Julianna Margulies Named the Newest Face of L’Oréal Paris

09/24/2010 at 03:00 PM ET

Charles Eshelman/FilmMagic

It looks like Eva Longoria Parker, Penélope Cruz and Beyoncé will need to make a little room, as award-winning actress Julianna Margulies joins their ranks as the newest face of L’Oréal Paris. “I remember the first time I heard [“Because You’re Worth It”]. I was young, and I said to myself, ‘When I have money, I will buy beautiful products and feel I’m worth it,’” The Good Wife actress tells WWD. And years later that dream has come true in grander reality than she envisioned, with her own deal representing the brand’s RevitaLift skincare line. As for the feature that got Julianna the coveted gig? “I always have considered my skin [my best beauty asset] because I got lucky: I have small pores,” the 44-year-old actress says. “I am also very pale so I have stayed out of the sun most of my life.” Julianna’s ads will debut next year in a print and television campaign. As a very dark skinned black woman
its offensive that yet another white
skinned woman has been chosen
to represent beauty in this country.
What does that say to all the
ethnic minorty girls out there?

That they dont have the right kind
of look to be considered pretty.
Is that a healthy mindset for them??

Personally I recommend
OIL OF OLAY- SENSITVE SKIN WASH CLOTHS
and BODY SHOP beauty products.

Nikki on

@Sherly Did you miss the rest of the article which mentioned Eva Longoria Parker, Penélope Cruz and Beyoncé as being the other faces of L’Oreal? They are from different ethnic groups or do they not qualify? I happen to have 6 different ethnic groups in my immediate lineage and I’m pale but I’m sure you’d say that I wouldn’t qualify either.

Jess on

Very cool. Congrats to her. She’s certainly beautiful. She’s one that no matter what her makeup or hair is or even if it’s just a casual paparazzi picture, I always think when I look at her, she’s so pretty, before I even notice what she has on.

Ellie on

@sherly…and it’s people like you who just have to go and ruin everything but just blathering away in ignorance. you obviously can’t read anything aside from the title of the article or you would have, obviously, realized that 3 other women were named as already being faces of L’oreal. Beyonce is black, Eva Longoria Parker is a mix of Spanish, Asian and African, and Penelope Cruz is obviously Spanish. Three non-white women who are “representing beauty to all the ethnic minorities”. do us all a favor and just stfu.

Tammy on

Awesome choice, love her. can’t wait for the ad’s to come out.

Jon on

I think L’Oreal Paris’s new addition is great, best of luck to her! Also, congrats to Emily Deschanel on getting married!

skye on

@sherly – read the article first before making any comments moron!!!!!!

dsk on

@skye lol!! thank you – remember people – BEFORE you jump on the race discrimination wagon, make sure you have the facts.

Deborah on

excellent-She is beautiful
as far as the black vs whie comments aren’t there beauty mags for dark skinned women—Neither race can relate to the same make up……it is that simple

Jules on

@Sherly
you should have read the article before you made any judgements! First of all, black people are only 5% of our country, so yes they should have reresentatives in makeup but white people are wayyyy more dominant! get your facts straight!

Mimi on

Julianna is a natural beauty, not botoxed to stiffness, nor surgically enhanced. I like that she has laugh creases around her eyes and a beautiful smile. I’ve been a big fan for years and it’s lovely that at 44, she’s an icon.

Dinah on

Come on now, Sherly. Get a grip. I can think of two more beautiful women who represent cosmetic brands, beside Beyonce, Eva and Penelop…..

How about Halle Berry, who represents Revlon and Queen Latifa, who represents Cover Girl (wasn’t it Brandy before her, or was that for Maybelline?)

So the first time we have a Caucasion girl representing this brand in a long time and you want us to feel guilty or shamed for it?

Wake up, smell the coffee and get out of bed, Sherly, it’s nearly 2011.

Amanda on

@Sherly… not racist are you??? Geesh. Before you make your remarks, first- read the article. Second- remember that ignornance is bliss– and you’re about as ignorant as it gets. Good for Julianna!!!!

why do people always have to play the race card!!! I am a mexican american woman and I could care less who they picked. Great for Julianna! You go girl!!

Ana on

Sorry for saying this, but what race do you think spanish people is? Penelope is caucasion, not latin, we are from Europe, it seems you really don’t know were Spain is….

islandgirl on

I’m so tired of the racist comments like Sherly’s here. Spouting and whining about ‘another white’ woman in advertising doesn’t sound like racism to you??? Of course it is, you are yourself just what you say you dispise….want to see the face of hate……look in the mirror my dear.
We are all moving on and maturing I believe to see all races beautiful and to be admired……beauty is beauty no matter what race or color……..and it comes from within and shows outwardly. All of the women mentioned in above advertising are loving women first, accepting, generous and realize we are all one……..not separate. Can we please just stop looking at differences and embrace and honor beauty in all it’s forms, physically and within, when we see it ?
Love the other posts here that point out that lots of different women of all races and sizes are being used in advertising and I say ‘hooray’ I love strong, mature, positive role models being portrayed at last.
Here’s to women who have wisdom and maturity that shows on the outside too……..

ELLIE on

THEY COULD NOT HAVE PICKED A MORE BEAUTIFUL LADY.I SURE HOPE THE ADDS COME OUT REALLY SOON, AS I AM DYING TO SEE THEM. JULIANNA WILL KNOCK ALL THE OTHERS OFF THE BLOCK.

