Prince William has honored his late mother by giving his new fiancée Kate Middleton the engagement ring that Prince Charles once gave to Princess Diana. “It’s very special to me. As Kate’s very special to me now, it was right to put the two together,” William said as the newly-engaged couple faced the cameras for the first time today. The ring is an oval sapphire surrounded by diamonds. William proposed to Kate on a safari in Kenya in October, but he first asked her father for permission to propose. Michael Middleton said that he and his wife are “absolutely delighted” and “thrilled” by the engagement announcement. The wedding, which will take place in the spring or summer of 2011, is already being heralded as the biggest wedding since Charles and Diana’s. –Nadine Shabeeb

I think it is a beautiful gesture using his mothers ring. He wants to make his mother a part of their life and their wedding and is doing so with that ring! By Kate wearing that ring Princess Diana is there in mind and spirit.

No curses on a ring given that’s been prayed over & God’s blessing obtained….That shoots down all the doomsayers negative remarks. So, get on with wishing them well & giving the couple credit for making grownup decisions thinking in the positive. It honors his mom…It’s a valuable ring, and his fiance accepted it as an honor to all parties. Blessings will follow.

[...] The acknowledgment of Eliza Doolittle’s scarlet past deepens and explains her reluctance to return the love of Freddy. It is not her low birth which makes for the problematic match, for indeed, low birth can be ignored if love is true. [...]

What a beautiful gesture to give Kate your mother’s engagement ring. She must be as special in your heart as your mother is. May your years together give you many blessings. Take care of each other. Congratulations William and Catherine!

Congrats! I have tears in my eyes..I remember the day Princess Di got engaged and her wedding. She was happy and I am thrilled that Wills whom adores his mother has honored her by giving the other woman in his life that he adores her ring!! Diana chose and designed HER ring…not Charles so please people enuff w/ the “hope Kate has better luck with it” Diana LOVED the men in her life. Wills is so much like his mother..right now the Monarchy is probably trying to get ahead of Wills and Harry they have no clue what a game changer these 2 are gonna be!!!
quote from Diana’s book bio-“Diana selected a large £30,000 ring consisting of 14 diamonds surrounding a sapphire”

I’m very happy to be English today. I’m over the moon with this news and can’t wait to see the wedding. She has been heavily coached with her accent as she is not aristocracy, but I think she’s a lovely girl.

May God Bless them both with a lifetime of happiness! However, I do not believe in giving a ring worn by a mother for engagement. God forbid if the marriage doesn’t last and the woman will not give the ring back. I think that I should be given for a milestone anniversary like the 25th, I don’t care if you are famous or from a royal family. That is a big risk!

The one who should feel very honored is Kate. Prince William is a true Gentleman. A very good and intelligent man. Kate is very lucky, indeed!
Congratulations to both and I hope they have a lasting marriage.
