Emma Watson on Making Time for Fashion — and More Movies

Finding her niche outside of Harry Potter has been Emma Watson‘s most challenging role to date. “I have lived in a complete bubble,” she admits in the July issue of Vogue. “And now I’m desperately trying to find my way through it.” A stint as an Ivy Leaguer, seeking refuge in the arts (“I love it and have a need to do it,” she says of painting) and side projects have helped define her off-screen character. “I was Warner Bros.’ pain in the butt. I was their scheduling conflict,” she says of mandating time for extracurricular fashion projects, including designing three collections for People Tree. “I was doing twelve-hour days on Harry Potter and then coming home to work for two more hours, sizing and cutting designs.” But her time on set inspired her, too; she grew close to makeup head Amanda Knight, and would spend hours experimenting with cosmetics in the makeup trailer. “That was my playground,” she says. “I would sit and play with lipsticks, foundations and eye shadows; and every now and then Amanda would let me do the extras’ face paint for the Quidditch matches.” Perhaps not-so-coincidentally, she’s now the face of Lancôme, too. But despite her busy off-set schedule, Watson is still finding time for new projects. She recently shot My Week with Marilyn and landed the role of Sam in The Perks of Being a Wall Flower. “Sam is such a different girl than who I am,” she says. “Hermione is so close to who I am as a person that I’ve never really had to research a role. I’m literally rediscovering what it means to be an actress.” –Justine Harman

Lily Allen’s Wedding Shoes: All the Details

While expectant bride Lily Allen selected a Parisian designer for her lacey wedding dress, she stuck closer to home when it came to her heels, choosing not one but two pairs of custom-made shoes from British designer Rupert Sanderson. Allen walked down the aisle Saturday in a Delphine Manivet gown and Sanderson’s skyscraper Hydra pumps, made from a mixture of iridescent pearled suedes and boasting a 5½-in. heel. The singer “loved the simplicity, elegance and subtle sexiness” of the towering peep-toe shoes, according to a release. For the evening party at her home in the Cotswolds, which had an ‘English cricket and afternoon tea’ theme, the newlywed literally kicked off her heels, slipping into Sanderson’s less gravity-defying Rossini flats for the low-key celebrations. “Lily was a joy to work with, she knows what she likes and what she looks great in,” Sanderson tells PEOPLE exclusively. Meetings with the singer began back in February, and the designer says it was love at first sight when Allen spotted ‘the ones.’ “The original Hydra is very graphic with colour-block geometric strips worked into the platform and heel,” he explains. “Lily loved the style, but wanted something softer and more feminine.” And Sanderson was happy to oblige. “I’ve been a fan of Lily’s for a long time so working with her has really been a highlight and hearing that Lily and Sam are expecting is wonderful news — congrats to the both of them!” –Monique Jessen

All Hail Kate’s Royal Weekend Style!

There’s no rest for the weary … and that includes royals! Following their glamorous night out Thursday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined the royal family for several celebrations over the weekend, which carried into Monday afternoon. And throughout all of the various events, Catherine was her usual stylish self. The newlywed first stunned Saturday at Trooping the Colour, Queen Elizabeth II’s 85th birthday celebration, wearing a white cotton and wool-blend Alexander McQueen piqué coat and black hat by Sylvia Fletcher of James Lock and Co. Later that day, she joined newly single sister Pippa at a friend’s wedding in Berkshire, England, sporting the same topper and a black-and-white Zara dress she’d worn out in 2007. Sunday, Catherine helped fête Prince Philip on his 90th birthday, wearing a bright blue coat she’d chosen for a friend’s 2009 wedding, accessorized with her nude L.K. Bennett pumps and a Philip Treacy hat. And Monday, she greeted the public during William’s festive Order of the Garter ceremony in a long dove-gray dress and coat by Katherine Hooker, matching hat custom created by Rachel Trevor Morgan (who also makes toppers for the Queen) and suede gray “Malone” pumps by Rupert Sanderson. It seems the royal weekend was just a brief, stylish preview of what’s to come on Catherine and William’s North American tour in July. PHOTO: Kate Winslet Strikes a Pose for St. John

She had the fashion world abuzz when she was announced as the new face of American knitwear company St. John in April, and now, Kate Winslet‘s first official photo for the fall 2011 advertising campaign has been revealed. In the image, shot by photographer Craig McDean at the Loew’s Theater in New Jersey, Winslet shows off her sultry side, laying across a stage draped in a figure-hugging granite Milano knit dress and sporting tousled curls. “Kate is an ideal choice for our new campaign,” St. John creative director George Sharp said in April. “She is an accomplished, beautiful woman with an extraordinary body of work, and one of the most admired actors of her generation. She embodies the modern sensibility of St. John, she is contemporary and authentically captures the style of the St. John woman.” The campaign will launch in September in magazines nationwide, but Winslet will also collaborate on “behind the scenes” vignettes for the brand’s website. Coco Arquette’s Purple and Blue Hair: Inspired by Aunt Patricia?

Like aunt, like niece? The Arquette-Cox clan seemed to make hair a family affair this weekend. Patricia Arquette, formerly of Medium, was spotted out in Beverly Hills Saturday with a full head of purplely-blue hair, pulled back into a ponytail. Then Sunday, Courteney Cox‘s daughter Coco, 7 today, emerged from a Malibu salon with purple and blue streaks in her light brown locks, courtesy of mom. Though Cox is currently estranged from husband David Arquette (though they’re still friendly), it’s possible Coco is still taking style cues from dad’s side of the family. Or maybe her new hairstyle was a birthday treat? Tell us: What do you think of the Arquette ladies’ new hues?

Angelina Jolie’s First Louis Vuitton Ad Revealed

The rumors were true: Angelina Jolie is indeed the new face of Louis Vuitton. The actress’s first ad for the company’s “Core Values” campaign was released today, featuring the star afloat on a boat in Cambodia’s Siem Reap province. Wearing her own clothes, no makeup and her own years-old monogrammed Alto bag, Jolie looks at peace in her photograph. “People are not used to seeing Angelina in this situation,” Vuitton’s executive vice president Pietro Beccari tells WWD. “I like the fact that it’s a real moment. This travel message we give through personal journeys is a fundamental one for the brand. This campaign is about a very special person and a very special journey.” In fact, Cambodia is the country from which Jolie adopted eldest son Maddox, and where she and partner Brad Pitt later established a foundation in the 9½-year-old’s name. Jolie follows in the footsteps of luminaries like Bono, Buzz Aldrin, Jim Lovell, Sally Ride and Mikhail Gorbachev, all of whom have posed for the “Core Values” campaign, as well as Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Scarlett Johansson, all former faces of Vuitton. Jolie’s ad will break in the International Herald Tribune Wednesday, and is expected to run in various publications for about 18 months. And though the handbag she carries in her ad is no longer in production, Jolie’s love of the piece is causing the company to consider “re-editing” it, Beccari says. He would not discuss the amount Jolie was paid for the campaign, but says she did donate an undisclosed portion of her fees to charity.  Tell us: What do you think of Jolie’s ad? Kate Hogan
