Katie Holmes’s Spring Style Tips: Cover Up and Define Your Waist

Katie Holmes Spring Style
Donato Sardella/WireImage

Katie Holmes has a unique perspective on the fashion industry. She’s a designer, collaborating on the high-end line Holmes & Yang; a model, representing Ann Taylor’s Spring 2011 collection; and a fashion plate, wearing designer duds wherever she goes. So where does she get her great style ideas? “I raid my friends’ closets,” she admitted to PEOPLE recently at an Ann Taylor event in L.A. “I’m always inspired by them. I tend to say, ‘Do you mind if I copy you?’” When she is emulating pals, she’s sure to highlight her waist — “I have a sense of what works on me and what doesn’t,” she shared — and give her body some shape. “I try not to wear dresses that look like muumuus, even if they happen to be in style,” she explained. “I can’t pull it off!” Another trend she’s wary of? Flashing her midriff. “I’m so over a cropped T-shirt or anything that shows my belly button,” Holmes said. “I went down that road; you can only do it when you’re young!” The star, who favors maxi skirts and tank tops in warm weather and generally wears flats — though she likes “the look of a heel” — says she always gets a boost when she hears from a certain critic, too. “Suri has great taste,” she shared. “I always feel complimented when she says, ‘Can I have that when I grow up?’” –Aili Nahas

WATCH: Paul Walker Heats Up the Beach For Cool Water Cologne

As a dad, Paul Walker may feel right at home baking cookies and playing with Barbies, but when it comes to work, the actor is a natural at baring his bod on the beach. The Fast Five star just landed a hot new role as the face of Davidoff Cool Water cologne, a job that requires him to show off his sexy side as he plays in the ocean and strolls along the sand — sans shirt. For Walker, the decision to work the camera for Davidoff was a no-brainer. “I have a really intimate relationship with the ocean and Davidoff Cool Water is the quintessential ocean fragrance,” he explained in a statement. “I am honored to be the new face of this campaign.” Look for the TV commercial and print ads, which were shot in Hawaii, to start steaming things up in July. Tell us: What do you think of Walker’s new campaign? –Kim Peiffer

Is Chelsy Davy After Kate’s Shoes?

Kate Middleton Shoes
DPA/Landov; NPG

How’s this for following in someone’s footsteps? Days after the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out (twice!) in L.K. Bennett‘s Greta wedge shoes, Prince Harry’s girlfriend, Chelsy Davy, was spotted trying a similar version of the style. On Wednesday, the 25-year-old was photographed on London’s King’s Road — where Kate recently did a bit of shopping — checking out some fancy footwear, including a pair of, well, black wedges at a shop called Office. The Daily Mail reports that Davy, who attended the royal wedding on Friday, didn’t purchase the shoes, though we’re guessing any knockoffs of Kate’s cute footwear will definitely fly off shelves soon. Already, her wedding perfume is sold out, people are clamoring for her morning-after Zara dress and a recreation of her Alexander McQueen wedding dress is in the works. Tell us: Are you coveting Kate’s wedges?

Ashley Williams: My “Something Borrowed” Will Be a Thong

In the new rom-com Something Borrowed, Ashley Williams plays one of many love-struck 30-somethings searching for Mr. Right. But in real life, the actress is happily engaged, and has some of the quirkier details of her wedding planned out. At the film’s Los Angeles premiere Tuesday night, Williams, sister of Kimberly Williams-Paisley, told PEOPLE that her “something borrowed” will definitely come from her big sis. “When she got married, she showed up to the church and she wasn’t wearing the right underwear — you could see the line,” Williams recalled. “In a panic [she] asked me … I gave her my thong basically, and that was her something borrowed. She didn’t have a something borrowed.” Now that’s sharing! To continue the tradition, Kimberly plans to return the favor at Ashley’s upcoming nuptials. “For my wedding in three weeks she is going to give me a thong,” she shared. Let’s hope this one is clean. –Reporting by Michelle Ward

We’re guessing Madonna doesn’t do bake sales or field trips, but one thing the material mom does do? Fashion! To help daughter Lourdes with a fundraiser at her school, New York’s LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, Madonna donated a signed pair of thigh-high black-and-white Chanel boots, available for auction now. The snap-up shoes, a European size 38, feature the iconic Chanel logo on the heel and nary a scuff on the sole. The minimum bid for the boots is $1,000 — no takers yet! — and they’ll be up on the LaGuardia website through May 12. Other items at the annual auction include tickets to New York City Fashion Week, fabulous beach getaways and more.

Kate’s Wedding Day Makeup: Get the Look!

Last week, it was rumored that the Duchess of Cambridge said ‘no thanks’ to professional makeup help, instead choosing to do her own eyes, cheeks and lips on her wedding day. So was it true? A friend of Kate’s tells PEOPLE that she did indeed go at it alone for her Friday nuptials. “She’s really confident when it comes to her makeup,” the source shares. However, it wasn’t without a little help. Bobbi Brown confirmed this week that members of the royal wedding party received “makeup artistry assistance” from company makeup artist Hannah Martin. And Brown, who’s been in the makeup business for more than 20 years, thinks the newlywed was the perfect picture of a blushing bride. “Catherine looked absolutely stunning,” she said in a statement. “I wouldn’t have changed a thing about her makeup. She looked beautiful, fresh and most importantly, happy.” To help Kate and Pippa wannabes get the girls’ gorgeous looks, the company released face charts with suggestions of products and colors you can use at home to get your own royal wedding face. To emulate Kate’s look, the brand recommends items like ivory, metallic and slate eye shadow, black ink gel liner and three shades of pink blush, plus a pink lip color topped with gloss. Pippa-like directions include bone and ash shadows, black ink gel liner, a bronze blush and pretty pink lip gloss. Check out the face charts for specific product names and placement.
