Helena Bonham Carter: Why I Break All the Fashion Rules

She is brilliant! For many years I have been using unmatching color shoes! Actually at my wedding last summer, my sister tried it, and was so cool and fun to see! I hate people to tell me what to do, specially about clothing and fashion. there are already to many rules in this world we don’t need also on what we wear, as long don’t break the rules of decency.

I think there is a difference between dressing rebellious and edgy and having bad taste…this dress does not flatter her body whatsoever.

I love her; she dresses like a kid playing dress up. She appears to happy with her look; so good luck to her. I never actually thought of wearing odd shoes but why not?

I love HBC, she always looks so FIERCE doing her own thing. Why not wear different colored shoes and an elaborate dress because it’s fun? Too many people, stars or not, play it safe and boring. Rock on Helena :)

But don’t you understand…in a town of perfection, runway styles, and amazing bodies she is simply making a statement, it has nothing to do with the dress. I love her! She’s an extraordinarily talented actress, and a beautiful woman. She has it exactly right, why does everyone have to follow rules. Why not have a good time? She’s not dressing immodestly, and it doesnt hurt anyone, so I say go for it!

Fashion quirkiness is fine. But why not wear clothing that at least flatters you? It’s like she could care less about her appearance. If you are nominated for an award, the very least you could do is dress appropriately for the event that is honoring you. Blech!

She should be an example to everyone!! Individuality, people!! Break the mold. Everyone is different. Embrace it!

Eccentric and weird are two different things. Sometimes she’s one, sometimes the other.

i think she is a wonderful actress and i like that she doesnt care and is funky.

At first I thought this was a horrible outfit the mismatched shoe the hair the dress but then I realized who makes up fashion rules? and why are there fashion rules? Sure I would never wear that but it;s HER style. If she wants to dress like this let her.

This is obvious that she mismatches for attention (as does Lady Gaga and others). She gets what she is aiming for, good or bad attention. So be it.

Ok…First, I absolutely Love this dress! I think it just makes her look Gorgeous and Natural. It matches her entire style. The shoes were a bit interesting I will agree, but I love her comment on it and I completely agree. It’s crazy that like she states, there are so many rules in fashion…but funny how the fashion industry can break them all of the time, yet if someone else tries, it’s wrong. Helena, you are beautiful and a fashion icon yourself…keep it up girl! Next time wear two different socks!

Her outfit is horrendous on anyone but her. This dress defines her a person and an actress! Brilliant!

Why is it that Lady Gaga is praised for her “fashion forward” style, but she isn’t. So what if she looks messy? Don’t like it, don’t comment on it. She isn’t hurting anyone or causing bodily harm.

Gald to read that I was not the only one who like her outfit at the Golden Globes. It is nice to see someone who can pull it off, have a little wardrobe fun. Sure better than all the beige.champagne colored dresses that were washing out most everyone who wore that evening.

Good for her for not following the herd! She is awesome at what she does and has every right to dress any way she pleases.

I agree that she is rather eccentric, but I also commend her for choosing choice roles in films that are memorable (i.e. Harry Potter, Sweeney Todd, etc.) and reputable. Unlike many other actors, she doesn’t seem to have succumbed to having too much money and getting away with whatever she can. I can specifically recall several actors who are weak and unstable who fall victim to overdosing, committing adultery, etc., I have never read of Ms. Bonham Carter performing any indecent acts. Overall, I admire her sense of uniqueness, and ability to remain sane and private. So, let her dress as she chooses, at least she is not exploiting her children nor committing heinous acts at the expense of others.

I love her no matter how good or bad she dresses!

I just don’t like her. I think she acts the same in all her roles. Bellatrix Lestrange is the quintessence of HBC’s acting style and ability. As for her red carpet style – mismatched shoes are fun, however the dress looks very unflattering on her. I am sure she can do better.

In an industry that praises thin bodies and a sophisticated wardrobe, I find Helena Bonham Carter to be a breath of fresh hair. She may be very familiar with the worst dressed lists in Hollywood, but the way she dresses is PERFECT for the woman that she is. I embrace her quirkiness and individuality in a business where most people look the same. Good for her!

i just love her she is her own person and regardless of how she dresses she is just so pretty

She’s right, and she’s REAL. She’s not a phony. Love that about her. Not to mention, she’s super talented.

The woman enjoys what she’s wearing. I’ll take that over all the other starlets who are constantly uncomfortable in their clothes and starved themselves the whole week prior.

OK!!! I’m all about “breaking rules” in fashion, but wear something that makes YOU look good!!! That’s what it’s all about!!! Go crazy with the clothes and all that, but do it with CLASS and STYLE! And HBC looks tacky&cheap!!! Love her acting, HATE her clothes :(((

Ms Bonham-Carter is a breath of fresh air; a person with this much talent can wear glad wrap for all I care, why should she bow to the fashion industry? She’s obviously savy enough to know that whatever she wears is going to get her in the spotlight!!

She is a phenom actress – her hair a mess- her clothes – crazy!! but who cares- life is too short to not live a little dangerously!!!

You GO Girl! Just like there is rock and jazz and hip hop and classical music there should be style styles I see HBC and Lady Gaga, Biork, etc. as the jazz stylists. They would look wooden and we would miss something important about them if they dressed Classically.

I do not understand her fashion choice. She is a beautiful but TINY person with a terrific, compact figure. She should wear simple clingy dresses, ala Anne Hathaway, instead of dresses in bizzare colors that overwhelm her. The same applies to her hair. Messy and choppy is in, which is not particularly attractive, but high volume teasing went out by 1970. If this is her way of fashion rebellion she is doing herself a disservice.
