EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK: Julianne Moore’s “Sensual” Ads for Talbots

Julianne Moore is no stranger to sexy ad campaigns — but this time, she’s fully clothed in an outfit from Talbots’ Spring 2011 line. Talbots’ chief creative officer Michael Smaldone says she was picked for the spring campaign because she “exemplifies everything we want as the face of the brand. She’s a very active, beautiful, soulful woman.” The ads, shot in a greenhouse by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, reflect Moore’s relationship to the 60-year-old brand: “We have this lush, traditional setting, and Julianne is in the middle of it. She’s strong, confident, and very modern. And it’s very ethereal and sensual.” Moore’s classic but playful style, Smaldone says, is also a great fit for what he calls Talbots’ “tradition transformed” platform. “We want to hold on to the classic pieces, but make them relevant to a woman today,” he says. “We’re not trendy, but our clothes are current and modern.” And Moore seems to agree, walking out of the shoot with one of the outfits from the campaign. Dishes Smaldone, “She said, ‘If this is the new Talbots, count me in!’” Check out the behind-the-scenes video, then tell us: What do you think of Julianne’s new ads?Alex Apatoff

I’ve been shopping at Talbot’s for 15 years. They may be a bit pricey but the quality is back to being A+. The clothes last for years and years and still look great. A few years ago their clothes started looking matronly and frumpy and I rarely shopped there. However they have definitely got their style act together now. Timelessness with some sass. Customer services is the best I’ve ever experienced. On one shopping trip the Talbot’s in Athens, Georgia I was waited on hand and foot. I never left the dressing room. The clerks would bring me whatever I had seen or bring clothes that they thought I might like. And even though I tried on numerous outfits, I only bought a shirt and pants that were on the sales rack (which btw the sales clerk brought me with a big smile saying “hey.. this is on sale”. They treated me like a queen even when checking out and leaving the store. That has been about 5 years ago and I still remember it. Thanks Talbot’s for making me feel special every time I shop….. but especially for that day when there were few customers in the store. We ALL got the royal treatment.

Why are so many men always sticking their nose in womens fashion?????? Why don’t they work on their own fashion?

Julianne Moore is sensual. Talbot’s clothes are not. She is making the clothes look good. Ladies… you will not look sensual in their clothes. You will just look old and frumpy.

Her real name is “julie anne smith”. her name was already taken when she joined the screen actors guild, so she combined her first two names,& used her father’s middle name as her last name. Always LOVED those legs (she has long muscle bellies in her calves) Readheads & strawberry blondes are SPECIAL.

I NEVER used to even consider Talbots . Always thought of it as old,too boring and unstylish .Then last fall I saw their leopard prints and had to have the skirt. Then I had to have the black watch plaid mohair skirt .Then the matching sweater. Damn them. They have become one of my favorites. I see only trouble ahead .

I don’t understand something: if Talbots chose Moore because she “exemplifies everything we want as the face of the brand,” then why are signs of her age photoshopped away in the photos? She’s 51 years old; is she not allowed to look her age? She’s a fantastic example of a beautiful woman over the age of 40 so I am confused about why Talbots wants to make her look like like she is thirty years younger. Is Talbots trying to say that they don’t believe that older women will sell their brand?
