TOMS Shoes Asks: Are You Going Barefoot Today?
Shoes are something we take for granted — we can’t get enough of stars’ designer looks — but in reality, millions of children worldwide dangerously go barefoot every day. Aiming to stop that, TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie started the One Day Without Shoes event, asking people to go barefoot so that kids don’t have to. The nationwide walk, now in its fourth year, raises awareness of the impact proper footwear can have on a child’s life. “Wearing shoes and basic hygiene can prevent both infection and disease due to unsafe roads and contaminated soil,” Mycoskie said in a statement. “By imagining a life without shoes, we can all contribute to the awareness of these conditions.” If you weren’t able to participate in your city’s walk, not to worry: for every pair of TOMS Shoes purchased, every day, the company donates a pair to a child in need.
