What does one wear to announce her own royal wedding to Prince William in front of cameras around the world? While it would send most of us mere mortals into a wardrobe meltdown, Kate Middleton simply called upon her favorite brand Issa. The London-based fashion label has become the Brit’s go-to designer of choice over the years, thanks to her love of their elegant wrap dresses and glamorous evening gowns. Opting for one of their classic silk jersey dresses in navy (all the better to sparkle against that dazzling blue sapphire engagement ring) and simple black pumps–her look was princess perfect. As pictures of the happy couple at St. James Palace were beamed across the globe on Tuesday evening, Issa designer and Middleton friend Daniella Helayel told PEOPLE she couldn’t be happier that one of her dresses had been chosen for such a momentous occasion. “We are thrilled with the engagement news and I’m very happy that she has chosen to wear Issa today,” adding, “She is a very pretty and lovely girl.” Fueling speculation that the bride-to-be will wear Issa on her wedding day, Middleton recently wore a bespoke dress that Brazilian-born Helayel whipped up especially for her (based on a dress Middleton already had in her closet). But as dress predictions mount, we’ll simply have to wait and see. One thing we can be sure of is that a style icon is emerging and this one is here to stay. –Monique Jessen

I’m happy for both of them. They appear to have a more mature relationship than Charles and Diana had. Hopefully Charles has shared some things with William (what they did wrong). Also, Kate’s family appear to have a more stable background then Diana’s family had.

Anyone notice how William resembles Diana not only in appearance but in gesture and expression?

My mother and I watched the wedding of Charles and Diana. Looking forward to seeing this wedding.
Cheers to them all.

Jennifer…thank you!! I thought I was the only one who thought that their body language was stiff and forced. It reminded me so much of his parents’ engagement announcement when Charles uttered “Whatever in love means…”

They make a beautiful couple. They look very in love and comfortable with one another. I wish them much happiness. Now if the media will let them live their lives that would be awesome but we know that will not happen.

well, Jessica tried to trump Nicks engagement, so she just got royally trumped!! back to this subject, i am so happy for prince william and kate. he has his mother’s sensibilities and i applaud him for letting kate decide if this really is the life she wants. as for the body language “expert”, their movements seem to mirror each other in perfect synch. i remember watching his parents wedding and i love all of the pomp anc circumstance. it’s just fun, lighten up all you haters! Congrats to will and kate, i hope they have a long and happy marriage together.

Nine years together and they still look at each other like they are smitten. Ain’t love grand!

I’ll raise a glass to optimism! Good luck and congrats. Kate seems more grounded and mature than either Di or that redhead were so I see some hope in seeing a Brit royal ACTING like British royalty. Hoping!

re comment from Jennifer:
you missed the language…. he took her to Africa-his very special place for years. It is a real relationship.

I am not a body language expert nor am I claiming to be a relationship expert. I am a normal person who is extremely happy for William and Kate. As with any engagement, I wish them the absolute best with their future.

Stick your yellow ring, Nancy. Being fashion forward doesn’t mean shopping at Dress Barn, by the way.
