Liv Tyler may be impressed with her father’s American Idol judging skills, but as it turns out, dad Steven Tyler is actually the one looking up to his daughter for fashion advice! Liv tells nymag.com that it’s no surprise she approves of her father’s sense of style, because he often draws fashion inspiration straight from her wardrobe. “My dad wears girls’ clothes — it’s so funny,” she shares. “Sometimes I see him and I’m like, ‘Nice shirt!,’ because it’s from my closet.” But regardless of his often-questionable clothes, his proud daughter loves him just the way he is. “I think he’s really handsome. I feel really proud of him,” she says. “I think he’s a really amazing, magical man and all those funny things that he says that people find so strange, my whole life I’ve been hearing them and they make me laugh. And I speak his language; I understand what he’s talking about.” Tell us: Would you let your dad raid your closet? –Kim Peiffer

Well, not her whole life. Liv Tyler was raised thinking the man she and her mother lived with (Todd Rungren) was her father. She “discovered” that Steve Tyler when her mother took her to an Aerosmith concert when Liv was about 13. Her father has serious problems.

Lisa- I have to diagree with you. While Steven Tyler may be ecentric, he has finally managed to put his demons to rest. So, while you may not relish in his strange behavior, I would not call him sick. After all, he got your attention! Congrats to Steven and Liv for being able to have fun in life and live the way you want, and march to your own tune!!

From what I have read, Lisa is right – Liv didn;t know Steven as her father until she was 13. That doesn’t make him “sick”, but it does sound like Liv’s mother had (or has) issues, though. Steven has been nothing but kind and supportive to the contestents on Idol, and he is a refreshing change from Simon Cowell! Steve’s a strange-talking dude, sure….but hey, he says he’s clean and sober, and he does appear to be trying his best. Life is about second chances…let Steven have his.

Liv’s mother didn’t want Steven in her life when she was a child because of his severe drug and alcohol issues. Once he cleaned up she agreed to let them have a relationship. As for her use of the phrase “all my life” I think it needs to be taken loosely. I’m 33 and I believe she’s a couple of years older than I am. I think that if you’ve known someone for over 20 years and that time began when you were still a child, you can safely say you’ve known them all your life.

Umm… interesting & wierd to hear! If I were a Girl, I don’t think I’d let my Dad raid my Closet, lol! I also thought Vin Diesel’s Breakdancing VIDEO with a Friend when they were Teenagers was interesting & funny!

She has known Steven her whole life, she did not know he was her father right away. At first, the Ex did not tell Steven, either. Steven has another daughter (Mia) close to Liv’s age, the two were childhood friends not knowing they were sisters. Steven, his wife, Liv’s mom, and Tood Rundgren lived in the same neighborhood when Liv was little.

When will this culture get over the idea of gender-based clothing? Women and girls have worn trousers and T’s for years, it’s high time men and boys claim the right to dress as they wish. This guy might be “weird” in many ways, but chosing “girl” clothing is a perfectly sane thing to do, in my opinion.

I just LOVE Steven Tyler! His issues are his own and are not for us to judge. Every time I see him anywhere or hear him sing (or even talk) I just want to squeeze him with a big hug. His life is his and I think it’s great that Liv gave him that second chance. Whatever they have, it is working for them and he looks fabulous in her clothes! HA! he’s been dressing crazy for years…this is not a new development.
