Emma Watson: I Need to Grow My Hair to ‘Keep Acting’

Emma Watson Growing out Her Short Hair Cut

When Emma Watson chopped her long locks last summer, it was to mark the end of her Harry Potter days — contractually, she couldn’t cut her hair while playing Hermione. But since debuting her pixie cut in August, the actress has been trying to grow the ‘do a bit — this time, to get acting roles. At the ELLE Style Awards in London last night, where Watson received the Style Icon award from Vivienne Westwood, the starlet revealed to reporters that she’s liking her extra length. “I am trying to grow it but it’s slow, it’s taking a while obviously,” she told ELLE. “If I want to keep acting then it’s more flexible for me to have it longer for different roles, it’s quite a specific cut. I’m kind of looking forward to getting to a cute little bob stage.” Though we can imagine if a director really wanted to work with the talented young star, they’d find a way to deal with the hair! Tell us: What hairstyle do you think Emma should rock next?

Hmmmm … With extensions and good wigs, I can’t imagine short hair being a problem. I’ve had super short hair and it is a pain to grow out …

Mandy on

She is so adorable. I agree with Annette about the wigs. If Emma isn’t getting jobs it isn’t because of her short hair.

I definitely think she should grow her hair again, at least to mid-length. I never cared for the super short pixie cuts or bowl bobs. I liked her with her hair long better. The same goes for Kiera Knightly. Both young women are very pretty, and both look prettier with longer hair.

Let it grow, let it grow, let it grow…

Maybe she’s not getting roles because she looks like a 13 yr old boy. Possibly a role in an oliver twist remake? I could see that.

tabitoo on

She has a role this summer. She’ll be playing Sam in “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”. Sam is described as having long brown hair and green eyes. Hair extensions and contacts will do the trick and I’m sure Emma will be great in it.

We live in a time, where women are supposed to be equal and respected and rewarded for being true to themself, yet if a woman cuts her hair or isn’t exactly like every other woman, her career is threatened. How pathetic and close minded. Yeah! Hollywood keep talking about it, but continuig to do the opposite. I refuse to go to the movies or buy music, until Hollywood actually treats women fair and doesn’t expect them to all look like twigs with long flowing locks.

For whatever reason she wants to grow it longer, She had fun with it short and now wants to try something else. She is young and cute and I think it is great that she wants to experiment with different hair lengths and styles.

Pam oliver on

Long hair or short hair she is gorgeous, these days how do any of us know who’s wearing extension or wigs, only the woman wearing them knows.

Jenna on

I agree. If Emma wants a part, her hair isn’t going to stop her from getting it!

Lisa on

I love her short hair! She looks great that way.

Mandalin on

Emma Watson can basically rock any hairstyle if she wanted to. But personally her long hair is a better look. Soo Emma, let it growwwww. (:

I don’t think she wouldn’t be getting jobs because of her haircut; like many people have said, these things called ‘wigs’ and ‘hair extensions’ work wonders. Look at Carey Mulligan. She cut her hair short, and has since had several roles: The Greatest, Never Let Me Go, Wall Street, Drive, Shame…. A hair style isn’t the reason to blame for being a one-trick pony.

Kat on

She is adorable either way!!!

canada girl on

her hair length should not affect roles in movies

Jon on

Interesting to hear, and I think Emma Watson should rock whatever hair-style she likes next and what’s comfortable for her, I hope it all works out?

Jon on

I really hope CBS 2 Reporter, Serene Branson, can return to work soon? But, I also still wonder why she slurred her speech? But, I’m glad The Doctors say she’s doing better!

Benjamin on

So, why can’t they just use wigs, or extensions?

Benjamin on

Give her extensions, or a wig?

Sandra on

She never said she wasn’t getting roles, she said it’s time to start looking for roles again!!!! Big difference. She’ll have no problem getting roles, she’s a great actress.

Charles on

The cut was a bit self-indulgent. To blame the cut on getting a role or not is a safety net.

Ticia on

She is very talented and cute…but I cannot stand her hair being so short!! She needs to grow it out! When I started modeling, I remember them saying that Hollywood and magazines prefer longer hair because it gives them more to look at and work with. And if you put wigs or extentions on her with THAT short of hair, it would look completely obvious!!

ELC on

She did a self a good service by cutting it. She looks very sophisticated. I don’t understand what her problem is….ever hear of hair extensions or
wigs. What’s the big deal. If she must…grow it
a little longer. This should not be an issue.

Love her! She’s so amazing and so gorgeous. She looks like Natalie Portman in that picture.
I don’t think Emma meant that she can’t act unless her hair is long. Leave it to the media to twist her words. No filmmaker likes to use wigs if they can avoid it. Plus, no one expected it to be short forever. I’m eager to see it in a bob-length too.

didiwags on

Grow the hair, it has looked horrible since she cut it!! And she wonders why she has not gotten any roles!!

Adam on

Sean Connory is 80% bald, but had numours movie roles including & since the hunt for red october, with a full head of hair. That is what the makeup & wig department is for. She looks great with it short.

Gabriel on

Ah, thought she wanted to quit acting recently? I agree she should grow her hair very long…she’s very sexy with longer hair.

I think you should do what you want to do, not because someone else wants you to. I think you look very nice with the short haircut. If they think your talent is great then why compremise it’s not your hair that gets the job it’s your talent.

falakjan on

I think her hair was really adorable, but she cut it. she was looking beauty full with her last hair and still beauty full with this hair cut, cause she is beauty full, and as for the directors i wanna say: you need an actress or a model? if you need an actress than no one is better than her, and if you need a model then you can find another person, if you really want her to act in your films then you must accept her with her this hair cut(looking beauty full), and as for my beauty emma: i would like to tell that please no more hair cuts until your hairs fully growing like past, then you can give the shape you want, and as for the people who don’t liked emma’s new hair cut: if you really like her, then you must accept her as she is and will be or if you just like her cause she is beauty full and a famous actress then it’s another thing. as for me: i am trying and will try to have a met with her……..

Daniel on

I like both of your hair cuts Emma. You are an adoreable and talented young lady. I hope all the best for you. Take care

I still can’t believe she cut her hair. I agree it makes her look like a little boy. She will be lucky to get any acting job looking the way that she does.

Long hair, short hair…doesn’t diminish Emma’s talents or beauty. This smart ,talented ,obviously gorgeous young lady will go far in everything she participates in.I for one wish her well.

I loved her hair that she had in the latest couple Harry Potter movies. Even when it’s straight, it’s gorgeous! I’ve always wanted to have hair like Emma’s, and I wish she’d grow it back long. Please, Emma! Grow it out again!

All of our hair is temple hair, meaning it was cut from the temple and not mixed in the process, all hair is kept aligned in the same direction. This process is very important! If hair cuticle is not all aligned in the same direction, it will start to tangle as soon as you wash it. Some hair may look very nice when you first receive it, but after a few washes it becomes dull, dry and start to tangle, you can brush all you want and the minute you stop brushing it will just tangle again and will have that “Birds Nest” look to it the minute you stop brushing it. This means that the hair is not temple hair! it is hair that has been collected from different donors, some cuticles facing up and some down, basically “LEFT OVERS” all the tangling in your hair is the effect of using cheap leftovers hair!

Emma, I’ve been having similar troubles (Prom is coming up and when I wear a dress I look like a very convincing cross dresser with Brest implants…). I really hope you find a solution but Ill admit that I feel comfort in the thought that one of my favorite witches from my childhood has to go through the same thing I do…
