Lily Allen to Unveil a Line of Vintage-Inspired Designs

Lily Allen Expands Her Clothing Collection
Courtesy Lucy in Disguise

British singer Lily Allen put her music career on hold last year to open a vintage store in London, Lucy in Disguise, with sister Sarah Owen. Now, the designing duo is expanding their fashion dream, creating an 18-piece collection of vintage-inspired designs for pre-fall. According to WWD, Allen says the line is inspired by the idea of the fictional Lucy, “a time-traveling fashionista who’s inviting you to explore her wardrobe … It’s a great opportunity to play with the character.” The collection will feature looks like a 1940s-style rayon crepe tea dress with a lily of the valley print, a lawn green high-waisted maxidress embroidered with matte gold sequins, and Capone, a black sequined and beaded tulle flapper-esque dress (plus an ethereal purple-and-peach gown, pictured). The collection, priced from $175-$630, will be available on shopbop.com and lucyindisguiselondon.com in June. Tell us: What do you think of Allen’s expanded fashion collection? –Kim Peiffer

Jessica Simpson Will Help Design Her Wedding Gown

Jessica Simpson Fashion
Marion Curtis/Startraks

Though she hasn’t set a date for her wedding to fiancé Eric Johnson — they might even elope! — Jessica Simpson has one big detail in mind: her dress. “I will be part of designing my own wedding gown,” the star, who wore a custom Vera Wang gown for her 2002 wedding to Nick Lachey, tells WWD. “But not without telling your mom,” interjects mother Tina. The mother-daughter pair shares everything, it seems, including ownership of Jessica’s billion-dollar fashion empire, which includes sportswear, prom dresses, denim, shoes and more. “I couldn’t do this without my mom. We have the same eye,” Jessica says. “[She's] been my stylist since I was born.” The two approve every item in the Jessica Simpson line, down to the button. “It’s a three-step process,” Tina explains. “We see it at the beginning design stage. We’ll give our inspiration and our color palette. And then, mid-design, they bring to us what they’re working on, and then we have final approval.” When Jessica is busy with other commitments in Los Angeles, it’s Tina who jets to New York to do the dirty work. “The biggest thing … is we just don’t walk in and put Jessica’s name on something and walk away,” she explains. For Jessica’s part, having her mom on board couldn’t be better. “We get along great,” she says. “I feel like we’ve grown up together. Having a young mom has inspired my style.” And though she names fashion houses like Lanvin, Alexander McQueen and Valentino among her favorites, she vows to never charge designer prices for her duds. “All this looks expensive, and it doesn’t fall apart,” Jessica shares. “I don’t think we need to go there. Making it affordable for everybody is really where we’re at.” Tell us: Do you own anything from the Jessica Simpson collection? Kate Hogan

Reese Witherspoon: Robert Pattinson Is Dirty

Reese Witherspoon: Robert Pattinson Is Dirty
Twentieth Century Fox

Reese Witherspoon is definitely fond of Water for Elephants costar Robert Pattinson, but that’s not to say she didn’t find his on-set grooming habits, well, questionable. “It’s a boy thing, right? To have dirty fingernails and hair,” the newlywed actress asked in a chat with Entertainment Weekly. “And his clothes were dirty all the time.” However, she can’t quite blame the Twilight star — after all, the movie takes place in a circus, a far cry from the damp, overcast Pacific Northwest setting of the supernatural series. “It was a nice escape for him to be tan and in the sun all the time instead of the vampire gear,” Witherspoon explained. In the film, out April 22, the stars’ characters, Jacob and Marlena, become entwined in a tragic love triangle. But before they hit theaters, the costars will hit Vegas — they’re presenting together Sunday at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Tell us: Do you prefer Pattinson tanned and rugged as Jacob, or pale and clean cut as Edward? –Kim Peiffer

Lady Gaga Inspires Mugler Designer — For Free

Lady Gaga Mugler Fashion Show
Fame

When it comes to Lady Gaga‘s involvement with French fashion house Mugler, she may be on the runway, but she’s not on the payroll. “It’s just friends helping each other,” longtime Gaga stylist and newly-anointed Mugler creative director, Nicola Formichetti (left), told the New York Times. “She had been aware of what he was doing for years,” adds Formichetti pal Jo-Ann Furniss. “He’s not making a name off her back, and she realized that. Their relationship is very touching and nice.” Gaga’s symbiotic association with Mugler started while filming her epic “Telephone” video, when she and costar Beyoncé were given access to the fashion house’s archives of clothing and accessories. “Then [Gaga] started wearing them [out], and I thought it still worked in a pop-culture way,” Formichetti says. Though Gaga provides stylistic input, and has arguably given the brand a boost, she is not remunerated for her contributions. “I think when you start talking about money, it stops the whole creative process,” says Formichetti. And while he’s inspired by his famous collaborator (he calls his adherence to her work “almost evangelical”), Formichetti insists that Mugler is not dependent on her for sales. “If we were, it would mean our business has no substance,” he counters. And you thought you were the only one with an unpaid fashion internship! –Justine Harman
