What does one wear to announce her own royal wedding to Prince William in front of cameras around the world? While it would send most of us mere mortals into a wardrobe meltdown, Kate Middleton simply called upon her favorite brand Issa. The London-based fashion label has become the Brit’s go-to designer of choice over the years, thanks to her love of their elegant wrap dresses and glamorous evening gowns. Opting for one of their classic silk jersey dresses in navy (all the better to sparkle against that dazzling blue sapphire engagement ring) and simple black pumps–her look was princess perfect. As pictures of the happy couple at St. James Palace were beamed across the globe on Tuesday evening, Issa designer and Middleton friend Daniella Helayel told PEOPLE she couldn’t be happier that one of her dresses had been chosen for such a momentous occasion. “We are thrilled with the engagement news and I’m very happy that she has chosen to wear Issa today,” adding, “She is a very pretty and lovely girl.” Fueling speculation that the bride-to-be will wear Issa on her wedding day, Middleton recently wore a bespoke dress that Brazilian-born Helayel whipped up especially for her (based on a dress Middleton already had in her closet). But as dress predictions mount, we’ll simply have to wait and see. One thing we can be sure of is that a style icon is emerging and this one is here to stay. –Monique Jessen

Well, I disagree, they are very happy, if you look at the video on Yahoo and other photos, they are obviously happy, they have that giddy-grin. William is a royal and if you have ever spent time in the UK, they are more stand offish and as the heir to the throne, he has to maintain a certain poise.. Give love a chance people!!!

Prince William, bless him, is doing the expected thing, but he’s done his shopping around. He’s dated lots of gorgeous girls, put Kate on the back burner a few times, but she has waited (waity Katy) for William to decide. She wins! After all, what would you do to be the Future Queen of England?

Body language? I would defy anyone to be completely at ease knowing 1. The entire, and I mean entire, world is watching and ready to pounce on the slightest little thing and 2. Knowing that despite how you feel toward the other person, there is a history of absolute correctness that is being expected of her.
He gave her the time to decide if she is ready and willing to marry into a life that will no longer be entirely her own- that’s love, to put her first. The goals and aspirations that she may once have had could very well now go by the wayside. They acted like a royal couple in love is expected to act. Affectionate but still correct in front of others. Hard for many to understand, especially in the US, but applauded elsewhere.

Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I was wondering if anyone knows where to find this dress (unless it was designed specifically for her)? I tried looking at the Issa London website, but couldn’t find it there :(

I am so happy for them both. Kate is beautiful..both inside and out. Reminds me alot of Diana…I cant wait to watch the wedding..I know Diana is watching them and is probably happy for them both…Wonderful that he gave Kate his mother’s engagement ring..what a show of love from him!!

Can I ask a question??

Why does the ring he proposed with really matter? If you love someone, truly love someone and want to be with that person for the rest of your life…would it matter the type of ring that was used?

I understand that they are “royalty” so expectations are set a little higher for them in the rest of the world’s eyes…but in real life, they are just two normal people that are exciting about being engaged and getting married. Also, I don’t think I would of complained if my fiancé had proposed to me with a family heirloom…especially it has been one from Princess Di. Materialism seems to be what is ruling the world these days…and it is very sad.

souschef you are rude and don’t have a life if you’ve commented on this page 3 times!! so you can take your rude comments and stick them up your butt hole.

I agree with Belsey. One picture isn’t proof of questioning if his love for Kate isn’t real. There are certain expectations of the royals and whomever they wind up with. Maybe they were just nervous at the point that this picture was taken. That could be for the stiff look. I mean after all it’s the world that is watching this and getting the news and pictures. Wouldn’t you be nervous too?

let’s all email Issa London so they can bring back the dress…its GORGEOUS!!!

I think she’s gorgeous! I’ve always thought he was gorgeous! That being said, it takes more than being cute (ex: Jen Aniston and Brad Pitt) to make a marriage work. I think that they can make it work if they try.
As for the ring, I’m on the fence about that. It’s gorgeous no doubt (even for yellow gold, which I hate). However, I don’t know about having an engagement ring from a failed marriage. I know it’s more the sentiment behind it, but I probably would have preferred him to give her a ring that his mother had that wasn’t connected to her failed marriage. But that’s my opinion, and he’s not marrying me. I do think it was a lovely gesture, to give something to his future bride that was from teh mother he loved so much.
As far as her role, I don’t think that the problems in Di and Charles marriage was her overshadowing him. It was he wasn’t in love with her and cheated. No amount of Diana hiding inteh background could change that. Kate should just be herself, as that is the person William fell in love with. Dumbing yourself down and hiding your personal style is not anything I would recommend to anyone who is in a relationship.
