Ralph Lauren on Designing Daughter’s Wedding Dress: ‘Nothing Was Perfect’

Ralph Lauren on Oprah
George Burns/Harpo Productions

When your dad is Ralph Lauren, finding a wedding dress designer is a no-brainer. But developing that perfect design can be a daunting task for everyone involved. Such was the case for candy store mogul Dylan Lauren, who’s getting married next month. “I had to do something that was better than ever before,” the father of the bride told Oprah Winfrey Wednesday during an exclusive interview. “That’s the only daughter I have. I wanted to just give her something that she’d really treasure, give her something that would be really amazing, and I wanted her to feel fantastic.” After consulting with wife Ricky, as well as Dylan, Ralph went through “a few drawings” in hopes of pleasing the bride. “Nothing was perfect,” he said. “Ricky looked at the first drawing and said, ‘Ralph, that’s not Dylan. I think she should have this and should have this.’” Ralph, who shed tears while he spoke of his daughter’s big day, ultimately made the bride very happy, though. “I may not take off the dress after the wedding,” Dylan joked. “I told my fiancé I may sleep in it, I may wear it the next day. It’s really beautiful. It’s stunning.” This isn’t the only big project Ralph has in the pipeline; he’s also designing the wedding dress of his daughter-in-law-to-be, FEED founder Lauren Bush. David Beckham Bodywear Coming to an Underwear Drawer Near You

David Beckham Underwear Designs Goff/INF

He just got a new dog, and is expecting his fourth child with wife Victoria this summer, but David Beckham apparently has a little free time on his hands. The British soccer star confirmed to WWD today that he’s at work on several projects, including the development of a second men’s fragrance, Homme by David Beckham, and the design of a new men’s bodywear line. “I have had the idea of doing a bodywear collection for some time now,” Beckham told WWD. “The push to do something of my own really came as a result of my collaboration with Armani. It proved to me that there is a real market for good-looking, well-made men’s bodywear. I can’t wait to show people the collection — although I’m not sure my mum will be too happy seeing a billboard image of me in underwear again.” Beckham, who’s topped Vanity Fair‘s best-dressed list, launched a clothing line with Adidas in 2009, and has fronted ad campaigns for everyone from Diet Pepsi to Motorola. So is the soccer stud ready to turn in his cleats? Not just yet. “I will always be associated with my sport,” he assured WWD, “but I am now working across other areas that will continue long after my career has finished.” –Kate Hogan

Beyoncé’s ‘Run the World (Girls)’ Video: The Fashion Breakdown!

Beyoncé is never less than fierce, but in her new video for “Run the World (Girls),” the first single off her fourth solo album, she was F-I-E-R-C-E! From her scarlet Alexander McQueen to her black Jean Paul Gaultier couture gown, the singer proved she can bust a move in fashion’s finest. Other notable looks in the Mad Max-style video, set in the desert, are a white feather-laden Givenchy Haute Couture gown by Riccardo Tisci and two sexy cut-out gowns from Emilio Pucci, the label that dressed her for the recent Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala. And let’s not overlook her accessories — from a fistful of geometric Laruicci gold rings to knee-high Sergio Rossi gladiator boots with plumes and studs, it’s enough to make a Beverly Hills housewife jealous.
