When she met David Lauren on a rainy New York night in April of 2004, the last thing on model Lauren Bush’s mind was how their names might sound together if they married. But now, seven years later, the two are engaged, and the 26-year-old is facing the fact that she’ll soon be Lauren Lauren. “Out of all the people I could’ve met and fallen in love with,” she jokes in the May issue of Harper’s Bazaar. “It’s just ironic that David would end up with someone named Lauren.” So how to solve the problem? “I think it will be Lauren Bush-Lauren,” she says. “That’s not final, but I think it’s nice to have the same name as your husband. I am sort of old-fashioned in that way.” Luckily for Bush — granddaughter and niece of former presidents George H.W. and George W. Bush, respectively — the task of finding a wedding dress designer was easy: she just had to ask her future father-in-law, Ralph Lauren. While fashion falls to the groom’s side of the family, Lauren, who started modeling in high school, has established a style career of her own. She co-founded FEED Projects while studying at Princeton in 2005, and since, has designed wildly popular totes (and collaborated on items like high-end clutches) which have provided more than 58 million meals for needy children in nearly 75 countries. On top of that, she launched an eco-friendly clothing line, Lauren Pierce Atelier, in 2008, as well. So where does she get her passion for fashion? From her grandmother, former first lady Barbara Bush. “She has always paid attention to fashion,” Bush says. “She is a very assertive grandma; she’ll let you know if she likes what you’re wearing or not.” The May issue of Harper’s Bazaar hits stands April 26. –Kate Hogan

Her husband could take her name if she wants them to have the same name so badly. No (good) reason why it has to be the woman that gives up the name her parents gave her.

Or they could just both keep their names.

Remember Paige Davis from Trading Spaces? Her married name was Paige Page. LOL

I think it’s a little disambiguous because Ralph Lauren’s *real* name is Ralph Lipschitz (sp?). So, her legal name is more likely to be Lauren Lipschitz than Lauren Lauren. Funny though.

Rebecca Paige’s real name(first name) is actually Mindy.

Meh I think she should just go with Lauren Lauren, it’s not as if people don’t know who she is or that that is her name. Embrace it!

@Kathleen smith?

Really? George HW was gorgeous when he was young as was George W. Much better than what is in office now in more ways than one.

If she’s that old-fashioned, then okay, take David Lauren’s last name and become Lauren Lauren. It makes more sense to just be Lauren Bush-Lauren.
At least she’ll have the inside to the Ralph Lauren fashion world, not that she hasn’t already.

I think you Deets missed the point of her taking her fiances last name. I can not think of one man in history that took his wifes last name. It is tradition and only tradition that makes women take their new husbands last name. I think that it is name that Lauren has old fashion ideals and views. It is rare today in women who want to make a point that they are equal to men. What they seem to forget is that some traditions can be followed without loosing yourself to them. I took my husbands last name and I haven’t regreted it once.
I also think that it is nice that Lauren lists her grandmother as the influencial person in her life. So many women now a day to “famous people” as their influence. Yes; I realize that her grandmother is famous. If you read the actual article Barbara Bush didn’t influence her because she was the 1st lady, but because she was a good grandmother with strong opinions. She sounded a lot like my grandmother.
I hope Lauren has a nice life. She seems to be a well raised young lady, and good business women. Her parents should be very proud. She has done a lot for others in her short life, and I am sure she will do a lot more in the future. I have 2 daughters and she is the right type of role model.
