Conan O’Brien Talks Jeggings With Martha Stewart

When Conan O’Brien rocked man jeggings on his nighttime talk show in December, viewers marveled at his bravery — and those great legs! So what prompted the redheaded host to wear such tight pants? Why Tim Gunn, of course. “He dared me to wear them on the air, and I did,” O’Brien told Martha Stewart Sunday night on her Hallmark Channel special, Men Who Make Us Laugh. During his interview, O’Brien said he became “obsessed” with the fashion trend. “Walking around the Warner Brothers lot, I’d see these very attractive women walking around in these incredibly tight jeans,” he explained. “I kept saying, ‘Look at these jeans the women are wearing!’” When his assistant finally informed him that the pants weren’t standard jeans but in fact, jeggings, well, his mind was blown. So, would he wear them again? That remains to be seen, though he told the domestic doyenne that he wouldn’t mind designing a line with her. “If you put the Martha stamp on Conan jeggings, we’d move some product,” he joked. Tell us: What’s your opinion on man jeggings? Kate Hogan

Reese Witherspoon’s Wedding Look: More Details!

Reese Witherspoon Wedding
Kevin Mazur/WireImage

Reese Witherspoon tied the knot Saturday night in a dress that would make her style-conscious alter ego, Elle Woods, proud. The actress walked down the aisle at her Ojai, Calif., ranch estate in a custom Monique Lhuillier gown as she wed fiancé Jim Toth in front of a star-studded crowd that included Sean Penn, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey, Jr. There was quite a bit of speculation surrounding Witherspoon’s dress choice — a January trip to Paris, where she visited several designer boutiques, had fashionistas guessing — but ultimately, her decision was Lhuillier, a label she’s teamed up with in the past. (Other brides who’ve chosen the brand include Carrie Underwood, Ashlee Simpson and Jewel.) Underneath her gorgeous gown, Witherspoon wore Jimmy Choo’s “Macy” satin platform sandal, part of the line’s luxe bridal collection. And on her ring finger, to match her sparkling 4-carat diamond engagement ring from the William Goldberg Diamond Corporation, she now sports a band from the same brand. Read more about Witherspoon’s wedding here!

Sources: Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewels to Be Auctioned at Christie’s

As the world continues to mourn the passing of Elizabeth Taylor, there is one question that comes to mind: What’s going to happen to those fabulous jewels? According to sources, the actress’s brilliant baubles — estimated in the past at $150 million collectively — are expected to be auctioned by Christie’s sometime in the future. (A Christie’s spokeswoman declined to comment.) Part of what makes her collection so special is its quality, according to Luxury Jewels of Beverly Hills President/CEO Peter Sedghi, who worked with the star on her House of Taylor jewelry line. “She had the most amazing eye,” he tells PEOPLE. “To be honest, she knew more than I did [about jewelry]. When you would show her stones, she would tell you the origin, if it’s good quality, bad quality, where it came from.” And though Taylor loved it all — colored stones, pearls — she had a special place in her heart for diamonds, Sedghi says. “She had a collection like I’ve never seen before, and she knew exactly what every one was — what the diamonds were, the quality. But it was more for her; it was … the history behind it. A lot of them had sentimental value.” Friend and celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz says such sparklers were a natural part of Taylor’s history. “The studios, in order to make her happy, they’d always give her jewelry. So she grew up collecting it,” she explains. “People always gave her gifts … it was something that she learned to love.” And she took great care of them, too. “She [had] collections and collections, and rooms. She [knew] where every single piece was. [It was] amazing.” Of all her baubles — which included the 69-carat Taylor-Burton diamond (pictured, purchased for more than $1 million) — it was the 33-carat Krupp diamond, gifted to her by fifth husband Richard Burton, that she treasured most. But regardless of which jewels she preferred, she was always wearing at least one. In fact, Schwartz remembers receiving a phone call one morning in 2003 after Taylor had taken a fall. “She was like, ‘I don’t feel good, my hair is dirty but I’m wearing my bracelet,’” she recalls. “I mean, fabulous.” For more on Taylor’s life and legacy, pick up the latest issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands now.Reporting by Joanne Fowler, Lesley Messer and Michelle Tan

Emmy Rossum Has a Fear of Shears

Emmy Rossum Steers Clear of Scissors

Emmy Rossum doesn’t like to take any chances with her luscious locks. In fact, the actress shies away from haircuts in general these days. “I’m really afraid of scissors,” Rossum admitted to PEOPLE last week while hosting the Suave Challenge in New York City. “I get that panic moment — I think every girl does — when they’re snipping and you can’t quite tell how much they’re snipping.” Perhaps it all stems back to a ‘hair-iffic’ period Rossum experienced as a child. “My hair was super, super short when I was five years old and other every girl looked like Serena van der Woodsen,” she recalled. “I had short, inch-long curly hair so it was pretty scarring. I haven’t cut my hair since.” She does take good care of those glossy brunette strands, though. During the event, where women were asked if their hair products worked as well as Suave’s new, reformulated Suave professionals line, the Shameless star explained that pricey products aren’t always the secret to perfect strands. “When you work on shoots, they always use super expensive products on you and I just feel like it’s a little out of reach for every girl, especially right now with the economy,” Rossum said. “It just doesn’t make sense to be spending half your paycheck on your conditioner.” Tell us: Have you ever had a scissors scare? –Kim Peiffer

Bryce Dallas Howard: Colorful Clothes Made Me More Social

Two years ago, a friend urged actress Bryce Dallas Howard to purge her closet of all things black. Many women would’ve balked at the command, but to Howard, it was a revelation. “Ever since then I’ve much preferred to wear bold color, even if I’m picking my son up from school and working from home,” she tells PEOPLE. “I’ve been wearing accessories, purses and dresses everyday as if I were in sweatpants. As a result I’ve felt much more social. Clothes are a way of celebrating the day.” And Howard has a lot to celebrate: the actress is currently the face of Kate Spade New York, and stars in a series of fun, colorful ads for the company. “Shooting the campaign was one of the most creatively playful experiences I’ve had,” she says. “I was riding on bikes, jumping off staircases, climbing on top of mailboxes and painting on the wall. My son (Theodore, 4) was with me and it was as if I was entering his world for a day!” Howard says the on-set stylist taught her how to mix and match purses — “I’m the colorful bag lady [now],” she shares — and learned that she loves color blocking. “The shoot inspired me,” she says. “The fact that I am representing the line now feels utterly surreal.” –Reporting by Suzanne Zuckerman
