with lamb leather lining and black suede insoles. And just like TOMS’s everyday shoes, proceeds from sales of these cozy classics will benefit the greater good: for every pair of TOMS + The Row shoes sold, a child in need will receive a new pair of shoes. –Kate Hogan

Love them!

Good for them! It is glad to hear of something good that these two girls have done. I don’t think they have had the easiest life, so finally being able to grow up a little bit and share their blessings & talents with others in need is pretty cool.

For once, just once can one of the wealthy do something, adopt, help children in our own country that need it!

Don’t get me wrong what they are doing is wonderful but I’m just saying,we have kids here that need it too.

I love to read articles like this.
The Olsen twins are making a difference and putting smiles on the children faces. This is so wonderful!!! I wish all rich people would reach out to others. I am not rich, but I am always giving to others less fortunate than myself. I wish more movies stars and rich people would give to the poor instead of being selfish. Thank you Olsen twins!!!!
What a kind and loving heart you have.
God bless you.

While it is really nice to see that these girls realize the world des not revovle around them, I don’t think I can remember them ever doing anything for anyone else before. (If anyone can refute that- I’d listen) What are they trying to do, kep their image up? The have to have plenty of money. I am kind of shocked, I mean all the other times they hit the news, it is for something vapid and “socialite-y” (if that is even a word?)

This is awesome :-)

Kudos to the the Olsen women. As a side not -their pics are the best pictures I have EVER seen of them – they look happy and normal. The clothes they have on are also the best I have ever seen them wear – they don’t look dowdy or costumey.

From the interviews I’ve seen of them, they actually seem like mature, well-adjusted women. I know they had their struggles, but that was years ago. Happy to see them having a successful career and being able to help others because of it.

I am so happy they children of Honduras will have
some good shoes to wear. We were there on a cruise and it was so sad, everyone had on fake
crocs. I felt so bad for them. I’m not sure they ever even had a pair of regular shoes. It makes me feel good that the twins would go over
there and give them some shoes.

Very nice to see the olsen twins doing something for humanity. They should do that more often. I don’t believe I have ever seen anything like that where they are helping those less fortunate. That makes me like them a little because lord knows they just annoyed me when they were little and then they got older and more self absorbed. Thank you for showing the world you are human and have the humanity to help those with your fortune. Keep it up. You are both in a powerful position to do some pretty powerful and life changing things for our world and it is nice to see that you can and will. Kudoos to the Olsen twins for the money and most importantly your precious time. I believe you really made a very powerful impact for those children!!

I really like the Olsen twins and was thrilled to see this article a few weeks ago in another magazine. For those who say that they should do more, they could be giving back in other ways but choose to do so under the radar. I think that it is more honorable and respectable that way, but this is particular venture is partnered with TOMS shoes, so it was bound to get more publicity. I do not know if that is the case, but just don’t accuse them of not giving back enough when they probably give back more than you realize.

Jennifer —

The Olsens do a lot to support art philanthropy, and Ashley has appeared in ads for Amnesty International. They’re also big supporters of American production and almost all of their luxury clothing is produced in New York, and they have lobbied in congress to increase incentives for keeping production jobs in America. I think they do a lot of charity work but they aren’t flashy about it.

Alexandra on

I see a lot of comments saying it’s nice to see the Olsens “finally” doing something good for humanity. As someone who has been a fan of theirs since they were young, I know they actually do a LOT of charity work and always have. And I think it’s really respectable that they don’t try to show off and brag about it all the time like lots of celebs (Angelina, Kim Kardashian). People shouldn’t assume celebrities don’t donate their wealth just because they don’t go around trying to come off as do-gooders.

Why is this such a big deal? Has anyone ever thought these two twins are worth billions? Well they are, and now they are trying to clean up their image and collaborate with this sham of a company called “Toms”. Seriously people, Toms shoes cost maybe a good $3.50 cents to make, he then gives one to a child and profits a huge whopping difference. So no he is loaded off of this concept, how about a collaboration that matters. Why don’t the twins and Tom’s (AKA Blake) build some schools, provide housing, clothing, some food and water to really help. Everyone needs to look deeper into the real meaning of giving, and see the truth about this. It’s nothing more than a way to look nice while profiting from the cheap shoes, now made in sweatshops in China. So sad, if these individuals really did something that mattered with their money, that would be good news and a nice gesture. This is just a PR machine behind them.
