Hair Extensions: Summer’s Hot Beauty Trend?

Forget shortcuts: this summer, stars are going long. Hayden Panettiere and Jessica Alba are the latest celebs to take their hair to new lengths with extensions. Panettiere debuted her updated look at the Vans Custom Culture Event in New York City on June 2. The actress, who chopped her locks in April of 2010 because she “likes abrupt changes,” added wavy blonde strands to her head, returning to her Heroes roots. Alba, expecting her second child with husband Cash Warren, turned up at the Covenant House California Gala in Los Angeles on Thursday with brunette tresses that flowed well past her shoulders — a major contrast to the shorter style she sported as recently as late May. The ladies join Christina Ricci as the latest to lengthen their locks for the warm-weather months. Tell us: Would you rather go long or short for summer?

Flower Child! Dakota Fanning Models for Marc Jacobs’s Oh, Lola

Her little sis Elle may be making the red carpet rounds these days, but Dakota Fanning has her own fashionable gig: she’s the face of Marc Jacobs’s latest scent, Oh, Lola. “I’ve been a big fan of Dakota since the first time I saw her in a movie,” Jacobs tells WWD. “When we were speaking about who to use in the Oh, Lola fragrance ads — I had recently seen The Runaways. Dakota was in it, and I knew she could be this contemporary Lolita, seductive yet sweet.” The fragrance, which includes notes of raspberry, frais des bois, pear, magnolia, vanilla and more, is itself a Lolita — a sweeter “little sister” to Jacobs’s successful and “seductive” Lola. Fanning, who recently graduated from high school, says she’s honored to pose for the brand. “Every time one of Marc’s fragrances comes out I run to the store to buy it,” she tells WWD. “The moment I was asked to be a part of the Oh, Lola campaign, I was so humbled and said ‘yes’ immediately.” Oh, Lola — available in various sizes from $48-$88 — will debut at Bloomingdale’s stores July, and expand nationally in August, when Fanning’s ads officially hit fashion magazines. Tell us: What do you think of Fanning’s Marc Jacobs ad?

Whitney Port Dyes Her Hair ‘Tangerine-y Red’

Look who’s riding the redhead wave! Former reality starlet Whitney Port dyed her hair this week, going from the darker red she’d sported this spring to a “tangerine-y red color,” she tells PEOPLE. “I needed a change. I’ve kind of had ADD with my hair color.” Port, who rose to fame with her sun-kissed golden locks, says she was “sick of the blonde,” so she called on colorist Johnny Ramirez of Neil George to spice her hue up a bit. Is another color change in the works, maybe later this summer? “Probably,” she hints. Port, speaking to PEOPLE in New York City during Snapple’s celebration of National Iced Tea Day Friday, said that aside from her hair color, lately she’s focusing strictly on her clothing line, Whitney Eve. “I’m hoping to show [at Fashion Week],” she shares. “I’m working out the details of that right now.” Tell us: Do you prefer Port as a blonde or redhead? When summer temps soar, designer Rachel Roy knows how to keep her cool! Counting lightweight basics and statement jewels among her must-haves, the exotic beauty relies on a few select items to beat the heat. “My favorite for the summer is the Indian Oil Hair Serum,” she tells FASHIONetc.com of KeSARI’s jasmine-scented frizz fighter. Once her tresses are tamed, she then reaches for funky extras, singling out Sally Hansen’s Salon Effects nail polish strips as a fun (and affordable!) way to add a pop of color. But while her digits dazzle, Roy’s look is understated; she highlights a neutral Rachel Roy tunic dress and Roger Vivier shades as perfect everyday attire. “I live in my sunglasses,” she says. “The Roger Vivier design is simple, elegant and functional.” And the finishing touch: a one-of-a-kind statement ring from Turkish jeweler, Sevan Bicakci. Tell us: How do you plan on keeping cool this summer? –Justine Harman

Kate’s Jenny Packham: In Stylish Company

Kate Middleton ARK GalaFame; WireImage (2); CW

There’s no denying it: the Duchess of Cambridge stunned at the Absolute Return for Kids (ARK) gala in London Thursday. Hitting the carpet in a pearlescent rose-colored silk tulle Jenny Packham dress with sequin and Swarovski crystal beading ($6,300; currently sold out in the U.K.) — plus delicate L.K. Bennett Agata Rose heels ($315; currently sold out) — Catherine was the picture of a true princess. But she’s not the first star to step out in one of the British designer’s glimmering spring/summer 2011 creations. Ashley Tisdale made a splash at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing Party in February, wearing a nude antique lace Packham gown with an asymmetrical neckline and crystal-beaded waist. Sandra Bullock dazzled at the Golden Globes in January in a powder pink one-shoulder crystal-encrusted gown, accented with understated jewels. And Leighton Meester wore a tea length Packham dress with similar sparkle as Upper East Side queen Blair Waldorf on a recent episode of Gossip Girl. We think all four ladies looked lovely in their Packham creations, but want to know what you think. Tell us: Who wore their Jenny Packham dress best? Kate Hogan, with reporting by Monique Jessen
