She may be headlining one of Broadway’s most popular shows, but In the Heights star and American Idol winner Jordin Sparks had practicality in mind when creating her first scent, Because of You. “When I was starting this project, I really wanted it to be affordable,” she tells WWD. “I looked at some other celebrity fragrances, and they were like $80. Even now, I look at a fragrance that’s $80, and I can’t bring myself to spend that much,” Sparks explains. “In this economy especially, my fans deserve a high-quality, reasonably priced scent.” Set to hit counters next week, Because of You will retail at an introductory price of $9.50 for a 2.5-oz. bottle before jumping to $14.95 on Nov. 1. The “fruity floriental” scent has top notes of clementine, white imperial currant and orange blossom; a heart of nectarine, sharry baby orchid and coral charm peony, and an undertone of sheer musks. “I wanted it to transfer easily from day to night,” Sparks tells WWD. And while this may be her first foray into fragrance, Jordin has big beauty plans in mind for the future, hoping to eventually do color cosmetics and skin care. In the meantime, fans can look forward to picking up Because of You at dots.com or Dots stores next week, before it hits Target stores in early November! –- Hana Choi

Is there anyone out there who can honestly say “oh, good, just what I’ve always wanted, to smell like Jordin Sparks”? I don’t get celebrity designer (?) fragrances; I have a frequence that I’ve worn for 25 years and it’s “my” signature fragrances. Who cares about someone else’s?

When somebody’s career needs a boost, voila, its “Oh, I think need to launch my own personal fragrance, because thats just what the world has been waiting for!” Pfff. Its headed for your local Kohl’s store.

Jordin’s career is taking a plunge. Poor management destroys talent in the long run. Best of luck Jordin, why would someone want to smell like you?

good for her. Making it inexpensive so that real people can afford it. I wish more of the celebs were like that.

That’s great to hear, good luck to her! And, happy belated 28th Birthday goes out to Punk Rocker, Avril Lavigne, and it’s nice to hear what she wanted for her birthday & got!

What is wrong with people today, gee if you are not putting someone down then you cannot say anything else about them! I think this young lady is very smart by branching out into different things. I say great Jordin! By the way she is also working on another album while appearing in “The Heights” on Broadway. Also, I would not say she has plunge when she has sold over 9 Million records. Jordin Ranks#4 in Sales of all of the American Idols! 1. Clarkson, 2. Underwood 3. Daughtery 4. Sparks…….You pepole that say such negative things REALLY need to check out their facts first!!

It’s a reasonable price for a x-mas gift I suppose. Oh, and the duet she did with Chris Brown was “No Air”.

Oh, and it’s so nice to see “Jon” back out here, flogging other sites on People!!! Cuz of course we such idiots we couldn’t figure that out. So insulting.
