BEAUTY ALERT: Athlete Aimee Mullins is L’Oreal Paris’s Newest Face

Even before she was chosen as one of PEOPLE’s most beautiful people over a decade ago, athlete Aimee Mullins had already conquered the competitive world of high fashion modeling–despite a condition that has required her to wear prosthetic legs since childhood. Now Mullins has earned another coup, inking a deal as the newest global ambassador for L’Oréal Paris. “The ‘Because I’m Worth It’ tagline means a lot to me,” she says in a statement announcing her appointment. “Beauty is not skin-deep; it can be a means of self-affirmation, a true indicator of personality and confidence,” continues Mullins, who was born without fibula bones and whose legs were amputated below the knees when she was a year old to allow her to learn to walk with artificial limbs. Over the years Mullins has shown her range by shifting from track star to model, posing for Kenneth Cole and even becoming a muse to designer Alexander McQueen, whose London show she once walked in wearing intricately carved wooden prosthetics. Kate Bosworth has spent her fair time in front of the camera — even modeling for Calvin Klein Jeans ads — but that doesn’t mean she’s over the thrill of seeing a runway show. “I always love coming backstage and seeing all the models,” she told PEOPLE behind the scenes of the Calvin Klein Women’s Collection show during New York Fashion Week on Thursday. “Their makeup is always my favorite. It’s just beautiful skin. I’m always tearing pages out of magazines and saying to makeup artists. . . I want to look like this!” Other famous faces at Calvin Klein Collection included Zoe Saldana and Kerry Washington, who said of her deep purple dress, ““It’s a very royal color. I’m trying to get my princess thing on.” Women’s Creative Director Francisco Costa had royalty-worthy praise in return for his bevvy of famous beauties, saying he loves “their intelligence, their attitude, they’re quick, smart girls, they look great,” he said. “They’re all really inspiring to me.” Costa also explained the actual inspiration behind the highly-praised collection. “The collection is very textural,” said Costa. “It’s sporty, it’s fast, interesting shapes, we have dresses that flow up against the body, very close, well-fitted. And the color palate is divine, from grays and whites, all sort of desert colors, willow, chestnut.” –Jeffrey Slonim

Christian Siriano Designs a Party-Ready Collection for Spiegel

Are there no limits to Christian Siriano’s design talents? The Project Runway winner has already collaborated with brands like Puma, Payless and Victoria’s Secret Beauty, all the while maintaining his eponymous ready-to-wear line — and now he’s adding online retailer Spiegel into the mix. “They came to me and asked me if we could do a small collection…with the idea of event dressing,” he tells PEOPLE. “I have so many girlfriends who are like, ‘Oh my gosh, I have three weddings next month,’ so that was the idea. It’s a lot of great, fabulous cocktail dresses that you could wear a few times to different occasions.” Siriano’s collection, which is priced from $49 up to $599, runs the gamut from a day-to-evening suit to a classic bias-cut leopard frock. The designer’s favorite piece, however, is a black party dress (pictured), featuring pleated black chiffon on top and his trademark flounces on the bottom. “I wanted something more fun and exciting,” he shares. “That’s the signature me.” For now, Siriano’s involvement with Spiegel is limited to this 10-piece run, but that’s not to say he won’t design for the brand again in the future. “I hope we continue,” he says. “This for me was more new and fun and not so expected. It was really cool to do.” –Kate Hogan

Hillary Clinton Really Loves Her Hot Pink Purse

Hillary Clinton Talks Handbags in Harper's Bazaar
Douglas Friedman

Former First Lady Hillary Clinton might not be as lauded for her sense of style as Michelle Obama, but that doesn’t mean she can’t still go weak in the knees when it comes to fashion. “I do love a good handbag,” admits Clinton in the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar. And for the Secretary of State, a good purse can be more than a simple accessory–it can be therapeutic. “I have this Ferragamo hot-pink bag that I adore. My view was that I would carry it around only in spring, but it makes me so happy, I’m even now lugging it around in January. I mean, how can you be unhappy if you pick up a big pink bag?” –Kim Peiffer
