Mick’s Daughter Georgia May Jagger on Needing ‘a Bum’ to Model Jeans

Hedi Slimane for Harper’s Bazaar

When your parents are Rolling Stones rocker Mick Jagger and supermodel Jerry Hall, it should come as no surprise that Georgia May Jagger has quickly become something of her own force in the fashion world. The 18-year-old, who appears in the November issue of Harper’s Bazaar, has already fronted a beauty campaign for British brand Rimmel cosmetics, walked down Chanel’s resort runway, and appeared topless in sexy ads for Hudson jeans—a move that the model says was supported by her parents. “My mom did a lot of provocative work with [renowned fashion photographer] Helmut Newton. She understands,” Georgia tells Harper’s Bazaar. “I didn’t think that it was going to be on giant billboards everywhere. I’m sort of like, Oh, God!” But modesty aside, the British beauty says her mother’s four-decade long modeling career has served as a source of inspiration for her own endeavors in the industry. “When mum was first modeling, it was all about that Thierry Mugler woman with the tiny waist and the giant a–…it’s much sexier,” she tells the magazine. “I model jeans. You need a bum for those.” The rock royalty heiress has now set her sights on design, expanding her role with Hudson to launch Hudson by Georgia May Jagger, due out in March. And with her mom’s vintage men’s Wranglers serving as inspiration for the line, she can’t go wrong. “And I have to say Guns N’ Roses really inspired them as well.” For the full interview with Georgia, visit harpersbazaar.com–Gillian Koenig

Mary J. Blige’s Favorite Fashion Accessory: Designer Sunglasses

Charles Eshelman/FilmMagic

Mary J. Blige is famous for her voice, but the nine-time Grammy Award winner has another passion—sunglasses. “I have probably 1000 pairs of sunglasses,” Blige said at the Annual Gotham Magazine Gala on Thursday. “If you look back at my history you’ll see me with glasses, lots of shades from Chanel to Christian Dior to Gucci.” The singer recently debuted a new line of eyewear called Melodies by MJB, which she is promoting while on tour. “Sunglasses are an extension of me, just like the fragrance I did is an extension of me,” she says. “I only do things that I know, that I’ve done for years.” And though the singer loves shades, she doesn’t want any for the holidays. “I don’t want anybody to give me gifts,” Blige says. “I’m really not gonna be big on gifts this year. I’m gonna give gifts, but … it’s a hard time to try to get something out of people right now.” — Nadine Shabeeb

Old Soles: New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg Has Only Six Pairs of Loafers

Brian Killian/WireImage

While most of our houses might fit into the closets where The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills store their shoes, Michael Bloomberg, New York’s low key billionaire mayor, has only six pairs of loafers! During a speech at QVC’s FFANY shoe sale event on Wednesday, Mayor Bloomberg joked, “A story emerged recently that shocked many in your industry, leaving them confused, perplexed, maybe even a little bit hurt. I’m talking about the stunning revelation in the September 20th edition of the New York Post, that I, Michael R. Bloomberg, 108th Mayor of the City of New York, may not have purchased a new pair of work shoes in ten years…if it’s in the Post it must be true.” So when PEOPLE encountered the thrifty mayor the next night at the Empire State Pride Agenda fall dinner, we had to ask if the story in the Post was true.“You have to talk to my press secretary who made up the story,” said Mayor Bloomberg with a smile. So does he actually have a lot of shoes? “Yeah, I do probably have half a dozen pairs, but it is true. I probably only wear one black and one brown and that’s about it,” he said. “I’d love to tell you I’m a big fashionista,” admitted the Mayor. “But it was really embarrassing, Ken Cole [shoe designer Kenneth Cole] happens to be a very close friend of mine, and I was with him the night before [the article appeared].” — Jeffrey Slonim
