Get Ready to ‘Play’: Justin Timberlake Fronts Givenchy’s New Scent

Courtesy Givenchy

He’s already made fans swoon as the face of Givenchy’s Play for Him fragrance–and now Justin Timberlake is taking on the ladies appearing in the new Play for Her campaign. The singer admits that being asked to front the brand’s female scent came as a shock. “I said, ‘You guys should go find a woman to help put this out,’” Timberlake tells WWD. But after hearing Givenchy’s vision for the campaign, set in a dark and dreamy Paris alongside New Moon siren Noot Seear, he was sold: “I thought, Oh that kind of makes sense.” The print ad, shot by Tom Munro, features the duo linked with a set of headphones tucked discreetly into Timberlake’s pocket, before the sparkling City of Lights. Like Play for Him, Givenchy Play for Her will be housed in a bottle that echoes a digital music player, and will come in two versions: A sparkling eau de parfum that includes notes of bergamot and white peach, and Intense, a more sensual jus of orange blossom, pink peppercorns, and sandalwood. Both will hit stores this October with prices starting at $48 for a 30 ml bottle. Tell us: Do you want to “Play” with Justin? –Jessie Goldberg

Madonna Slapped with Material Girl Lawsuit

Courtesy Macy’s

Talk about a fashion don’t! Madonna is being sued over the rights to use the “Material Girl” name for the trendy juniors clothing line that she designed with daughter Lourdes. Apparel manufacturer LA Triumph slapped the superstar with a lawsuit Thursday, claiming that it had been marketing clothes under the “Material Girl” brand since 1997. “Our client and its predecessor have been continually selling similar clothes in similar retail outlets at similar price points under their Material Girl brand since at least 1997 and Madonna and her newfound company do not have the right to trade in the same space under this brand,” said an attorney with firm One LLP, alleging that their client faces “a risk of being subsumed by Madonna’s profile, obvious worldwide notoriety” and massive marketing campaign. Madonna’s much-buzzed-about Material Girl collection, fronted by Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen, launched at Macy’s earlier this month. Madonna has not yet commented. –Gillian Koenig

Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty

It looks like The City‘s girl-next-door Whitney Port is getting ready to shed her wholesome image! The reality starlet and budding fashion designer announced today that she’s posing for racy men’s magazine, Maxim. “Ready to channel my sexy side!!” she wrote on her blog Thursday. “This is a pretty big deal for me because I’ve never done ANYTHING like this before. I’ve done my fair share of photo shoots in my career, but none of them were at the level of sexiness that Maxim is recognized for,” wrote the self-described “cutesy, girl next door type.” An image, it seems, that the reality star is excited to relinquish. “Doing this shoot will give me the opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and show people an entirely different side of me.” The City‘s celebrated good girl will join the stylish ranks of Maxim alums like Ashley Greene and Megan Fox. Blake Lively to Ben Affleck: ‘People Like You Make Me Fashionable’

Fame

After having to shoot a steamy love scene with Ben Affleck on the very first day of filming their upcoming thriller The Town, Blake Lively quickly became comfortable with her handsome costar. So comfortable in fact, that in the September issue of Interview magazine, the stylish Gossip Girl had no qualms dishing out a little fashion advice to Ben. “People like you make me fashionable, because if there is no wrong there can be no right,” the 23-year-old star said to Affleck in a playful phone interview from Paris. Putting her Fashion Week run on hold, Blake mocks the “cashmere turtlenecks” that Ben is so fond of wearing. Ben’s response to Blake’s style critique? “Oh, Jesus Christ. I don’t know what pictures you’re looking at.” And while the Oscar-winning Ben may have more experience on the red carpet than Blake, the fashion-forward Gossip Girl star has definitely solidified her place on many a Best Dressed list. Maybe Ben’s stylish wife Jennifer Garner should toss his Red Sox hats and T-shirts and plan a shopping trip for his next premiere! Check out Interviewmagazine.com for the full interview. –Jessie Goldberg
