Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Want to Create ‘Wearable’ Clothes

Andrew H. Walker/WireImage

When Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen presented The Row’s spring/summer 2011 collection of softly structured gowns and meticulously tailored separates in Paris earlier this month, trendsetters took note, but it was the designing duo’s current fall line for the upscale label—full of elegant leathers– that got the famously shy sisters talking. “Exotic skins were a natural choice because we’ve always concentrated on the body so skin made sense,” Mary-Kate tells Dazed Digital (the Dazed & Confused website) of the assortment of beautifully cut leather and python clothes. And while the materials were exotic, the designers say it was the unique style of writer, artist and fashion icon Beatrix Ost that inspired the sophisticated cut and look of the collection. “We were discussing eccentric women and felt Beatrix embodied the feeling we were gravitating towards,” Mary-Kate says in the interview. As for their latest spring/summer 2011 collection, the duo described the soft yet tailored clothes as refined minimal luxury. “We want to create soft and comfortable collections in every way,” explains Mary Kate. But it’s not all about the luxurious feel and the materials. Some might expect the style-savvy stars to make it all about high fashion. But Ashley believes there have been too many “over-designed clothes” out there. “Our goal is to create understated, wearable, beautiful clothes that fit the body of every woman,” she says. –Simon Perry

SNEAK PEEK: Heidi Klum’s Super-Hero Halloween Costume

Marion Curtis/Startraks

Last week Heidi Klum shared just a hint of the over-the-top Halloween look she had in store this year for her annual All Hallows’ Eve celebration. And just four days before the big night, she’s unveiling the costume, which will transform her from catwalk queen to robotic superhero. Heidi’s skin-tight, red-and-purple armor was designed by the master behind the Victoria’s Secret angel wings, Martin Izquierdo, Stylist.com reports. The supermodel even kicks the ensemble up a notch–literally–with built-in stilts that will have her towering over the crowd. The only thing Super Heidi is missing is heroine hair and fierce makeup! What do you think of Heidi’s Halloween costume? Do you have your look planned?–Jessie Goldberg

Stars Give Love to a Good Cause — and Jewelry

Michael Caulfield/Getty Images

Jewelry and charity made a beautiful match this past weekend as stars gathered at a GiveLove and Everlon Diamond Knot Collection Event in Beverly Hills. GiveLove co-founders Patricia Arquette and Rosetta Getty spoke passionately of the work that the charity is doing in Haiti, but as the evening went on, stars like Debra Messing and Rebecca Gayheart turned their attention to the evening’s other big topic — jewelry. “I’m a jewelry girl,” Messing explained. Spotting a diamond ring she liked on someone across the table, she asked, “Is that Munnu? I knew it! I told you I was a jewelry girl.” For new parents Gayheart and Eric Dane, it was a chance to support a good cause and catch up with good friends, including co-host Getty. And even Maria Bello, who made a quick drop-in on the way to her son’s school potluck dinner, was gifted and wearing an Everlon Diamond Knot for GiveLove bracelet, a design that will be sold soon with a portion of proceeds going back to GiveLove. Learn more about the charity at GiveLove.org. Read more on the event in this week’s PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday. –Reporting by Jen Garcia

BFFs Kim Kardashian and Ciara Rock Identical Outfits

Ramey, Dimitrios Kambouris/WireImage

Ever loved a friend’s look so much that you duplicated it? Looks like celebs do the same thing! Kim Kardashian first rocked her full-skirted Carven black dress with her favorite Christian Louboutin leopard booties back in September while sight-seeing in Paris with her mom Kris. And Monday night, the reality star’s BFF Ciara turned up to the N.Y.C. premiere of For Colored Girls wearing not only the same dress, but even accessorizing the LBD with lookalike leopard print booties! And not only is Kim not mad about the coincidence, she took to her blog to say how funny she thinks it is, even admitting she follows in Ciara’s fashionable footsteps sometimes too! She writes, “We literally have the same taste in fashion so we’re always buying similar pieces. I think that happens when you’re really close with your girl friends.” She adds, “This isn’t the first time we’ve worn the same look, and I’m sure it won’t be the last, lol.” We’ll just have to wait and see what’s next for the stylish duo! Tell us: Do you copy looks from your friends?
