Leighton Meester on Her Latest Balancing Act

Leighton Meester Herbal Essences Portraits of Hope

Leighton Meester might be known for her daring style on-screen and off, but that doesn’t mean that every day is focused on fashion. “I like to be comfortable 90-percent of the time–and when it’s time to dress up, go all-out,” she tells PEOPLE of her style philosophy. “My inspiration is life! It comes from my family, my friends, traveling. Books, music…Love inspires me, and relationships, sex. You know? Food, fashion!” The Herbal Essences spokesperson, however, looked especially good while doing good, as she and her hairdresser Charles Baker Strahan (below) joined the brand in support of charity Portraits of Hope, which brightened up skating arena ICE at Santa Monica by painting it in children’s art. “We painted, we went skating, we ate pizza. [The kids] really were cracking me up,” says Leighton of spending her day with children from the Special Olympics and the Braille Institute. And while she tested her own artistic skills by painting alongside the children (below), not everything was smooth sailing. “I’m a terrible ice-skater,” she admitted, laughing. “I luckily didn’t fall today but it’s probably because I had a balancing act with people holding both my hands.” Learn more about Herbal Essences’ support of Portraits of Hope at their Facebook page. –Katherine Kluznik Rentmeester

Would You Wear Studded Leggings like Beyoncé?

Would You Wear Studded Leggings like Beyoncé?

Beyoncé has recently gotten into heavy metal–of the legging variety, that is. The singer was spotted making the rounds in N.Y.C. this week, looking extra-edgy in a studded E-label liquid leggings. Instead of shying away from the bold style, the singer ratcheted up the look’s volume with a black motorcycle jacket, Wildfox slogan T-shirt that reads, “Love is Everything” and her favorite Illesteva sunglasses. We’re used to seeing studs on purses, jewelry and even on jackets, but there’s something about seeing them go down the front of pants that make us a little wary of their actual wearability for those of us that aren’t international pop stars. But, hey, maybe that’s just us! Tell us: Would you wear studded leggings like Beyoncé? --Justine Harman

Bye, Bye Blonde! Lauren Conrad Goes Brunette: Love It or Hate It?

Kim Kardashian JewelryAlberto E. Rodriguez/Getty

What a colorful week it’s been! The same night that Khloe Kardashian was taking her hair from raven to red, Lauren Conrad debuted a darker do that was a distinct departure from her signature sun-kissed color. LC stepped out at CoverGirl’s 50th anniversary bash in L.A. on Wednesday with deep brunette hair touched just at the tips with subtle blonde highlights. And while this isn’t the first time the former Hills star has darkened up, the last time we saw her with anything dark, she was rocking a wig for a fashion photo shoot. We love seeing Lauren take a step away from her signature California-girl look, but we want to know what you think. Tell us: Should Lauren stick with the darker hair or go back to blonde? –Hana Choi
