Ivory Soap and Foot Massages: Lady Gaga Spills Her Beauty Secrets

03/18/2011 at 12:00 PM ET

Lady Gaga Beauty
Ramey

It’s hard to think of someone as glam as Lady Gaga mulling over a makeup bag. But in the latest issue of PEOPLE, the superstar singer opens up about her surprisingly normal beauty routines (hint: the last thing she does before bed is brush her teeth!). Gaga, who calls her mother Cynthia Germanotta and Princess Diana her beauty influences, says her mom taught her to wash her face with Ivory soap. But that doesn’t mean the singer always follows directions. When asked how many nights per week she goes to bed wearing makeup, she replies, “Seven. That is not good for your skin, but I’m blessed with good genes.” What is good for her skin? The sunblock she carries around in her beauty bag. “I don’t like to tan my face because it’s bad for wrinkles,” she explains. The natural brunette, known for her now white-blonde locks, says she misses her dark hair when she has to “get a chemical haircut because my blonde hair is falling out.” And that’s not the only damage fame has done: she admits that she’s dying for a foot massage, to relieve her achy feet after all those days spent walking in sky-high heels. But Gaga — whose favorite fragrances growing up were Versace Baby Rose Jeans and Revlon’s Jean Naté — says that above all, the best beauty tip is to be yourself. “Just go with your gut,” she urges. “Whenever you try to be someone else, it’s boring.” Perhaps that’s why she’s skipping mascara and fake lashes these days. “I think it’s more modern not to wear [either]. I just wear eyeliner.” For more on Gaga’s beauty secrets, pick up the March 28 issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands now. Rennie Dyball and Samantha McIntyre

Interesting & nice to hear! Also, I liked The PHOTO of Eva Longoria’s Cake, it looked really good! Also, when Josh & Anna Duggar were on The TODAY Show on an Episode of 18 Kids & Counting, it was nice that Buddy Valastro, from Cake Boss, made them a Cake so they could find out The Gender of Their 1st Child, that was so nice of him & a great way for them to find out it was a Girl!

Madonna called. She said you are trying every second of the day to be someone else, specifically her. Now wake up.

Sorry I don’t think she is trying to be Madonna at all. All artists have influences and Madonna should be flattered that someone has been influenced by the artist she once was. Notice I said once was. Maybe Madonna is just jealous because she is no longer relevant. She lost her appeal to me in the 90’s. She became someone I no longer cared to listen to musically. As far as GaGa’s beauty tips. Maybe it’s time to return to your beautiful dark hair before you lose it all. Not to mention all those chemicals seep into the scalp. NOT GOOD!! Ivory soap is the way to go!! As far as make up, less is more. Make up should enhance one’s own beauty not make one look like a clown or over done. Just my 2 cents.

THE WORDS GAGA AND BEAUTY IN THE SAME SENTENCE IS THE BIGGEST OXYMORON SHE IS VILE

slc on

You took from both Ace of base and Madonna, Ya your orig. Lady Gaga … I hope the next artist you take from does something about it.

Snow11 on

This is actually the first time I’ve seen her look attractive. I think vile is a strong word. Her whole “persona” vs. the real her is what confuses me. She seems like a humble, timid person in interviews, but yet goes around dressed in her lingerie at places like ball games. And her macabre costumes at functions that call for her to just be normal (like her sister’s graduation). She needs to keep the skimpy outfits and theatrics (aka the egg entrance) for the stage. I think if people saw her in a more balanced way, they might not be so put off by her.

Josie on

She looks great in the pic above, wish she appeared in public like that more!

I also use Ivory bar soap on my face…anything else breaks me out.

Oh, Ga, take off your makeup…don’t take off your makeup. Good for you. It always amazes me that people think they can dis you or anyone like it would matter. You just go girl!

Lady Gaga needs to go back to her natural hair color. Its better than dealing with unhealthy bleached hair. WHo knew Ivory soap was so good for the skin? I’m a Dove girl myself. Proof that skin care does not have to be fancy and expensive.

Ivory soap to wash the face? I love Ivory soap (grew up on it) but it leaves such a film, I don’t know how anyone can wash their face with it.

Becky on

Screw all you haters, she’s beautiful – Perfect combination of rock’n roll and class. All this talk of ‘copying’ is nonsense, every artist is inspired by something/someone and EVERYTHING has been done before at some point. She has single handedly revolutionised pop music and it’s about time people stopped trying to bring her down – Jealousy ain’t pretty!

jess on

Gaga is far from classy. Didn’t she go to the airport in ripped up fishnets and her bra and underwear? As far as beauty….sorry Gaga, yet another word I would not associate with you. I do finally agree with you on one thing. Ivory soap.

Minniemouse on

Wow…Lady Gaga spilling her beauty secrets? Rightfully a very short article!

Lisah on

The only pretty thing about her is that she is pretty homely. Really, what does she really look like? She has to “be” someone/something every time you see her, never herself. I have read articles on her about her history and I do give her credit for going after her passion. She’s just a little too high on herself. She “ain’t all that.”

Lisah on

…one more comment…She is NO rock and roll singer. She is as bubble gum as you can get. True rock and roller female examples are Ann and Nancy Wilson and Grace Slick. Gaga doesn’t compare AT ALL.
