UPDATE: Katy Perry Rocks Faux Indian Bridal Nose Ring

10/21/2010 at 03:20 PM ET

INF

No one would ever suspect Katy Perry — she of the Oompa Loompah nails, multi-color hair streaks and circus-themed dresses — of being a classic bride, but the soon-to-be Mrs. Russell Brand is turning expectations upside down, and already gave a nod to Indian bridal tradition as she landed in Jaipur on Wednesday for the big day. The California Girl arrived at the airport wearing A-Morir “Darcy” sunglasses, which give the illusion of the nose ring that Indian brides traditionally wear throughout their wedding day until the groom removes it that night. While Katy and Russell have proved to be anything but a reserved duo in the past, even hinting at a clothing optional wedding, could this be their hint at incorporating traditions into their big day? Only time will tell…–Jessie Goldberg

I am Indian and I am puzzled as to why Katy and Russell would want an Indian wedding..a wedding here is very auspicious occasion and I hope they actually understand what it means.

Interesting!

Kairy, Who are you to judge someone’s usage of a word. Pot/Kettle?

Actually, Crystal did use the term “auspicious” correctly…not sure why you are responding like that to her on that…I don’t think she is judging anything…just confused as she is an Indian and know these customs.

Kairy, One would hope that any marriage would be auspicious — so it can be used to describe an occasion such as this. I think you might refrain from playing the English coach.

The Indian culture is very beautiful and I think they just want to celebrate their love that way. I don’t think anything is wrong with that just as long as they’re respectful to the culture.

It looks like its hooked to her glasses & not a nose ring.

Jennifer, that’s what it looks like to me too…but like Erica says..why not have the weddding they want? I doubt it will be completely Indian, just having hints of the culture mixed in with their own individual cultures…they are simply celebrating their love in the country where it began…nothing wrong with that. I think it’s romantic and sweet!
