New mom Mariah Carey didn’t have to wait long to celebrate her first Mother’s Day. Just days after welcoming twins Monroe and Moroccan on April 30, the singer toasted her new life as a mom with a very special present from Nick Cannon: a 4-carat diamond and sapphire necklace from Jason of Beverly Hills. “Nick was really excited about the babies’ names and wanted to do a piece with them for Mariah’s first Mother’s Day,” jeweler Jason Arasheben explains. “Pink sapphires are bright and bold and diamonds are always so classic.” The sparkling piece, which also incorporates 14-karat white and rose gold, is valued at $12,000. Cannon, a longtime customer of Jason, was excited about his big surprise. “Nick came in and met with Jason on the Friday after his twins were born,” a source tells PEOPLE. “He was bleary eyed, looking so tired but so happy — all smiles, saying he wanted to design something special for Mariah’s first Mother’s day. He couldn’t want to surprise her on Sunday.” The bauble wraps up a sparkling week for stars; Rachel Zoe recently flashed her 10-carat push present, while Tori Spelling Tweeted about her fifth-anniversary pearl ring. EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Kate Winslet Works the Camera for St. John

When Kate Winslet visited a historic New Jersey movie theater last week, it wasn’t to catch a film; the actress was shooting her first campaign photos as the new face of St. John. The Oscar-winning star was recently tapped to front the American knitwear line — taking over for past models Angelina Jolie and Karen Elson — and did so in a glamorous setting, at Jersey City’s historic Loew’s Theater. “They want to keep it looking like me and not have it look like me pretending to be a model wearing these clothes,” Winslet told WWD the day of the shoot. “I’m obviously not a model. I’m not the size of a model. I don’t have the face of a model or the shape of a model.” What she does have, though, is the timeless beauty the brand was looking for. St. John is using Winslet to help evolve its image, adding looks like silk gowns, leopard print coats and woven pants — plus costume jewelry and handbags — to its usual collections of skirt suits. “To me, it’s fresher than that,” Winslet said. “It seems fresher than that because of the fabrics. They’re extremely delicate, extremely wearable and very flattering. I have worn several of their pieces over the years.” We’ll see just what she’s been wearing in September, when her ads debut in magazines nationwide. –Kate Hogan

Lady Gaga’s Fashion Sense: ‘There Are No Rules’

Lady Gaga V Magazine

She’s rocked the runway in Paris, worn gravity-defying heels and even lived in a custom-made vessel for a day. But Lady Gaga‘s take on fashion isn’t so far out. “I’m mostly inspired by shapes, and using the body to create iconography,” she tells Elton John in the latest issue of V magazine. “Leather culture and high-street punk fashion. I would say perfecto jackets occupy most of my fashion thoughts.” It’s a far cry from the woman who’s been sporting ‘protrusions’ on her shoulders and forehead lately, and often wears her heavy makeup to bed. But Gaga, who has relationships with such designers as Mugler’s Nicola Formichetti and the late Alexander McQueen, says “there are no rules” when it comes to her fashion sense. “We were laughing on the set of the ‘Judas’ video — we had 50 racks of couture,” she explains, “and I wore leather, Motorhead panties made of a vintage T-shirt, custom from young designers who are my friends, my own creations, and archive Christian Lacroix from a museum.” But her style doesn’t always fall into place so easily; when John asks her about her future, Gaga replies, “I don’t know. I’m still trying to figure out what I’m going to wear later.” For more on Gaga’s style inspiration — and her new album, Born This Way — check out the summer issue of V magazine, on newsstands now.

She’s got a new love, new film — and now Rachel McAdams has a new hair color, too! The actress hit the Cannes Film Festival red carpet Wednesday with noticeably lighter strands (though no sign of the mysterious ring she was sporting a few days earlier) to promote her new Woody Allen flick, Midnight in Paris. We think the Elle cover girl looks great in any shade, but we want to know what you think. Do you prefer her lighter locks, or her darker do? –Alex Apatoff

Keira Knightley: I’m a Really Bad Bridesmaid!

Keira Knightley is a bad bridesmaid
Jackson Lee/Splash News Online

Keira Knightley is a pro at acting poised and sultry on set, but when it comes to being a bridesmaid, she’s, well, a little challenged. During an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Tuesday, Knightley listed the series of snafus that occurred when she stood up in brother Caleb’s recent Scottish nuptials. “I was a really bad bridesmaid,” she told the talk show host. “It was the first time I’d done it so it was really exciting. I don’t know what happened. ” After putting on her “really twirly” bridesmaid dress, the face of Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle fragrance said things started to go downhill. “Every drink I had went straight down the front and then the food went straight down the front,” she said. And the problems didn’t end there. “Then I went to the bathroom and I got it caught in the toilet door and it all ripped up the back.” Good thing she wasn’t invited to the royal weddingTell us: Would you make Knightley a bridesmaid? –Kim Peiffer
