Lauren Conrad Shares Her Fall Fashion Essentials

Stefanie Keenan/WireImage

With a reality TV series, a clothing line for Kohls, and two New York Times best sellers under her belt, it doesn’t look like Lauren Conrad is slowing down anytime soon. But the busy starlet took a break from promoting her most recent book, Lauren Conrad Style, to play October guest editor for fashion site WhoWhatWear.com, revealing some of her chic fall must-haves. Top on the Laguna Beach local-turned-Hollywood Hills fashionista’s list? “I am obsessed with these jeggings,” she says of a pair of skinny jeans from Charley 5.0. “The fit is very flattering and they have a nice color selection.” Other go-to items for the season include a pair of cat-eye sunglasses from Dior that “have a retro feel, but still look modern” and a light brown leather belt, which she says make any outfit “feel more daytime.” But when the stylish reality star wants to dress up, she opts for a classic look. “I really love any feminine detailing on a dress. The bow on this one makes it sweet, but still chic,” she says of a white Paul & Joe one-shoulder dress. To see all of Lauren’s top fashion picks, visit WhoWhatWear.com. –Jessie Goldberg

‘Private Practice’ Star Amy Brenneman Debuts Dramatic New Hair

Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty

After battling a chronic intestinal disease that led to a shocking weight loss and then surgery, actress Amy Brenneman has bounced back and is showing off a pixie-inspired hairdo that is equal parts inspiration and necessity. “My hair was looking so weird, and it was growing back out in such bizarre different lengths,” the Private Practice star told PEOPLE while attending the Healthy Child Healthy World Gala in Los Angeles, “so it was either this style, or I become an Orthodox Jewish woman and wear a scarf on my head!” While her new look isn’t as drastic as a change in faith, it’s definitely one that required a leap of faith, which the 46-year-old actress took with an eye on a certain Big Love actress. “That Ginnifer Goodwin, she really inspired me!,” she said. “She is so cute with that short, short hair.” Though it’s still relatively new for her, Brenneman feels as if she’s mastered the most important rule of being a woman with short hair. “The one thing you have to remember,” she said, laughing, “is that you have to wear lipstick so that you don’t look like a seventh-grade boy.” Despite the potential pitfall of being mistaken for Justin Bieber, Brenneman admits that the short cut has had a positive effect on her self esteem, an aspect of her personality that took a serious blow while she battled Ulcerative Colitis. “It actually makes me feel more feminine somehow,” she said, “and even more young. I’m digging it!” Tell us: What do you think of Amy’s new do? –Reagan Alexander

Why Zoe Saldana Loves Leather, Dramatic Dresses and Prabal Gurung

Courtesy MaxMara

Zoe Saldana is certainly no stranger to the spotlight, having had more than her fair share of glamorous red carpet moments. So when it comes to getting ready for a chic night out, who does the sultry Avatar star turn to? “I tend to go with more dramatic designers, Givenchy, Alaia, Christian Lacroix and Calvin Klein,” the New York-born actress says of her red carpet style in a new interview with fashion blog MyFDB.com, which Zoe Tweeted on Thursday. The style-savvy star says her proudest fashion moment came at the Oscar’s where she donned a Givenchy gown, calling it “the most amazing dress I have ever worn.” And while Zoe’s list of go-to designers contribute to her impeccable sense of style, the actress hasn’t ruled out creating a collection of her own, more specifically a line of dresses with close pal Prabal Gurung. “I am in awe of the way he has carried himself and his designs recently. It would be amazing to collaborate with him,” she says. But when Zoe isn’t hitting up high-profile events or fronting Calvin Klein’s sexy Envy ads , she is playing it casual in some of fall’s hottest and most vesatile trends. “I’ve been really into the leather jackets. My favorites are my L’Agence and a linen olive green Max Mara jacket,” she says. To check out Zoe’s full interview, visit MyFDB.com. –Jessie Goldberg

Carey Mulligan or Keira Knightley: Whose Premiere Style Do You Prefer?

Photoshot/iPhoto; Anthony Harvey/PictureGroup

At last night’s premiere of Never Let Me Go during the 54th annual BFI London Film Festival, two of Hollywood’s most notable and fashionable ingénues showcased their very distinct styles. British beauty Keira Knightley channeled Old Hollywood, sparkling in an intricate beaded Chanel Couture number with pearl draped sleeves, hip cut-outs and a dangerously low back that nearly exposed her derriere. She finished off the look with sky-high black platform heels from Charlotte Olympia. Meanwhile, steady style standout Carey Mulligan opted for a more graphic take on red carpet glamour, dazzling in a white crepe de chine Vionnet halter dress with multicolor pleated inlays that she paired with gold patent Giuseppe Zanotti sandals. And while Carey’s ombré pixie cut was twisted into a messy updo, Keira’s tresses were coiled into gossy waves. Tell us which look you prefer: Keira’s sophisticated elegance or Carey’s avant-garde styling? - Justine Harman

Anne Heche, Kelly Rutherford and More Celebrate MNG by Mango for JCPenney

Johns PkI/Splash News Online (2)

Surrounding an M-shaped catwalk, fashionistas like Anne Heche, Kelly Rutherford, and Tinsley Mortimer took in a more budget-friendly fashion show in Manhattan Tuesday night.  Celebrating the launch of MNG by Mango for JCPenney, Heche certainly gave her stamp of approval for the European brand’s collaboration with the department store.  “Honestly, I thought all the looks were pretty terrific,” the Hung actress told PEOPLE, “chic and fun, but elegant.  You want to have fun when you’re dressing.”  Even The Real Housewives of New York City star Alex McCord has found herself straying from her self-described “I-love-Cavalli- world” to embrace some stylish, affordable pieces from the collection:  “I was wearing some of the MNG line this weekend when we were in the Hamptons and getting a lot of compliments,” she said.  With a diverse selection of wardrobe staples from work ready slacks to day time dresses and winter ready blazers, it’s no wonder that the line is quickly drawing fans.  Check out the collection at your local JCPenney store or jcpenney.com.  –Shruti Dhalwala
