Royal Wedding Gown Buzz: A New Designer Name Emerges
Tom Wargacki/WireImag

Speculation has been building on both sides of the Atlantic about London designer Bruce Oldfield—suddenly rumored to be the front-runner to design Kate Middleton’s wedding gown. The reason for all the hype? Just days ago fellow British designer Ben de Lisi (a red carpet favorite of Kate Winslet’s) reportedly told UK newspaper The Daily Telegraph, “There are lots of rumors [about who will design Kate’s dress], but I’ve heard it is Bruce Oldfield.” Fanning the flames is Oldfield’s refusal to issue a complete denial. “That’s just Ben’s opinion,” his rep told the paper. Oldfield has made no secret of his desire to design Kate’s gown, telling WWD: “If I was lucky enough to be asked, I’d be delighted. I’m already dressing her peers.” And then some: The couturier spent a decade designing for Princess Diana—helping to transform her, he has said, from “a baby” to a style icon. “Kate has such a gorgeous figure that she would look stunning in anything,” says Oldfield. “I would design a simple silhouette with sufficient detailing to give it a sense of occasion, but not so much as to drown her slight frame. Her dress might be traditional and elegant, possibly even demure, but I’m sure she would want a modern twist; a nod to fashion.” –Suzanne Zuckerman; reporting by Simon Perry

THERE ARE NO ONE IN THAT COUNTRY THAT IS ROYAL ITS A BUNCH OF POARCHERS THE IDOITS THERE CALL ROYAL AND GIVE THEM EVERY THING THEY WANT

Diane on

Please stop!!!!! I’m sick of hearing about this, day in and day out!

Jon on

Interesting to hear, I hope that happens?

elisbeth on

Big time Lawyer needs to brush up on his grammer and a dictionary would help too. POARCHERS???

kim on

Oldfield designed Princess Diana’s most iconic dress–the beaded pearl dress with high collar jacket. Not surprising he’d get a look, if not a nod for “The Dress.”

Jecasm on

Big time laywer sounds to be about 14 years old and illiterate. The English and grammar sounds like he’s in an ESL class and here he is commenting about something he obviously does not understand.

Lisa on

Wow, that dress is stunning! I am a very big fan of Monique Lhuillier (I had my wedding dress designed to look like one of her ballgowns), but this is so elegant, breathtaking. I am very excited to see what dress she wears.

side note: Why do people come onto these sites, click on the article links, only to spend time and energy stating things like, “Please stop!!!!! I’m sick of hearing about this, day in and day out!” I don’t get it. Oh well, moving on…

TB on

Well Diane, you can stop reading and commenting about something you don’t care about.

Leah on

Is all this incessant speculation necessary??? We’ll know who is designing the dress when she wears it. Give it a rest! I love People but I’ve been avoiding this site because I’m so sick of hearing about this wedding. Enough!

if you don’t like to read or hear about the tune to another site. I like to see what is going on, it was the last thing I did with my grandmother before she died. It brings back happier times. I hope they live and have a wonderful life. SO if you don’t like it then do read it and stop complaining about people and others being happy.

For her ,she is young the designer i like is Monique Lowlier ,or like Chelsea Clinton ,Vera Wang full of elegance and youth the wan from that last is for more older and ordinary girl she have a place in this world not for her choice but Diana was one of the most elegant women’s in the word she will be very very elegant believed, she is very close to the Prince ,Williams, and he is like her mother beautiful and good Diana God bless her child now, Cori

Kelly on

I might be looking forward to seeing her dress more than anything else. :) I hope she puts her hair up.

If you don’t want to hear about it-cut tv/radio off. If you don’t want to read about it-don’t read it-lay paper magazine dowm. But, please stop your yapping. I would say there is 100 to 1 ratio who do want to read/hear about it.

Seriously – Big time lawyer? If that is your real occupation, our legal system is in big trouble. Unless you got your license to practice law in a box of Cracker Jack. . . . .

Angela on

I don’t understand this….why would you even click on an article about a person or story you don’t want to read or hear about? Then to top it off you make rude statements about stopping it and calling them POARCHERS, IDOITS, and the whole statement makes no sense. Obviously when they wrote the statement they didn’t realize that this has spell check embedded into the statement box! I guess they don’t know what the red squiggles mean! Enough about rude people.

Who ever designs her dress will definitely have a big load and be the most famous designer for a decades to come. I am very excited to see who designs it and what it will look like. I personally would give anything to just see the wedding and be there. But I’m not royalty and will never get the chance but I do wish them well and know Diana is in Heaven smiling at Will and Kate. God Bless them and may they have a wonderful new life together!

Big Time Lawyer is hating because Prince won’t marry him/her.

Finally a romantic and happy story! Enough of the dull coverage of the economic bailouts in that region. This is such a magical Cinderella story too! I am so glad he fell for this everyday, common girl instead of all the rich girls from Europe and America that applied to St. Andrews just because William did. I’m sure Kate had no idea and no intention of meeting a rich and powerful man! And its fantastic how the fasion industry is on top of this. I have already ordered my own blue issa, then I ordered the copy of the ring from the british history society, and I can’t wait to get my hands on clothes just like in her engagement pics! Hollywood needs to catch up! We need the movie version of this story! I say Ryan Reynolds can play William and Anne Hathaway can play Kate!

bela on

OMG Kate (previous poster)….GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!

bridgette on

hahahaha bela… kate clearly is a romantic ! :P

People Magazine goes out to many countries. This is a big thing for Canada, Britain and the other Commonwealth nations. We very much enjoy all the articles and pictures. Sometimes we have to hear a lot about things from other countries that are particular interesting to us but we don’t make rude or snide comments or put the people down. Let each have their own and live and let live.

sam on

I for one cannot wait to see them on their wedding day. The dress in the picture is amazing, I hope she chooses something like that for her wedding day.

