Crystal Renn’s rise to the top of the fashion industry isn’t slowing down. First, the plus size model, who documented her years suffering from anorexia in order to work in the fashion industry in a memoir Hungry in 2009, broke down barriers in New York City, walking in Zac Posen’s ZSpoke show last month. Now, she’s burning up Paris, walking in Zac Posen’s ready to wear show, as well as walking the runway for major labels Jean Paul Gaultier and Chanel. “This has been one of the most amazing times of my life,” Renn, 24, tells PEOPLE on the phone from Paris. “I’ve done one show before, usually as a special guest, but to be working this much is incredible.” For Renn, who walked in Jean Paul Gaultier’s 2006 fashion show at a size 12, being treated as one of the pack, not as “the plus size model,” is “a real breakthrough,” she says. “I’m here being treated like any other girl. It doesn’t matter my size. It doesn’t matter who I am. I’m going on castings like everybody else.” Though Renn is now a slimmer size 10, she says she’s still “different from most of the girls at the castings,” but acknowledges that there is more diversity on the runway these days. “When I first started, the girls were all blonde, all emaciated and miserable looking,” she says. “Now, there’s more ethnic diversity. The girls are not as skinny as before. You do see size 6s and a couple size 8s. There is change happening in the industry. There is more allowance for people to be different. I’m so impressed. I can’t wait for next season.” – Charlotte Triggs

Can we PLEASE get a real plus sized model who is healthy and happy at a 16 or 18 or 20? Ok 20 is pushing it but seriously – I would love to be a 10 again! That is not plus sized!

“Plus size model”?? What?!?!
She’s very pretty and looks good any size but please give us a break this girl is not big at all, probably more realistic though than other models on the runway these days. Whatever happened to real model looking WOMEN like Cindy Crawford – true beauty.

Normal on

ALL models should look this way . . . the industry is an unreal, uhealthy place. This model is healthy, strong and beautiful! Please, designers and agencies, listen to the people and let your models be healthy!

I would like to know how tall she is. A size 10 on me 5’2″ is very different than a size 10 on someone 5’9″. I am appalled that they refer to her as plus size. She is normal! Why don’t we call her that!

Seems people are just making things up to justify their personal issues. CR is a size 10. She was considered plus sized when she was a size 14. Monroe was a size 12 at a time when size patterns were defined differently. What was once a 12 is now an 8 or 10. The size definitions were changed when designers realized that women bought more when they thought they were a smaller size. The average woman is around 5’5″ and a size 12. That is not a healthy weight for that height. Have a great day everyone!

so redic…marilyn monroe was NOT a 16 in current size standards. go do some research into retro fashion and you’ll see that clothing sizing was vastly different back then. she was more like a current size 4-6.
anyway, no this should not be considered “plus sized” however it is for the fashion world.
also, another thing to remember…most of the male designers out there today are gayer than a maypole and what do they like? young boys. what do their models all look like? young boys…think about it.
