Ryan Reynolds on His New Role: ‘I Definitely Did Not Look Good’

Lionsgate

Ryan Reynolds is no stranger to hard-core fitness regimens, having even revealed that to get in superhero shape for next summer’s Green Lantern, “You spend one day a week eating what you want and the other six days eating drywall and wood chips.” His latest role in the white-knuckle thriller, Buried, in which he plays an American in Iraq who awakens finds himself 6-feet underground in a coffin, required no such diet and fitness routine. “Um…I’m in a coffin. Why would I have to get buff?” the actor deadpanned at the film’s Cinema Society and 2(x)ist screening in N.Y.C. on Thursday night. When he emerged at the end of the 17-day shoot, spent entirely in a box the size of his 6’2′ frame, “I definitely did not look good,” Reynolds told reporters. “I’d seen better days. I looked a lot like Don Knotts. If you know who that is, that explains it.” –Suzanne Zuckerman

Who Wears His Pink Blazer Better: Kanye West or Johnny Weir?

Jim Celeste/PatrickMcMullan.com/Sipa; Jennifer Graylock/AP

A flair for drama, a history of verbal tussles with fellow stars, a love of fashion — maybe ice skater Johnny Weir and hip-hop superstar Kanye West have more in common than one might think! Certainly, their sartorial interests aligned during N.Y.C. fashion week as they both turned up at shows in the past several days sporting hot pink blazers. Kanye picked his sleek pink jacket for a day of shows, ranging from Tory Burch’s presentation in the morning to 3.1 Phillip Lim’s womens show in the evening. As for Weir, he turned up the next day in his fuchsia blazer at the Isaac Mizrahi show, but he paid homage to a different designer entirely with his Karl Lagerfeld cartoon T-shirt slipped underneath his raccoon-adorned jacket. Although we think both Johnny and Kanye wore the hue well, who do you think successfully pulled off pink? Tell us: Who wears his pink blazer better? Kanye West or Johnny Weir? –Jessie Goldberg

WATCH: Betty White Makes the Tough Fashion Calls

Betty White is now adding a new title to her name: Fashion drill sergeant. With the launch of “The Betty White” limited-edition collection for Jerry Leigh Apparel, a line of hoodies and T-shirts—priced from $48—comes a promotional behind-the-scenes video featuring our favorite Golden Girl hard at work in the business of fashion, and being anything but polite. Watch as a tracksuit-clad Betty rolls up in a sports car and gives her manufacturing team a lesson in hardball management. “If I ask you to sew, you say how fast? And if I ask you to iron, you say how hard,” she quips. But at the end of the day, Betty just wants to spread the love. “When you buy a Betty White product, you get so much more than just fabric and thread, you really get a little part of my heart,” she says. Watch this not-to-miss video or visit hoodiebuddie.com to make Betty White a staple brand name in your closet — and help support the Morris Animal Foundation, which receives a portion of the proceeds from the line’s sales. –Jessie Goldberg

Katie Holmes: The Perfect Calvin Klein Girl

Patrick Mcmullan/PatrickMcMullan.com/Sipa

Calvin Klein Women’s Creative Director Francisco Costa and actress Katie Holmes seem to have quite the long-standing fashion crush—and nowhere was the mutual style admiration more evident than at the stunning Calvin Klein Collection spring show Thursday afternoon. “We met her before she was married,” said Costa. “She’s the perfect Calvin girl,” he added, explaining how his clothes look on her tall, modelesque figure. Holmes, who flew in from Toronto to join Julianne Moore, Kerry Washington and Isabel Lucas in the front row at the N.Y.C. show, told PEOPLE: “I just loved it. There were so many pieces I would love to have. He did an amazing job…I loved the simplicity. I loved the colors he’s chosen, the fabrics and his simple elegance.” Holmes, clad in a belted, cream-colored Calvin Klein dress, shared a quick hug and kiss after the show with Costa. The designer then turned his attention to the collection. “It was more about the body, the fabric, and obviously interesting cuts,” he said. “The new field for me is softness, and making that very sharp and crisp, which is much more difficult. It was challenging, fun, much more fluid, elongated. We started in resort with that mid-calf length…so it was a step forward.” So was Holmes, who co-designs her own line of clothes, inspired? “Very!” –Jeffrey Slonim

‘Jersey Shore’ Guys Get Pumped for GQ Gym Makeover

Courtesy GQ

While the nation has become obsessed with their antics and GTL (Gym, Tan, Laundry) routine, the guys of MTV’s Jersey Shore are rarely lauded for their fashion sense. Bravely ditching their preferred uniform of Christian Audigier tees and acid-washed jeans, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio and Vinny Guadagnino get a makeover in the October issue of GQ. But lest you fear that the guys have ditched their roots, the shoot puts them squarely in their comfort zone — the gym. In sleek outfits from designers such as Dolce & Gabbana and Burberry, the guys show off their famously sculpted physiques — and egos. Pauly D. brags: “I look at the trainers at the gym, and I look better than them.” To check out more of the guys’ transformation, visit GQ.com. –Justine Harman

First-Ever Plus-Size Show Hits N.Y.C. Fashion Week

Paul Morigi/WireImage

It wasn’t all stick-thin models ruling the runways during New York Fashion Week, as curvy stars like Nikki Blonsky, Gabourey Sidibe, model Emme and KayCee Stroh sat front row yesterday to take in the first-ever plus-size show during fashion’s most high-drama week. “This is a milestone in the plus-size community. We’ve never had anything like this,” Blonsky said at the OneStopPlus.com presentation on Wednesday. “To be in New York City Fashion Week, which I think is the biggest fashion week in the world, to be here is just a huge thing for us.” And plus-size model Emme, couldn’t have agreed more: “You have to join forces to make a statement and to be part of a revolution. It’s monumental in its reach,” Emme told PEOPLE, adding, “I think the big statement that’s going to be made with this fashion show is not only going to be made within the full-figured community but I think it’s going to talk to the bottom line of design houses, designers, and business people involved in fashion,” she said. “Why don’t we make clothes above a size 12? Why don’t we load heavier in sizes 14, 16, and 18 in stores? Just change the buying style and let it be curve-friendly in the line.” See all the looks from the runway show at InStyle.com. –Katherine Kluznik Rentmeester, reporting by Thailan Pham