Jacie on

I for one am excited to see her dress and I love to read about the Royal family. Prehaps its because here in the USA we do not have a Royal family, so its fun in a way to see it all. I mean all we have right now are the Obama’s and well, lets just say they will never be as interesting as the Royal family.

Patty on

I can’t wait to see what dress she’s in. She is stunning and she is probably the best thing to happen to the royal family since Diana. A nice fresh face, William is so happy, they will have a lovely wedding. Love to hear all about this!

Tifany on

If you don’t want to hear about the royal wedding, you probably shouldn’t come to this website for the next 6 or 7 months. Like it or not, the wedding is a BIG deal and some of us like reading about it!!

sharon on

If you don’t want to read about this anymore than why are you. We have libraries you can go to and a whole slew of magazines or newspapers. It’s your own fault. I think you just want somethng to complain about.

Lenett on

I guess you can get anybody to design a dress I likes the look of it but my Wedding dress looked more like a 1920’s Flapper & I wore flowers in my hair. If you have the money, do what you want with it. Thank you Lenett Merry Christmas

Amy on

This is (hopefully) a once in a lifetime thing, that deserves to be celebrated, but to a certain extent I hope this modern, civic minded couple will keep some things modest. A lot of people in the UK are having a tough time..I think it would be hard to watch a lot of taxpayer money go into it, when there are the daily struggles of paying bills.

Quinn on

Hopefully this couple will be together a long time, which would be a change from most of the royal marraiges (which are just about as successful as The Bachelor tv show pairings)

Lia on

I think Kate is trying to make a sarcastic point that love can be contrived, many people are becoming lemings over her clothes, and some people care more about pop culture than politics. Although this may be true for some people you can’t blame some people for being opportunistic and making a buck or euro. haha

Lynne on

Yes always cracks me up when losers read the headline, click on a story, obviously read the article then take time to post, “who cares?!!” Well, you do apparently!

Mary Pat on

It’s the last fairy tale we have. Our world is so brutal and frightening; those of us who want to enjoy the show are bothering anyone. Those of us who played with princess dolls remember the happiness they gave to us, I need something happy to think about. A little escapism never hurt anyone. Don’t let the door hit you on your way out!

Lola on

Big time lawyer. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA To be a lawyer, first thing is to know how to spell. You obviously do not know how to spell. You are also ignorant so probably uneducated. Go to school, get an education and look in the mirror and make some big changes and then you will be able to talk about things that you know and understand. That goes for most people on the internet who comment on everyone. So much hate. It is amazing how ignorant and uneducated people are.

Elizabeth on

If you’re not interested in the Royal wedding then skip the article and move on. Some of the posters on this site sound uneducated and very childish. If you just want to make silly, immature comments I suggest you do so at one of the Disney sites. The rest of us enjoy reading about Kate and William and look forward to watching the wedding and reading about the dress and preparations.

Catherine’s Wedding Dress Speculation Continues To Hit The British Nation
By D.K. Milgrim-Heath©2010
Catherine’s wedding dress speculation Continues to hit the British nation-
Even here in the US also is the royal wedding hype contemplation!
Who will be secretly the first to design future Princess Catherine’s wedding dress?
Several prominent names are thrown around strong nevertheless!
The beautiful lace dress example in the article photo we see-
Reminds me of my Dad in his business for his quality.
Any well known established couturier/designer knows the name of Emil Katz & Co.
My dad’s lace was used in the best designed clothes from the 1940’s up – I thought I let you know!
I found an old bridal magazine with his lace being modeled all around-
Of immense beauty where the lace was applied and bound.
My father being in the lace industry was an internationally famous iconic CEO in both America and France-
His lace is still being used internationally can it be used for Catherine’s wedding day by chance?
Growing up with magnificent lace products always surrounding me and my mother-
I’ve been told recently that quality and beauty of my dad’s lace in the 20th equaled no other!
It’s too bad the Middleton family really can’t get in touch with me-
To have famous dress designer their daughter’s dress and also with iconic internationally famous lace to be!
Whomever Catherine chooses to design her dress it’s her ultimate choice alone-
Catherine has a onetime wearing her royal wedding gown her designer’s importance really is her own.

Tina on

Prince William and his bride bring us to the fairy tale world of love and beauty.
It is amazing that this love story touches the hearts of many people.
It is sad that negative comments appear in comments’ section. Love is love, and there is nothing more beautiful and charming in this life.

Fiametta on

I hated that blue dress the late Princess of Wales is wearing in the picture, so if that’s an example of Oldfield’s designs, then I devoutly hope he is not selected. By the way, the unfortunate “Elvis” dress, with its vulgar 80’s glitz, was not an Oldfield as one poster claimed but a Catherine Walker.

Kim on

LMAO @ “big time laywer”. Sweetie, you might want to learn to spell before claiming to be a lawyer.
