Naomi Watts Plays the Spy Who Loved Armani in ‘Fair Game’

“Valerie Plame wore Armani in real life,” Roberta Armani, designer Giorgio Armani’s niece, told PEOPLE of America’s most famous ex-spy, on the red carpet at the Cinema Society’s N.Y.C. screening of Fair Game on Wednesday. “In real life,” explained Doug Liman, who directed the film starring Naomi Watts about the former C.I.A. officer, “Valerie Plame is incredibly sexy. And you can only imagine how that sexiness would have worked in the field recruiting assets in foreign counties. So, yeah, it was awesome to put a spy in something incredibly beautiful.” Added Watts, who plays the former undercover C.I.A. operative: “To the world, she presents this very soft-spoken feminine, woman, which she is,” insisted the star. “She’s that, plus, underneath it all, she could take you out.” A spy who wore Armani? “I am an Armani fan,” confirmed Valerie Plame Wilson, looking chic in a black pantsuit from the designer. “The first time I really spoke in public was at the congressional hearing. And I treated myself to an Armani jacket, because it made me feel as confident as I possibly could.” So much so that the jacket was recreated for Watts in the movie. “On camera, the real one created a moiré pattern. But she did have pieces of Armani in her wardrobe in real life,” explained Wanda McDaniel, Armani’s executive vice president of entertainment industry communications. Watts not only shared Plame Wilson’s love of the Italian fashion house–both wore sexy Armani creations on the red carpet–but it also appeared that she adopted a similar tousled blonde hairstyle. “I realized that on the red carpet,” explained Watts. “I said, ‘It looks like I stole your hairstyle, doesn’t it?’ . . . . She does have ownership of this hairstyle.” –Jeffrey Slonim

Take note, Jamie Foxx. Kirstie Alley, who is playfully unabashed in her ongoing quest for Foxx, is even more “shag-ready”. In fact, after tipping the scales at 228 lbs. last year, the actress has dropped 50 lbs.–and isn’t looking back. “THE GOOD NEWS….I’ve lost 50 lbs!!! THE BAD NEWS…I have 40 more to go!!! …lol…..at least I’m more than half the way there!!,” she Tweeted on Oct. 4. What’s her secret? Staying faithful to Organic Liaison, the weight-loss program she launched in March, as well as finding support and inspiration from fans who took the dieting plunge with her. “Thousands have now had huge success with my new weight loss program,” Alley, 59, tells PEOPLE. “Nothing makes me happier than reading about their extraordinary triumphs…They inspire me to continue on my own journey and I am grateful for them.”  As the country’s first USDA-approved organic weight loss plan that specifically targets cravings, curbs appetites and boosts energy, Organic Liaisons will soon be available at GNC stores, the first time its been available outside of the company website, www.organicliaison.com. Two years in the making, Alley says she wanted to create a weight-loss system that doesn’t include “meals that I can keep in my closet,” she says on the Organic Liaison site. “Also one that would actually improve mine and my kids health along with shrinking my awesomely ample bottom.” As for her gradually shrinking body, Alley has perspective. Tweeting on Oct. 6: “I’m far from SKINNY….but I’m at least far from Shamu …no insult to Shamu intended.” –Elizabeth Leonard

Why Renée Zellweger Sticks with ‘Classic’ Go-To Designer Carolina Herrera

Courtesy Harper’s Bazaar

When actress Renée Zellweger hits the red carpet, she always looks the epitome of chic sophistication–like someone sprinkled her with a little old-school Hollywood fairy dust before she left the house. That someone is more often than not her friend and go-to designer Carolina Herrera, whose gowns the actress has been wearing both on and off the red carpet for years. “It’s classic. It’s beautifully tailored. No surprises,” she sums up in the November issue of British Harper’s Bazaar, on which she stars on the cover. And it’s not just a sense loyalty or fashion sense that stops the 41-year-old actress from going elsewhere. Zellweger says her upbringing in a small Texan town with conservative, hard-working parents instilled a sense of decency and frugality in her from an early age. “I can’t have 90 people making things for me that I might not wear,” she states adamantly. “To have so many people expend so much effort potentially for nothing – I wouldn’t sleep at night.” A Hollywood actress with style and a conscience? Now that’s something worth celebrating. The November issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK, is on sale beginning Thursday, Oct. 7.  - Monique Jessen
