It’s only been a few days since Prince William and Kate Middleton became husband and wife, but hours after the Duchess walked down the aisle in her stunning Alexander McQueen wedding dress, there was already another version in the works! A.B.S. by Allen Schwartz, a label known for whipping up less-expensive versions of favorite red carpet frocks in record time, created a lookalike of the famous dress just 12 hours after the wedding. The gown, which bears a striking resemblance to the royal wedding gown worn by Middleton, was created by a team of 35 people who drew out the sketches, chose the fabrics and sewed the gown together. Schwartz tells Today that among the most significant challenges of creating the masterpiece with such a quick turnaround time were perfecting the triple-mesh veil, which was sewn to a tiara, and beautifying the eight yards of fabric in the skirt, topped in the back with a bustle. The dress will retail for about $800 and will be available in select Lord & Taylor stores this July. For those looking to channel the sophisticated look of Middleton’s sister Pippa, you’re in luck: the brand plans to create a version of her buzzed-about white McQueen maid of honor look as well. Tell us: Would you walk down the aisle in the lookalike gown? –Kim Peiffer

It’s a bit annoying that people can so clearly make a copy of a dress and sell it without legal issue. A design really is intellectual property and they didn’t just get “inspired” by it by making a blouse with lace and a V neck, they flat out set out to make a copy of the dress and publicly state that. Can you imagine telling a professor that you deliberately set out to copy someone else’s essay because you knew a lot of people were a fan of it and you thought he’d like it?

the groom wore a stunning red tunic with powder blue sash and one medal. The bride wore something white.

I’m glad WWE Raw Superstar, Goldust, says they’ll be a Sequel to his Book and good luck to him with his 1st Movie Role!

i agree….the second dress was a knockout! her first one was more appropriate for the abbey, but i think the second one was all about her. i loved it.

No one in their right mind would wear that horrible knock-off. Even if it wasn’t cheap looking, do you really need to copy someone else’s look? Get a personality, people!

i think that what makes the gown gorgeous is the tight bodice so you would have to be very slim to pull this off. however, how nice to see a gown that someone’s breasts are not sticking out of. strapless gowns are beginning to seems ‘same old, same old”. come to think of it, i bet a heavier woman could wear this too and look lovely in it. kate is one of a kind and there are few that could look as beautiful but the gown is something new and different for a change and i think would look wonderful on many women. i would buy it or at least give it a try.

I would love Kate’s gown, only not in white, to renew my vows for my 20th anniversary in 2012..

Loved her dress… my dress, 25 years ago, was, in fact, long-sleeved lace but with a sweetheart neckline, tight at the waist and Aline skirt… a classy sophisticated look, or timeless as they call it now … not a fan of all the skin showing with dresses these days either.
