Emily Blunt Reveals Her Red Carpet-Ready Strategy

Fans of The Devil Wears Prada love to hate Emily Blunt‘s neurotic, die-for-fashion character; but in real life, the self-deprecating star is far from high-strung when it comes to her personal style. “I never have any idea [about what I’m wearing],” she confesses to Harper’s Bazaar UK. “I’ll look at several things and make a choice. But I’m much more excited by fashion than I was before The Devil Wears Prada.” In fact, working with stylist and designer Patricia Field on that movie changed her perception: “I could finally see how artistic and an extension of someone’s personality fashion can be.” Emily graces the magazine’s January issue, resplendent in a blue fringed Tom Ford dress, among a host of 70s glamour-inspired outfits by Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. No one would ever guess from the gorgeous multi-page spread that looking good didn’t always come naturally for the English beauty. “I used to look like a deer in headlights on the red carpet,” the straight-talking actress admits. “You step out of the car and it’s bedlam. Everyone’s got crazy eyes. Now, I have a martini before I leave – just to take the edge off it.” With two huge movies (Gulliver’s Travels and The Adjustment Bureau) to promote, we’re sure the newlywed will look radiant on the red carpet. For the full feature interview, visit harpersbazaar.co.uk, or pick up the January issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK. –-Hana Choi

Michelle Obama’s Newest Fashion Fixation: Alexis Bittar

Michelle Obama's Newest Fashion Fixation: Alexis Bittar

Michelle Obama may have a closet full of looks from Jason Wu, Narciso Rodriguez and J.Crew, but when it comes to jewelry, Brooklyn-bred designer Alexis Bittar has the First Lady’s undivided attention. Over the course of a month, Obama has been spotted all over the globe in a variety of baubles from the jeweler, whose preferred working materials include lucite and semi-precious stones. For an appearance on Barbara Walters’ Thanksgiving Day special, the First Lady punched up an all-black ensemble with an Alexis Bittar poppy pin. In the following two weeks, her admiration was in full bloom, selecting the jeweler’s $395 flower pin while on a Presidential trip to India and then again at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.! Soon thereafter, the style chameleon demonstrated her versatility with three other Bittar selections, donning a playful hand carved bee brooch on Halloween, a triple strand pearl necklace and then lucite domed button clip earrings while abroad in India. And though Bittar has a fashion pedigree—he was the 2010 CFDA recipient of “Accessory Designer of the Year”—his designs don’t have to break the bank, with pieces starting at just $95 at alexisbittar.com. – Justine Harman

Jennifer Lopez Named L’Oréal Paris Global Brand Ambassador

Jennifer Lopez to Front L'Oreal Paris Ads

Jennifer Lopez has been taking the fashion world by storm recently, whether striking a pose with her twins in the new Gucci kids campaign or teaming up with husband Marc Anthony for their Kohl’s lifestyle collection, and now the multi-talented superstar is turning her attention to the beauty business. The glam mom of two-year-old tots has signed a multimillion-dollar deal with L’Oréal Paris to be their global brand ambassador, fronting their 2011 television ad campaign, reports WWD. Her debut ad, shot in N.Y.C. last month, will focus on the brand’s EverSleek hair care products and air during the Jan. 16 Golden Globes. “What I wear and how the hair and makeup is and how I move and choose to move in the [ad] campaign says a lot for the product and what we are trying to portray,” Lopez told WWD. And while this new partnership is sure to add some extra shine to Jennifer’s superstar status, don’t expect the entertainer-turned-fashion designer to change up her signature style anytime soon. “I don’t think it’s a secret how I choose to wear and present myself with Old Hollywood glamour looks,” she tells the publication. “I’m not going to have the Lady Gaga hat on. That is not my style.” To check out behind-the-scenes clips from J.Lo’s L’Oréal shoot, visit the L’Oréal Paris Facebook page on Jan. 16 or catch the print ads in February magazines. –Jessie Goldberg

Alexandra Glen/Polaris

Since transforming into the ever-stylish Alice Cullen for her role in Twilight, Ashley Greene has had more than her own fair share of glamorous moments on the red carpet. And now, with an upcoming special on the CW, Fashion Forward: Making It, the 23-year-old is getting another opportunity to solidify her mark as a style maven. Tapped to host the one-hour, behind-the-scenes look at the ins and outs of the fashion industry, Ashley gets to dish on designers like Gwen Stefani and Justin Timberlake—an opportunity that the actress still seems surprised by. “The word fashionista has popped up a time or two which I’m very grateful for and humbled by,” the onscreen vampire told PEOPLE. “The opportunity came up and I jumped at it.” Her favorite part of the hosting gig? “It was really cool to be talking about a lot of young designers and fresh faces and forces in the fashion industry that are essentially making their mark in fashion like I’m making mine.” Tune in to the CW on Dec. 8 at 9 p.m. EST to catch Ashley run the fashion show. –Jessie Goldberg; reporting by Jackie Fields