Sherly on

I apologise …unfortunately I make

I’m looking forward to the color of products she uses because I’m an extremely pale skinned person as well.

Don’t think anyone who reads People
actually know the lengths that women
of color around the world go to lighten their beautiful darker skin.

Just so they can look like Eva or Beyonce

Its true some of us are racist
if we only mix with our own
kind because we are not accepted by
people of a differing group or culture.

We may not have friends of a different
race so yes

we are racist.

kg on

@Sheryl – It’s interesting when you said “Don’t think anyone who reads People actually know the lengths that women of color around the world go to lighten their beautiful darker skin”, I immediately thought of the outrageous number of women (and men) that tan (either by natural means or tanning beds) to have a darker skin tone irregardless of the fact that they more than likely will develop skin cancer. Beauty is all in the eyes of the beholder. Personally, I like the fact that her “smile lines” (as I like to call them) have not been airbrushed out. I just hope L’Oreal doesn’t go to great lengths to airbrush them in all of her advertisements.

Lola on

Another person who thinks cause she is black that the world owes her something. Were all the ethnic celebrities they used not good enough for you cause they werent exactly your shade?

islandgirl on

sherly,

You ARE beautiful, know that and put that out when you go about your day. Greet all with a smile and loving thoughts and you will find most will return those positive vibes right back to you and if not you have provided a service to them by showing how we should all interact with each other, no matter our color or race.

Another thing, don’t feel different, don’t act different, be yourself, be confident in who you are…….a glorious, georgeous child of God, as we ALL are………after all WE ARE ALL ONE and we should all act like it !!

Sending loving thoughts your way,
Cheri

Beauty of the Generations Has its Pages
By D.K. Milgrim-Heath©2010
Beauty of the generations has its pages-
In magazines, newspapers as it ages.
For the 20 year olds and others ages up-
There’s more to life now by the older woman–it’s great enough!
I being in my fifties can sometimes find-
A person in the 40-50’s still beauty’s present in body and mind.
Of course there’s the photos magazines do enhance-
But there’s natural beauty with some older women perchance?
Of course it’s in our personal genes-
But some people do the cosmetic surgery routine.
For selling beauty products many factors being the spokeswomen come to mind-
A perfected spokeswomen encourages buyers to buy products of a company in particular a mentioned kind!

Love Beyonce… Julianna Margulies is one of my favorite actress. So, glad she got this. She’s one of the prettiest actresses.

The great thing about the net
is that no one really knows what you look like

Dont believe everything you read.

Some people may ‘feel more black’
but come across as more white.

I am from Brazil and I love Julianna Margulies! In fact, I am surprised no other cosmetics brand had picked her as a spokesmodel before. She is just beautiful and has a very unique look. Congratulations, Julianna!

Sherly…..bet you would be more beautiful yourself if you weren’t so bitter. My guess is you are a physically beautiful woman…..read what the others said about the other women who represent this line. It is diverse. Stop it!! Take a good look in the mirror……I’ll bet if you take a GOOD look….you’ll see a good person!

Keketso on

@ Nicky, i side with sheryl…
Eva is not dark skinned, and beyonce and made sure she has been photoshopped lighter so she does not represent the dark skin indivitual as well….
Loreal is a great product but they really need to start culturally diversifying a bit more to hit more of the minority market…

Sherly,

You need to fall in love with yourself or you will never love others. Why are you so bent on describing yourself as a very dark black woman or pointing out others blackness or lack therof…….who cares ??
Looking for pity…….. making an excuse for your separatist outlook on life…….or just too much shame built up in your life?
Whatever the cause of your envy and shame, get over it and grow up. Let others’ negative views or comments about yourself just roll off your back, all of us gals that have matured into loving women have done it and so can you.
Seek to be surrounded by those that validate and appreciate you. If this is not your in your current reality then change your life and drop those negative ‘others’ and walk away without a backwards look.
Remember that old song’I am woman, hear me roar’, well take that attitude and move into a new phase of your life, full of loving feelings towards ALL or you will remain bitter and unhappy and I’m sure you want a fulfilling life.
Go for it girl, be nice to yourself in all ways, put up with no b.s. by just walking away and surrounding yourself with love at all times. You will attract more loving folks to yourself in time and then you will see that love is the only answer for happiness……if that’s what you choose…..it’s all a choice, and it’s yours to make.
By the way, I’m someone who has walked away from those that are negative including the closest of family members and since have attracted friends and relationships that are all positive because I allow nothing else to enter my life. I just send negatives along their way with love and thinking I don’t need your negative vibes, good luck to you.
I am white, blonde and blue eyed and I see all women of any race or color as the most beautiful creatures God made. I am constantly admiring the beauty of black, indian, asian, hispanic, etc women, because I see their beauty, don’t you see it ??
You just need to see all of us as in this life experience together and embrace the love that is out there for you to claim.
Best to you, Cheri

It’s Not A Lack Of Race Of Here
By D.K. Milgrim-Heath©2010
It’s not a lack of race here-
L’Oreal is really clear.
Different races are represented-
For beauty worth’s truly complimented.
Each of us are born many a different shade-
Be happy with your birth skin born that’s made.
A child can have a skin tone so different from their parents you see.
No one has that color but a person’s still one’s blood in a family.
Because so many people can’t appreciate-
Does skin color change our souls at any rate?
Be thankful for all our blessings by whom you really are-
Just be beautiful inside and out all the way by far.
