Robin Wright: I Will Never Put on a Corset Again

Robin Wright The Conspirator
The American FIlm Company

“I will never put on a corset again. I vow to never wear one again,” The Conspirator‘s Robin Wright told PEOPLE Sunday at the film’s Washington, D.C., premiere. “That was the toughest part of the role, wearing that in the 100-degree heat on the set.” In addition to “sweating profusely” on location in Savannah, Ga., Wright and costar Evan Rachel Wood dealt with extra-heavy hoop skirts, too. “Having to walk around with your own gravitational pull was insane,” Wood said. “I don’t know how women did that. Robin and I kept talking about that the whole time. Even sitting down becomes an event.” While Wood has worked with corsets before (and on horseback!), she said she could never envision herself living during the Civil War era, when the film is set. “Absolutely not,” she exclaimed. “Mainly because of the corsets and the hoop skirts.” But the lack of makeup was jarring, too. Normally a makeup every day type of girl, Wood admits she “can’t leave the house without mascara.” However, her role as the daughter of a woman accused of conspiracy in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln required a decidedly less glam look. “It’s part of the territory,” she explained. “Playing a historical person, it helps. I didn’t think I looked anything like the [character] until they put the eyebrows on me, and the hair. It’s kind of eerie.” –Arnesa A. Howell

It’s been 15 years since the first Scream film hit theaters, delighting audiences with thrills and chills. And while the cast members have come and gone — some in an untimely manner on screen — Scream 4 seems to be the most star-packed of the series yet. Last night, the sure-to-be-frightening film premiered in Los Angeles at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, drawing a whole roster of celebs. But the ladies who really stood out were original stars Courteney Cox and Neve Campbell (in Vivienne Westwood), plus newcomers Kristen Bell (in Vanessa Bruno), Hayden Panettiere (in Zac Posen), Anna Paquin (in Cushnie et Ochs) and Emma Roberts (in Burberry). We loved all of their pretty dresses, but we want to know what you think. Tell us: Who gets your vote for best-dressed Scream 4 star?

Would You Wear a Front Bun Like Thandie Newton?

Thandie Newton HairRichard Young/Startraks

Though the dog days of summer are still weeks away, we can already predict that our hairstyle of choice will be a chic and easy chignon. We’re also partial to a low, ballerina-style bun, and we love a topknot or even a side bun on occasion, too — gotta keep that hair off your neck on humid August afternoons! One style we’ve never tried, though, is the front bun, like the one Thandie Newton sported to a London Louis Vuitton event recently. While Newton is gorgeous enough to pull off pretty much hairstyle she tries, this might be the one bun that we’re not totally sure about trying out. Tell us: Would you rock a front bun like Newton? Sound off and you might see your answer in a future PEOPLE StyleWatch magazine!

Nicki Minaj’s Wig Inspiration: Marge Simpson!

Nicki Minaj Wigs
Jackson Lee/Splash News Online

Nicki Minaj is not the typical female rapper, so it only makes sense that her style inspiration would be a little unusual as well. “Never did I think I would be rocking the Marge Simpson,” Minaj tells PEOPLE of her wigs, which she claims are reminiscent of The Simpsons matriarch’s tall blue beehive. “But you know what, now that I am [wearing] them I realize that she was cutting edge and before her time. So shout out to Marge.” While launching Casio’s new Tryx Camera at the Times Square Best Buy Theater on Thursday, the rapper explained, “My wigs are ever changing in height, width, color, size. They make me feel happy. Wearing them makes me feel that I can be a different person every day and that is kind of exciting.” But it’s not always an easy decision to pick the day’s do. “Sometimes I wake up in the morning and I am like, ‘This is a high-top day’ or ‘This is a bob day,’ but when I get my clothes on that’s when I see.” Luckily, Minaj has never faced a day without some hair to wear. “I always have lots of wigs to choose from,” she shares, thanking her “steady ” and ever-present hair stylist Terrence Davidson, who custom makes her eclectic wigs of art. “Terrence, my hair dresser, is always on the prowl. He is always making new stuff, and we talk about new styles as the days go by.” And he’s in charge of the all-important maintenance, since the petite rapper also has no qualms in wearing her wigs twice. “Of course I wear them more than once, ” she exclaimed. “Wash it and rotate, and it is good as new.” –Debra Lewis-Boothman
