Crystal Renn’s rise to the top of the fashion industry isn’t slowing down. First, the plus size model, who documented her years suffering from anorexia in order to work in the fashion industry in a memoir Hungry in 2009, broke down barriers in New York City, walking in Zac Posen’s ZSpoke show last month. Now, she’s burning up Paris, walking in Zac Posen’s ready to wear show, as well as walking the runway for major labels Jean Paul Gaultier and Chanel. “This has been one of the most amazing times of my life,” Renn, 24, tells PEOPLE on the phone from Paris. “I’ve done one show before, usually as a special guest, but to be working this much is incredible.” For Renn, who walked in Jean Paul Gaultier’s 2006 fashion show at a size 12, being treated as one of the pack, not as “the plus size model,” is “a real breakthrough,” she says. “I’m here being treated like any other girl. It doesn’t matter my size. It doesn’t matter who I am. I’m going on castings like everybody else.” Though Renn is now a slimmer size 10, she says she’s still “different from most of the girls at the castings,” but acknowledges that there is more diversity on the runway these days. “When I first started, the girls were all blonde, all emaciated and miserable looking,” she says. “Now, there’s more ethnic diversity. The girls are not as skinny as before. You do see size 6s and a couple size 8s. There is change happening in the industry. There is more allowance for people to be different. I’m so impressed. I can’t wait for next season.” – Charlotte Triggs

Marilyn Monroe was a vintage size 16, not a 16 in modern sizes. God, I get so sick of hearing people say that. She weighed between 115-120 pounds and was 5’5″. She was NOT a modern 16.

The fact that this tall woman, who wears a size 10 is considered plus sized tells you just how sickening the fashion industry has become. People like Anna Wintour and her skeletal frame are what push the damn near dead look. This is a beautiful young woman and thank goodness she has overcome the need to be stick thin to fit in.

i don’t believe she is a size 10! whose collar bones look like that at size 10?

Donna on

There is NO way this girl is over a size 6 or 8.
She is rail thin. Plus size, what a joke. This world is sad sad sad when they call a girl like this plus size. Wake up America this girl is thin and no where near heavy!

It is very sad to me that she is considered “plus sized”. When I hear plus sized I think of a voluptuous woman with curves and some meat on her bones, not her collar bone sticking out. She is very beautiful dont’ get me wrong, just shouldn’t be considered plus size. There really shouldn’t be a differentiation between “models” and “plus sized models”. They should all just be called models.

Since when is that a plus size??

She is gorgeous!!!! she really is. And its funny that 10 is considered plus size. I think she is beautiful and healthy. It’s so nice to see someone on the runaway who doesn’t look like a skeleton.

i am a size 14/16…there is no way on earth she is a size 14! no way!!! and plus size…i get irritated just seeing her referred to as plus size.

This is pathetic. Don’t report on plus size models if they are literally TINY.

Dumb.
