Rumor Patrol: Gisele Bundchen Never Called Sunscreen ‘Poison’

02/07/2011 at 02:00 PM ET

Gisele Sunscreen Denial
INF

Gisele Bündchen is firing back at published reports that quoted her as saying she refuses to wear sunscreen. While promoting her skincare line Sejaa in her native Brazil, the supermodel reportedly claimed of SPF products: “I cannot put this poison on my skin. I do not use anything synthetic.” Reports went on to quote her as saying that her alternative is simply avoiding going out at times in the day when the sun is strongest–advice that cancer experts quickly shot down as ineffective. But a rep for Bündchen says that a misunderstanding is to blame. “They misquoted her due to a language barrier,” the rep tells PEOPLE. “Gisele would never say not to use sunscreen because she has family members who have had skin cancer.” So what did Gisele intend to express? “She simply stated that her all natural skincare line does not include an SPF product,” the rep continued. “She followed that line of questions saying she tried to stay out of the sun when it is the strongest between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.” And yes, Gisele does use sunscreen–just not harsh formulations. “When using sunscreens she selects ones that are free of parabens, oxybenzone, PABA, and retinyl palmitate,” says the rep. “She buys her sunscreen at Whole Foods, so she can find ones that are free of harsh chemicals. She says, ‘Of course I put on sun block. I don’t want to look like a shrimp!’”–Charlotte Triggs

Dumb??? Are you crazy? She is one of the smartest business woman there is. The girl breaks in $30 million every year. Yeah she is gorgeous but that alone is not enough and besides there are plenty of pretty girls from where she comes from. She is a savvy business woman.

What does it matter whether she said it or not. She’s the one that will suffer the consequences. As long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else! It’s her body, her responsibility!

In regards to a previous posting from “Amy”, the couple is married and have been married since 2009. Typically celebrities are advised not to change their names.

Marlys…Amy was referrign to Tom Brady not being married to Bridget Moynahan. Thus Bridget giving her son her last name and not Tom’s.

I find it shameful she has to “apologize” to the media and all you bitter people in the first place!!! now she can’t have opinions??? who cares what she says or does! its her life! I read way more offensive things coming from you people than I have ever heard coming from her, so chill. and no she is not a weirdo. Go on any green website/blog, they all talk/think like this.

Gisele got lost in translation. She is exuberant when explaining things. She does not mean things so literal. come on she isn’t a Harvard Scholar, nor is she trying to be! Give her a break! I read the Brazilian interviews where this first came from (no Daily mail is not the original source) and guess what. she never said this! She said she wanted a natural product so therefore she didn’t intend to put any chemical (or “poison*) as the media proclaims, SPF into her natural product. She is still waiting to find a all natural SPF, and until then this product is not used for sun protection. That is WHAT she said. There are some really bored people in the media, lol.

I still think her face looks like a foot!

I second you WriterWriter! The dumb people are those who don’t do their own research into what is in their products. If people did they probably would not use 79% of the products or foods they bring into their home.

Let me be another voice to second your opinion of SPF: IT IS POISON!

Chrissy: I agree with everything you wrote.

cut down her looks,words..etc…you guys are all more offensive than she ever has been.
