Miranda Lambert's Wedding Gown: Chosen for Good Luck!

When planning her wedding to country star Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert had the perfect dress in mind — and didn’t have to look far to find it. “The first time I heard her talking about it, she said, ‘My mom and dad have had a great long marriage and it must have been good luck for them, so I want to start my marriage wearing the same dress my mom had on,'” recalls Lambert’s publicist and wedding planner Kathy Best. “It was all about the lasting love her parents had, and that was very important to her.” Once Lambert slipped into the Gunne Sax dress, she knew she’d found the one. “It was a very tearful moment the day we first tried it on,” Lambert’s mom, Bev, tells PEOPLE Country. “She’s like, ‘I’m not even going to try another dress on. This is it Mom. There’s no other dress that would fit me better or mean more to me than this dress.’ It was stunning on her.” The gown, which Bev wore during her 1979 nuptials, had been tucked inside a cedar chest for more than 30 years, so Lambert gave it a little updating, adding a small train of the same fabric to the end, but otherwise leaving the spaghetti-strap, off-white frock untouched. During the couple’s wedding ceremony, Lambert’s family pastor explained the significance of the dress, and at the barnyard reception, the newlyweds displayed photos of their parents at their own weddings — including a shot of Bev in the Gunne Sax gown. “It was perfect,” Best adds. “And [Miranda] was just beautiful.” For more on Lambert and Shelton’s wedding and all your favorite country stars — and for free music downloads! — pick up the latest issue of PEOPLE Country or check out people.com/free. –Reporting by Danielle Anderson

That was really classy of her. I will never understand why anyone would want to spend thousands of dollars to wear a dress a few hours. It makes a lot more sense to wear a dress that has meaning. The more I read about Miranda, the more I like her.

Thats so great she wore her mom’s wedding dress. What a moment that must of been for the two of them when Miranda put it on.

They are a beautiful couple, and both seem normal—a rarity in Hollyweird! ;)

Jen on

How wonderful that she wore her mother’s dress. I wish I could have worn my mom’s and hope my daughter wears mine some day. They are a great couple. I wish them all the best in their marriage.

They’re a Nashville couple… Nashville doesn’t breed too much weird ;)

I think that’s so sweet and sentimental–I love it! That’s great that it was in such good shape for her to wear. Kudos to her for recycling!

A very pretty dress for a pretty lady. Blake is a lucky guy.

Kris K on

Kim wouldnt wear it. It didn’t cost thousands, or even millions.

That is so sweet. Nobody wears their moms wedding dress any longer. Maybe she will start a nice trend. I hope that she and Blake have the same long marriage and commitment that her parents obviously have. If they choose to have children and she does not have a daughter she can always have it made into a Christening gown for her future grandchildren. That way it can be carried on for generations to come.

This is a nice change from the “me, me, me ” generation that tends to get all the media attention these days. On one hand you have someone bragging every minute about their 2 million dollar engagement ring and on the other you have a successful young woman donning her mom’s wedding dress.
I love tradition. Blake a Miranda give me hope that better, less superfical days might be on the horizon.

Gunne Sax! Wow, I haven’t heard that name in a long time, but it sure does bring back memories of prom and formals. I’ve always adored Miranda, and the fact that she whole heartedly chose to wear her mom’s gown makes me love her more. I hope she and Blake have a very fufilling life together.

Love Miranda! Miranda’s lives what she sings and sings what she lives. Her song, The House that Built Me, is a testament to her and how she looks at life.

That’s nice to hear, I like The PHOTO and The New Issue of People Country Magazine!

“I don’t understand why people would want to spend thousands on a dress…”

Some brides can afford it so why not. To each their own. People can be so judgmental of others.

What a sweet story! It’s nice she was able to wear her mothers dress.

I am getting married in August and while I love my mother and am proud of the fact my parents have been happily married for 38 yrs, I will not be wearing my mother’s dress. I do not care for the style of it. To each their own! Instead of luck, I’ll use the memories and the life lessons I’ve learned from watching my parents.

Good looking guy+very pretty young woman=BEAUTIFUL couple…

@EBliss44..That was just her opinion, no reason to get your panties in a bind..I also, don’t understand the logic behind spending $$$$ on a wedding gown..

Wish them all the best…

Love Miranda and Blake! So sweet of her to wear her Mom’s dress!!

Lib on

That is really great of her to honor her parents marriage that way, and that meant more to her than an expensive designer gown, which she could have easily chosen. I agree @Tammy, the more I learn about Ran, the more I am a fan.

Glenda on

What a great story and a great couple. They are real and what you see is what you get. You don’t see that in stars today. I wish them nothing but happiness.
